can carry fattys like myself
I got these because the rental were all booked out lol it says max weight is 180 but flotation wasn’t to bad with out extenders i’m 5’9 and weight 218 plus my pack weight and extra layers, i imagine the floatation would be better in different snow conditions as well we had a lot of fresh powder overall pleased with how they worked out and how lightweight they are
Switch left-rght shoes so bindings easier to reach
Bought these snowshoes online, but the reviews checked all my boxes. So I decided to order sight unseen. And they're great--everything promised and more. It's early days but I’ve used them the past four days for short treks totaling 10 miles. Easy on/off bindings and very durable. Because I've had back fusion surgery and can't twist my lower back, i reversed the recommended "left-right" placements to I can reach the bindings releases to the inside of my stride. But the bindings look parallel, so it seems to work fine. I highly recommend these snowshoes.
Good recreational snowshoes
Had a last-minute trip and needed snowshoes as an insurance policy. These were the only ones or the best ones I could get with no notice. I carried these up on that hike in the white mountains - as it turned out, we really didn’t need them and micro spikes sufficed for that hike. Tried them out when we got eight or 9 inches of fresh snow. Only did about 3.75 miles and 1100 feet of elevation, 95% or so of that was breaking trail and bushwhacking to test out the snowshoes. They were remarkably able on the ascent. Even on fairly steep 45° angles you could feel the toe crampon dig in. They were less able heading down. Lots of slipping and sliding. Flotation was mediocre, and I’d say that my weight plus gear was about 150 or 155 pounds that day. If you’re doing some serious hiking in deep snow, tails are probably essential. As for downhills, that’s why other snowshoes with crossbar crampons across the snowshoe would likely be better. That said, these snowshoes are designed for rolling terrain not steeps.
No bells and whistles, but fabulous nonetheless
Great entry-level snowshoes for the PNW. Better at climbing steep grades than the traditional snowshow.
New design = win!
We live in Austin TX, so our natural habitat doesn't involve snow. But after rented a pair of snowshoes from REI on a trip to Santa Fe, we were hooked. So we bought a couple pairs and now plan winter trips around snowshoeing. These were bought to replace our previous MSR snowshoes whose straps cracked over time. That version did not allow for replacement of the larger toe strap, which over time the plastic became brittle and eventually cracked. Though we have yet to use them, the new toe strap system seems much more well thought out. And as a bonus, it's replaceable, which I really like on my gear. Though we will miss the heel lift our old pair had, we mostly engaged those on constant steep climbs, which we actually don't do as much as when we were younger. Plus, I think I can swap out the crampon into the old pair if necessary. Performance notes: My wife and I both like the size of these. They are not overwhelmingly big, but still provide enough float for us in all but the deepest snow. There are extenders which we haven't bought, but it's a nice option. The traction, provided by parallel rows of metal teeth, is great. It works well on deep snow, shallow snow and works really well to hold you in place when things get a little icier. These are fairly easy to get in and out of. Once the toe strap is adjusted to your size, all you need to do is secure the heel strap and you're good to go. We really look forward to using these and my wife appreciates the color upgrade from gray to green. I got the blue color and they also have a plumish purple. Overall, a really great product that's easy to use and makes winter hiking fun!
Great value
I was excited to get these for X-mas. I enjoyed them so much and thought they were such a good value that I bought a 2nd pair (for a different location). They’re sturdy, light weight and have a good “bite” into hard packed snow. I weigh 120 lbs, wear women’s size 7 or 8 boot.
Great inexpensive pair of snowshoes
So far so good, love the strap system, snowshoed a couple miles so far with no issues.
Great Choice
Great choice! I had used MSR Evo Snowshoes several years ago when I stayed at the Appalachian Mountain Club Joe Dodge Lodge near Mt Washington -they were better than the other snowshoes I had brought. So, this year I bought my own EVO’s -great fit, stayed tight on my feet and I felt confident as I hiked up and down snowy/icy slopes. Snow on!
Great!
I have zero complaints about this snowshoe. Bindings we're easy and secure. They were light and durable. Great traction on both ice and powder. We used them to summit Mt Marcy in January while carrying 45 lb packs. Loved them every step.
Super comfortable and easy to use
These snowshoes are fantastic. They’re super comfortable and allow me to maneuver well. They’re also incredibly easy to put on and take off, and my feet stay in place.
