Useful, practical and attractive
I used the Coast EAL22 Lantern for camping. First of all the design is really cool, its not too bulky and the weight is light when carried. It reminds me of an old railroad lantern with its folding handle but with a modern day touch. The carabiners are useful when trying to hang the lantern from the top of the tent to serve as a light. It can also be easily hung on an organizer. The diffuser can easily be removed and can serve as an interior light in the tent. I also use the lamp in my gear closet and love the look and feel once it is used as a source of light to sort through gear. The light setting are simple from warm to bright to max output. Just pressing the buttons to toggle through the lights is simple, the function reminds of me of my headlamp settings. This is an amazing product and would highly recommend it. I look forward to its use on my next over-landing trip. This is my second Coast Product, my first was the XP11R flashlight. I will continue to support their amazing line of products!
Definitely lights it up!
At first I felt like this lantern was going to be a bit a bulky/big, but actually I love it! I've used it in my backyard, and I took it with me on a walk-in campsite adventure... so not backpacking (it's way to big for backpacking, imo), but not right next to the car, either. It was perfect for my night hike. I like that there's all the light options I would want: red (hiking), flashing red (emergency), warm white, and three levels of bright white. It's a *little* complex in practice to get back out of red light mode, which is the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars. Definitely has an impressive output of light, and the clips/hanging options are great. I'll be keeping it in my car, for sure!
Bright and cozy!
So thrilled to have this lantern and cannot wait to use it for upcoming camping trips (unfortunately missed camping this past summer), but! What I loved most about this lantern was during the terrible winter storms here in the CA, we were able to rely on this lantern for the power outages, feeling confident with both rechargeable batteries and having alkaline batteries as back ups. Knowing that if we were out of power, we'd be set with alkaline batteries were truly a big win. As far as light - I'm so excited to bring it camping with us because it lit up our space with ease. It's bright, feels sturdy and indestructible, and not at all heavy at all.
Fantastic Lantern!
Extremely bright light and very well made. I use this daily to walk my dog and remain visible in my neighborhood and carrying it with the handle over long distances is no problem at all. Having a lantern like this is also a must-have for disaster preparedness as it will easily light up a room on medium for many hours. It also works well for outdoor recreational use as well. I recommend getting the rechargeable lithium-ion battery for this. With the high cost of alkaline D batteries, it is a great value for money. Own and use several coast lighting products and they are all a fantastic value for the money spent because they hold well over time.
Solid coast product- heavy!
This lantern reminded me of my childhood camping trips using the green gas powered Coleman lanterns. They were heavy and so is this one! Standard lamp comes with D cell batteries, obviously that makes it incredibly heavy. Fortunately coast hooked me up with a rechargeable lithium battery and wow, what a difference! Not only did it drop from ___ to ___, it was significantly brighter. An awesome feature is the red light option. It is super bright and worked well in the tent while we were preparing to sleep. I have also used it in the backyard for pizza night and it illuminated the whole place. If you are interested in this lamp, get it, but please get the lithium battery.
Great durable emergency area light
Love this Coast Lantern with 1250 Lumens. The 5 light modes all work great from warm light to high brightness mode to the red light emergency mode. The features are great too with a folding handle, carabiner & hook, battery life indicator glows green with sufficient charge and will turn red when it’s time to change the batteries. You can also purchase a rechargeable battery which is sold separately. My purchase for this product is for power outages and emergency use.
Glad I got this before the power went out!
I purchased this item in case of emergencies in the new year. Then Texas basically lost power thanks to winter storms freezing natural gas plants, and the rest getting diverted to heat. While I only lost power for 3 nights compared to other people's full week or more, those three nights were made far more bearable with this lantern. Even on the lowest setting, it provides sufficient lighting to navigate rooms and prepare food, even in larger areas like open-floor-plan living rooms or outdoors. It did this without requiring new batteries. I went and bought another lantern for a car kit and more batteries to feed them both. Would highly recommend.
Great car camping lantern
I was excited to get the opportunity to test out the Coast lantern. As a paddler/hiker I tend to opt for more light weight lighting but I have to admit that this thing may be worth the weight for some. While I wouldn’t take this on any type of portage or hike it’s an excellent basecamp lantern. It’s extremely sturdy with a carry handle and built in beaners allowing you to hang it almost anywhere. At 1250 lumens it’s extremely bright with decent battery life. My biggest gripe is that it runs on 3 D cells instead of a built in battery. That being said, they do offer a rechargeable batter that’s absolutely worth purchasing in addition to the lamp.
Nice light
My wife and I used the light while car-camping in Death Valley NP while on a cycling outing. We used the light in North Face Wawoma tent in the early evening. Of the 3 settings, the middle setting worked best for us, giving us plenty of light. We are both of age to have cataracts so we need good lighting. The light seems durable, easy to use, portable and (probably) safer to use in the extended vestibule that is a feature of the Wawoma tent than the Coleman propane lantern we had only been using outside on a picnic table. I figured out how to remove the "polycarbonate diffuser" after the outing so hanging the lantern from the roof of the tent will need to happen on a future trip, thus the 4 (vs. 5) star rating.
Nice Lighting, Cheap Construction
I want to like this lamp. It has 5 lighting modes, a soft white reminiscent of an oil lamp and 2 brighter white options as well as a red and red flashing light mode. All of them illuminate well for their purpose and the use of D cell batteries is nice if you don't have easy access to a charger. It's excellent as a replacement for an oil lamp on a camp picnic table to illuminate a food serving setup or a game with friends. However, when its not stationary the cheap construction becomes apparent. I'd be wary of carrying this or hanging it up to illuminate my way as the diffuser is held on only by a half turn thread. Any shaking of the lamp is likely to end with the lamp falling out of the diffuser and handle on to the ground where the batteries are likely to spill out leaving you in darkness. This is made even worse in cold weather because the material shrinks and the already loose diffuser thread has even less purchase. After winter camping one night I had to hold the lamp from the bottom and not its handle to ensure it would not detach from the diffuser. Overall its a bright lamp for car camping outings where it can remain stationary, but I would look elsewhere if you need to carry or hang the lamp, especially in cold or windy weather.
