Stay away from the North Face Chilkat boot

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Purchased the Chilkat women's boots for my wife a couple years ago and the rubber portion of both boots suffered from catastropic failure. The sole and leather look otherwise brand new but on both boots the rubber completely fell apart. Spoke with the warranty department and they claim nothing can be done after 1 year -- so much for North Face's lifetime warranty. I could see if they were abused and showed signs of it, but these still look brand new except for the complete failure of the rubber portion. I have been a faithful North Face user all my life and now not so sure.

SO INCREDIBLY DISAPPOINTED WITH THESE BOOTS - FOR ONE REASON

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I BOUGHT MY CHILKATS @ LEAST 2 WINTERS AGO & THEY'VE BEEN WORN VERY LITTLE, SIMPLY BECAUSE OF SLIPPERY TREAD. THESE WERE REPLACEMENTS FOR PREVIOUS CHILKATS THAT WERE OF BETTER QUALITY & LASTED QUITE WELL. BOOTS OF THIS QUALITY & PRICE SHOULD HAVE AN OBVIOUS AGGRESSIVE TREAD, NOT AS PATHETIC AS IT HAS. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED AND FRUSTRATED THAT I DID NOT RETURN THESE BOOTS IN A TIMELY MANNER. NOW I'M STUCK WITH THEM.

I would not buy this product again. poor quality

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This product fell apart at the seams after very little use. Poor quality, not enough material to stitch the uppers with the lower. Both boots defective. I will go back to Sorels

I will never buy another NF product

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought a brand new pair of boots and never got to wear them and they cracked! And they won't warranty them , since they are shoes , even though they are brand new

Great cold weather boot

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] i live in Vermont and these boots are great for walking with my dog on trails and on the road. They have good traction on everything but icy conditions; then I have other boots that have Kahtoola microspikes on them. I usually wear 6.5 to 7; tried a 7 on in a store and thought they were too big as they were very roomy in the toe but when I ordered the 6.5 on line (no 6.5 in stores around here) they were too short. Reordered the 7's and they are fine: I may add a slightly thicker footbed with more arch support as I pack them out, as I am a pronator. I am not noticing any movement d/t the roomy toe box--they have great lacing and terrific ankle support. These go almost to lower calf on me (5 feet tall). Waterproof and warm!

RUNS VERY SMALL

Runs EXTREMELY SMALL AND TIGHT!!! I am a 9.5 and had to size up to a 10 which is still very snug and uncomfortable; so much so that my toes were going numb after a few minutes of wear. I returned and am waiting for a 10.5 to see if that will fit better. I’ve never had to size up this much before in any shoe; hiking boot, running shoes, winter boots, etc.

Run seriously small

I'd read the reviews about these running small and ordered up a fully size... only to find that my toes were still jamming up against the end. Believe the word: these run absurdly small! I'd previously tried on the men's version and felt like I was walking on clouds with the interior comfort (they are definitely heavy boots). The women's version felt nothing like the men's, and I don't think it was simply because of sizing. I returned and went with a different brand of boot altogether.

Narrow heel

Narrow in the heel which for me is good but for some, not so good. Comfortable and warm. Order a size up.

Pros and cons

Pros: -Sturdy and high quality -Very comfortable cushioned insoles -Good traction (tested during and after snowstorm) -Toe box is quite roomy Cons: -Very tight around the ankles. I need to skip both of the speed hooks at the top. -Shaft is surprisingly tall - and since it's tight, you may need to spend some time to tuck the pants in. -The leather gets scratched very easily. Overall good winter boots, but may be uncomfortable if you don't have slim calves.
