A great cooking fly
I took a shot at this tarp as our cooking fly on our attempt at Denali. Although I was concerned about its ability to withstand the potential winds on the West Buttress, it really pulled through for our team. This tarp single-handedly boosted the morale of our expedition by providing our team a communal shelter in which to each, meet and gather during the trip. I took a beating on some windy days but we dropped the tarp overnight during some windy nights. We had one small tear (about 2 inches) early on the trip but it never grew during the rest of the expedition.
A versatile 2 person shelter
It's a comfortable 2 person shelter. It can be setup with two hiking poles lashed together. I'm using it with the HMG ultamid 4 mesh inner without floor, and a very large piece of tyvek for the floor. The footprint was not available from REI until recently. I would prefer to use the Big Agnes footprint. I wrote this while sitting in the Eno Lounger DL inside the Gold Camp 3. It rained like crazy last night, but I stayed dry. I wish REI sold the UL version of this shelter, as well as the mesh inserts. I'll probably get the Gold Camp UL5 next.
Awesome tent
Bought this tent for backpacking trips. I love the simple design and ease of it. One trip was cold and rainy but the tent remained dry. Awesome pickup.
Too small caused by the footprint of the entry way vestibule
