As an outdoor professional, I have used many different brands of tents and this is by far the worst one I have ever used. Design of the rain fly makes it ineffective to the point that I woke up with about an inch of water in my tent (there is not enough tension or space away for tent to actually repel water). Water got in from the walls of the tent and from the ground. Save your money and just sleep outside instead of buying this tent. Would never use this tent in the backcountry when there are no external resources to make up for the tents shortcomings.
I take this on multi-day bike rides, had it for 3 years and it's been great - I sleep without the fly as much as possible and it's secure, airy, cool, and roomy. Easy to set up even after a long day of cycling, and the freestanding design with center headroom and a slim footprint makes it easy to put up and live in anywhere - small-town parks, forests, or rocky glades. A pole snapped just a couple days ago (I use it for a week at a time about 4 times a year) and I contacted Mountainsmith and they sent another set of poles to me within a week.
I bought this last month and just got a chance to use it. It was a very good little tent. I used it for 1 person and it seems right for 2. Plenty of room for my bag and clothes in the tent with room for changing and the vestibule was nice for shoes. I used the rain fly but didn’t stake it down due to little wind at the campsite and rocky terrain making it hard to do so. The campsite was in the Olympics and it did well with a little rain storm and dew. I thought that I would prefer a side super, but this was a solid little tent.
Bought this on a whim, it was cheap and I originally only planned on using it car camping. My first time using this was during a thunderstorm in Gilford Pinchot NF and it POURED. All. Night. Long. This tent held up amazingly well. The rain fly and footprint kept me warm and dry. I liked this tent so much I took it on a backpacking trip, a little heavy, but it had more than enough space for two people and our gear. Such a good value that I do not regret one bit.
Nearly all tents are a compromise balancing size (packed and/or set up), weight, price, materials, ease of set up vs. livability, etc. This two man tent is perfect for my one person kayak camping trips. With two poles, a very quick and simple set up. Use with the rain fly in bad weather or for more privacy, or without in hot weather. Light weight and packs small to fit in my kayak with my other gear. And the price was a bargain for what you get.
I had to write a review because of how impressed I am with this tent. It was on sale for an excellent deal, so I purchased it for spring camping in SOCAL. I took it on a three-day camping trip this past weekend and was surprised with an absolute downpour and heavy winds for about 75% of the trip. I was super nervous about the tent because it was my first time using it and it was such a good deal I did not trust its ability to withstand the weather. The tent could not have been more perfect! It stayed 100% dry inside and the rainfly buckles into the tent and footprint which you can then tighten and keeps the wind from getting into the tent. There is also space for a vestibule outside the door under the rainfly which kept my shoes dry as well. I was warm and dry the whole trip, the tent was a breeze to put up and take down - I 100% recommend this purchase!
Really happy with my purchase. Tested this out a couple weeks ago with everything set up and staked down. We ended up having very high winds and the tent withstood super well. The tent cover did a surprisingly good job of keeping dust out of the tent too. Overall, super happy with the set up and was even able to pack everything up into its original bag easily. Can’t wait to bring it on some more trips
I liked the easy set up and it performed well for a weekend camping trip, BUT the front door zipper was very sticky and hard to slide. I feared it would break after 2 or 3 more camping trips. I decided to return the tent.
