Got these to replace a pair of 5 year old base layer bottoms, wanted to try something new. They’re tighter than your usual long johns (which I’m okay with) but very thin fabric, more like tights which I thought would be fine. Warm enough as a base layer on a 5 degree day sledding but on the first time worn, I got a “run” in the fabric as you would with a pair of tights. I do not think these are high quality, not worth the money and not really a base layer but definitely not tights either. I am considering trying to return them (but now with the run they can’t be resold and that’s a lot to just “throw away” — might just wear them into the ground as it probably won’t take long for them to become unusable anyway)
Though I liked the fit on these right away, I found that they are scratchy on the skin after wearing for more than a few hours. I wanted to really like them but this isn't a great attribute to a base layer!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I used this tights as a first layer of clothing. Its perfect. Very comfortable under my pants and definitely keep my legs warm
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was trying to replace my old long johns from a number of years ago made by North face. My older ones are thin as silk but toasty warm and stretch in all directions like a second skin. The material on these newer Summit Series is thicker with little stretch (not lie flat under my shirt) and not what I would consider soft as the material is like a woven mesh. Sorry, but I sent back and will just replace the elastic waist in my old ones. Maybe if these were the first I ever had, I would feel differently.
Warm but itchy at the waistband. Whatever is used for the waist stitching is so so so spikey and irritating to skin
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The first time I wore these (for a very light workout), the threading on the top of the leggings starting ripping and fraying. Now I have streaks starting at the top seam and going down into the crotch area/legs. The material is obviously very poor - the leggings fit me perfectly, and I didn't do anything to warrant the tears. I really love the feel of the leggings; they are very comfortable, so I was very disappointed that they are not holding up during activity.
Bought these as a light base layer for back country skiing. Perfect- until the elastic around the waistband started to fray, making them itchy and uncomfortable. Unlike my other TNF gear, this piece didn’t make it 2 years. Great while they lasted, but disappointed in quality.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Have not worn these for skiing yet but when I tried them on, I wish they had just alittle more Lycra to give alittle more stretch I think I won't notice once I start to move in them but that was my initial thought.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Pros:Comfortable and stylish. Cons:Very thin and transparent material. Designed to wear under clothing or around house. Not your typical tights, wouldn't purchase again , but it I'll find a use for them.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Really comfortable and true to size definitely need to wear under insulated pants not a shell for skiing could also work under jeans, dress pants etc for cold weather but not super warm.
