First off 4 stars because it does not have an “audio pocket with outlet for the cord”. There’s a “phone Heater pouch” within that upper chest pocket but no outlet. Why have audio cord loops then? A guy in the lift line said he wanted this jacket but this was a deal breaker. Personally bought earbuds that have the cord connecting them together and it’s ok. Rode at bear mtn. Wore a light long sleeve base layer with the jacket when the low was 30 and high of 55. When it got warm unzipped the jacket half way. I like all the creature comforts like the asymmetrical zipper and pass holder in the sleeve arm. Construction in solid and feels good when riding.
The jacket in general looks good and nice, however mine came with manufacturing defect.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This jacket is definitely 5 star. Opening today up here in Fairbanks Alaska, 2' of powder with Temps at 10°f. I was warm , dry , and comfortable. The blue popped with the rest of my gear. thank you 686 for making another wonderful jacket!
Love the coat. Warm enough with a medium layer under for most days in the high 20 to low 30. Added a second layer in the lower 20s. Teens and lower threw on a mid layer and a warm layer and was perfectly comfy. Great job repelling water, and keeping snow out. Personally love the Vader vent. Can keep the jacket zipped all the way and helps with breath fog. You’ll still get some on the outside sometimes, but that’s with any high neck jacket. I love how the insulation keeps the jacket from feeling cold against the body. Wish it had some in the arms too. Fits a bit large like all 686.
This jacket is an excellent price! If you aren’t someone who wants 5 different jackets for every minor temperature change this is for you. The shell fabric is durable, it’s warm enough for plenty of conditions, and with the pit zips you can wear this in most early spring conditions too. I’m from VT and rode at Jay, this would be good there, now I ride Mammoth, also good for here. Very versatile. All the pockets needed, powder skirt, and you can cinch the bottom drawstring. The sleeves are on the long side (XL) but when you Velcro them up they are good for someone 6’1 and give you lots of mobility. Fits like a snowboard jacket should.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I’m 6’3”, 195lbs, athletic build, and bought these in a size Large. Materials feel premium and comfortable out of the box. No issues with the zipper. Have not tested them snowboarding yet but the jacket is warm without being too heavy. The sleeves are a bit long but the wrist guards keep them from going over your hand. The chest area provides enough space for layering without being too roomy. I wish there was an internal zip pocket, but aside from that it’s pretty much perfect. If you’re in between sizes, going for the smaller size will make the jacket fit more snug, while going for the larger size will give you a more relaxed fit.
I’m a large in athletic cut apparel and a medium when the sizing gets generous. I ordered this jacket in large and it is going back. The overall volume of the shoulder/chest cavity and the length of the jacket are larger than expected but workable. Just a bit long and baggy but not overly so. The length of the arms however is comical. I’m 6’2 with a 6,4” wingspan and my fingers tips are nearly hidden when I rest my arms to my side. Look, feel, and sense of craftsmanship are all there for me. If you’re built like Anthony Edwards then try a large. Otherwise go medium.
Just bought this jacket and love it. I went skiing this past weekend on a pretty warm day, 40-50 degrees. Just a t shirt and the jacket kept me perfectly comfortable, so it’s not too warm on its own. And I fell in the slushy snow many times and it kept me dry all day! Seems to run pretty big, I’m 6’2” 230lbs and it has long sleeves and lots of room for layering. That’s what I was looking for so no complaints from me. Definitely happy with my purchase.
This coat is an excellent value and packed with useful features. The cuffs with thumb loops work with gauntlet or regular style gloves which is a bit unusual. I like the offset zipper and the pit zips have mesh to keep snow out. The sizing is pretty accurate, maybe a little on the big side. The hood is also great. The front zip was a little sticky which could lead to issues until broken in.
This is the second time I’ve purchased this jacket. 1st one lasted 6+ seasons with 60 or more days per year of abuse. Very comfortable, extremely warm when needed yet easy to vent on warmer days. 4 fellow riders have purchased when they notice how well it works and survived all the seasons i’ve used it. Between 3 friends and over 400 days of use. I recommend giving the jacket a try.
