Significant Upgrade from the Prior Version

So I have both this newest release, and the older version. The concept was great, but the old one felt too small for a 6 foot, 200 pound man. They’ve fixed that here, with a wider upper section for broader shoulders. Additionally, the overall quality has improved, with a few little details here and there that make it feel more worth the cost. If you didn’t buy this originally because you were afraid of the size, this shouldn’t be an issue. Just wish it came with a little foot stool.

Honestly not impressed

So I bought this Nemo chair and a cheaper comparable chair from Costco called The Rio hammock lounger. The cheaper Costco chair is WAYYY more comfortable. I guess expensive doesn’t always mean better. The mesh material on the Nemo is kind of rough on the skin and not very comfy. It’s too low to the ground. It feels like a confined space and is not very roomy compared to the Rio chair. The cup holder on the Nemo is in a weird spot and the thing barely swings. The only positive for me is that it packs down into a smaller bag. Not impressed unfortunately. Prefer the Rio and it’s like 3/4ths of the price. Save your money get the cheaper option.

Go-Anywhere Recliner

Hands-down, this is the most comfortable camp chair I've ever had. I like how it cradles me, rocks, and reclines. The frame is really simple, durable, and super fast to assemble or disassemble. The three poles on each side are shock corded, so I just pull them out, and collapse the poles into a bundle. The poles are big and fit well, so putting them in and out of their slots is easy. Putting the chair on the frame is a cinch. Taking it off and bundling everything in the bag took some practice, but now I can do the whole thing in a minute or two, with the bundle slipping easily into the provided semi-shaped bag. The bag itself has two types of carry handle (shoulder and hand) so it's easy to take - anywhere. I'm a short, heavy person, so I was a bit worried that I'd have trouble getting into the chair - or out of it. But there are padded bars I can hold when getting in and out. They work well for me - and for many older friends who also worried about getting in and out of low chairs. It took me a moment to figure out the recline. I was looking for straps to pull or snap. Instead, I just had to lean back to get the seat to recline! Super easy. I also removed the pillow (velcro attachment) for a better fit for me. Since it's so comfortable, and so easy to assemble, and so easy to carry - I've been using it a lot: in the yard, at the beach and even in my living room. The only thing it's missing (for me) is a footrest. I have to find a convenient bench or rock for my feet.

This is a great sturdy and comfortable chair.

I received these products for free from the REI Trailblazers sampling program in exchange for my honest review. First, a full disclosure. I am 73 years of age and I am a big fan of Nemo products. I own one of their backpacking tents and sleeping pads. I always find that they provide high quality in functionality, aesthetics, durability, and simplicity of set ups. Now for my review. This is NOT your grandparents's or parents's camp chair. It is sturdy and well built and comes in a carrying case with instructions that are simple to follow. Actually, the instructions are more for clarification because I could easily figure out how to quickly assemble the chair. The legs are durable and of heavy metal construction. They are tethered to the frame with bungie cords and the shape of the legs fit only one way to assure that they are oriented correctly. The seat snaps into two posts, suspending the seat. This allows you to shift the seat's position from upright to reclining. You can also use it like a rocking chair. The chair is extremely sturdy and maintains an upright position until you purposely lean back to a more horizontal position. I found that the chair admirably held whatever position you wanted. A few suggestions of improvement: Increase the depth of the chair by a few inches. It would add a bit more comfort. Also, the cup holders, while adequate, could be a bit deeper and wider in diameter. The chair's durability and simplicity guarantee it will last many decades. It will be a great addition to your car-camping gear.

a five-star chair

This is a five-star chair. This chair was perfect for car camping, and I've also used it to watch fireworks and a drive-in movie. I now use it daily in my yard or on my patio, and I love using it every single time. It is definitely the most comfortable camp/folding chair I have ever owned. The recline function is excellent and the design actually supports your back while you are reclined - something I appreciate so I don't end my day with a sore back. Plus, it's easy to recline: you just have to lean back. You don't have to adjust straps or lock anything, as it stays in place on its own. I love being able to swing a bit while I sit in it, and apparently my dog does too, as it's his new favorite place to lay! It is easy and fast to assemble (particularly since the poles are shock corded), and seems quite sturdy. Set up is a simple two steps: putting the shock corded poles in place and attaching the chair to the top of the poles. The small details matter. You can adjust the pillow to your preferred height, and the directionality of the velcro used to attach the pillow is correct so your hair and clothes do not get caught in it. The instructions for assembly are attached to the inside of the carrying case so you don't have to worry about losing them or keeping a loose piece of paper. The carrying case can be carried by a handle or with a longer strap to put around your shoulder, making it easy to bring anywhere. The carrying case is a good size and is a sleek shape that makes it easy to pack for any trip or to just keep in your car. The only potential drawback I can see are the cupholders. It has two cupholders attached to the seat that work nicely while you are sitting in it, but without the weight of a person sitting in the chair, the cupholders are positioned nearly horizontally. This means if you have an open container that is not heavy enough, your drink may spill on the chair hen you stand up. I haven't had a problem with this yet, but I keep it in mind when getting up and take my drink out of the cupholder if needed.

Uneven surface? No problem!

I rated this five stars, rounding up from the 4.7 that I'd give it if I could. Few things in life deserve 5 stars, and this is no different, but this is a GREAT chair. I originally purchased it for satellite-spotting, but I was recently at the Motul Petit LeMans race at Road Atlanta, where our viewing spot was from Spectator Hill, a popular area that has you sitting on the downslope of a grassy hill. I set up my Stargaze and it was like floating effortlessly above the precarious downslope. Others were using wood blocks to level the legs of their chairs while I leisurely enjoyed the races. I can't count how many people came up and said "Amazing!! Where'd you get that chair??" When I first got the chair, yes, I had difficulty getting it back in the case, but a couple of things happened. After taking it in and out a couple of times, the material in the case loosened up and it was easier. Plus, I just got used to how to do it. Now, no problem. At 8.3 lbs (weighed on my own digital scale) t's not the lightest chair in the world, but it's rock-solid, and should last for years. The case is just as solid and has a nice end loop and longitudinal strap that makes it easy to carry.

Excellent Chair 10/10 recommend

Bought this for my husband for Christmas, it’s been on his wishlist for ages. It is AMAZING! We will probably buy a second one soon for me. So comfortable, and my husband is stoked! I highly recommend. The leaning back feature that adjusts with just the weight of your body is phenomenal. You can tell this product is really well made - triple stitching on the fabric, high quality metal pieces used on contact points and the frame. The chair has great ergonomic features for lumbar support and an adjustable headrest. All around an excellent chair that will last many, many years. Worth every penny! And Merry Christmas to my sweetie, he deserves it!

the best chair out there

This chair is amazing. I was skeptical that it was too good to be true and that is probably where cost comes in. I wanted a chair that could be my one chair for all events, the beach, camping, kids sports, concerts, etc. This is it! I love the high back and recline - perfect for beach or star gazing! It packs up fairly compact and fits well in the wagon with other gear. The gear bag is nice and won't fall apart like most camp chairs. Pocket for phone - yes, pocket for water bottle or beer - yes. Easy up and easy down. Colors for everyone in the family. Stable on sand, dirt, concrete - all surfaces. I want to buy 2 more! The stitching is similar to that in a climbing harness. Also, I weigh 270lbs and this chair is very sturdy and comfortable.

Lives in My Car

I don't know what my life was before this chair. This chair is the perfect size to fit in my car trunk, and be at easy arm's reach whenever the situation may arise where I need a chair. I've used it all over this summer: book club, festivals, hanging out in the park, and on my porch. The set up and take down is very easy and straightforward. It feels very sturdy on different surfaces (dirt, grass and hard). And I feel very nestled when sitting in it. It is a little heavy to carry around but just keeping it in my trunk has been so convenient.

Expensive but worth it!

I just received my Nemo stargazer and it was worth every penny. I had this chair on my wishlist for a long time and I saw it was on sale for $175 so I finally decided to buy it. The only regret I have is not buying it sooner. My parent have the GCI rocker chairs and this is even comfier! Easy to set up, and so much fun to swing in while I read my kindle. I was worried I might be too small for this chair (I’m 5’2”) but I have no problem leaning back in this thing. My boyfriend loves it so much I’ll have to fight him for it when we go camping. Thank you Nemo 🙏
