Arcteryx sizing has gone absolutely crazy
What on earth is going on in the Arcteryx sizing this year? These are big enough for me and my wife to fit in simultaneously! I've a 32"/82cm waist. I'm 173cm tall. These are a medium!?!?! Literally clown pants. Photo has my arm inside the pants, and I could have fit the other one in too if it wasn't holding the camera. Returned immediately. I'll leave this review up for a bit to caution people who are trying to pick a size. Quality seemed fine. (Meanwhile I can't button up the 'small' Rush or Sabre non-bib pants as my belly's too big. Though last year that size fit perfectly. Just utterly inconsistent)
Sabre Bib is a must!
A no brainer when packing for a multi purpose ski trip! Performs well while touring in the back county and keeps you feeling warm and insulated with the proper base layers while at the resort! A favorite of mine!
Looks nice, does not last, and warranty is useless
The seam failed in less than 30 days of use despite following care and handling instructions. The warranty somehow deemed that it was not covered because of faulty handling causing delamination - despite low days of use and following care and handling instructions. The warranty process and quality has degraded SIGNIFICANTLY in the past 3-5 years and they no longer stand behind their product - buyer beware
Poor durability
For the price you’d expect something durable. I have worn this 6 times in a resort setting and already have 2 tears over 1 inch I’ve had to patch. Compare that to a lesser brand that made it 2 years with no tears. Incredibly disappointing given the premium you’d expect.
Disappointing bib that ripped after 5th use skiing
Unfortunately these pants are not durable. After about 5 uses from a rather low key, non-aggressive skier, the pants have already torn/ripped which is not covered under the warranty. This is unfortunately quite far from what I would expect for the quality/price of these pants. The unfortunate and challenging reality for Arcteryx is that there is an expectation of higher quality for the price point, however, in practice, Arcteryx will need to stand behind products that tear/rip that easily under their warranty, otherwise buyers will start to consider alternative brands.
Waterproof? Not My Pair
I’ve been a dedicated Arc’teryx customer for years, and I’ve come to trust their products to perform in the worst weather, unfortunately these Sabre Bib pants were a huge let down. While skiing in Revelstoke in –4°C and heavy snowfall, the pants immediately began pooling snow and wetting out. Instead of shedding precipitation, or “beading off”, the fabric seemed to absorb it almost instantly. They’d dry a bit while riding, but on the chair my base layers started getting wet from how much moisture the pants were taking on. I’m aware the newer ePE membranes depend heavily on proper DWR, and it’s possible my pair didn’t receive a good treatment at the factory. Still, for a premium product at this price point, and from a brand that has consistently performed for me, having them fail right out of the box was a huge miss, especially since my matching Sabre SV jacket performed perfectly in the same conditions and no one else in my party was “wetting out”. Whether this was a one-off defect or a larger issue, I can only say that these bibs did not behave like waterproof (or even reliably water-resistant) pants. As much as I wanted to love them, I can’t recommend these to anyone who expect any waterproofing protection on the mountain. After just one use, I’ve lost confidence in wearing them again, which is something I never expected to say about Arc’teryx.
Great Bibs
Have these bibs and they work great. I paired them with the Sabre jacket and couldn’t be happier. It is burley and beads water well. The bibs are snug but not tight. Face fabric feels super nice.
Major Color Flaw!
I purchased the Sabre pants in Carob / Black / Dynasty together with the matching Sabre SV jacket, in store. Once seen in normal lighting, the color mismatch is obvious. The pants lean more red, while the jacket leans greener, despite both being labeled the same colorway and constructed from the same fabric. The dressing room lighting was backlit and I was primarily evaluating fit. I also did not expect something like this to occur with a coordinated set from a premium brand. Unfortunately, I am now heading into a ski trip and will not be able to return or exchange the pieces. For a premium kit at this price point, this appears to be a production or color matching failure rather than a minor variation. The pants themselves perform well, but the lack of color consistency undermines the experience of wearing the set together.
It's worth it
I put these through the wringer wearing these to work every day as a snowcat operator and daily skiing/snowboarding. They held up with no rips or damage, even moving around sharp objects or tree snags. The waterproofing ability is outstanding after multiple washes, not needing to add a water repellent. The fit is spot on. Size M. 5'11, 185. Performance fit around chest and thigh with the perfect amount of room. Loose in the back and lower legs, but it's perfect being a bib and having no stretch to speak of. Sore notes, but still deserving 5 stars: the gaiters don't work for regular winter boots, but are perfect for ski/snowboard boots. If you get automotive fluids on them, they probably will not wash out, but the black bibs don't show. Kind of hard to zip shut, but I have a long standing shoulder problem. I expect about 2 more seasons of abuse out of these. It's worth the price for what's on the market today.
Staying dry
I've only used it once so far but it was a classic wet snow day. The bibs kept me dry the whole day which is really it's #1 job. I would love if the top pocket was a bigger. I never noticed it the whole day skiing which is a sign of good design. I would have bought a Short inseam if they offered it in the 2025 version but the regular was fine over ski boots.
