Surprisingly comfortable
I was a little apprehensive with how thin these appear as well as their wider set foot. Once on, they take maybe 20-minutes to break in and get used to. They are the most comfortable pair of boots I’ve ever worn! They are thin enough to wear all day at work but thick enough to keep your feet warm. This is my first pair of wide toe shoes and I don’t think I can go back. I’ve worn them to ski hills, to work, and my walks around town for errands. I can’t stress enough how comfortable these boots are for the performance they bring as well. Only downside: with how thin they are, they can be a bit difficult to put on. After a few weeks I’ve gotten into a groove but there was a learning curve for sure.
Lightest and Most Attractive Boots
These are the most stylish and nice looking snow boots I've ever tried. They fit really well on my feet and don't have a lot of unneeded material on them. They are incredibly light and it doesn't really feel like you're wearing boots. When I was walking around in them, I didn't feel like I was trudging through mud like I sometimes do in snow boots. And even though they are so light, my feet never got cold. I was able to be outside for an extended period of time without worrying about going inside to warm up my toes. I think these would work very well for shorter winter hikes, but maybe not on extremely lengthy hikes or in very deep snow.
Cute low pro boots
I wore these boots out on a walk with merino wool socks and they performed well. It was 11 degrees Fahrenheit with a -5 degree wind chill and after walking for 15 minutes, my feet were warmer than when I started. They had good grip on uneven ground and light snow. They did alright on ice; about as good as a standard winter boot. What impressed me the most was the repelling coating on the fabric. I found some running water with mud and walked through it. Not only did my feet remain dry, the fabric repelled the mud enough that they were almost as clean as when I started after three steps in the snow. My feet were more tired than normal, but according to the paper in the shoebox, this is to be expected when you're not used to the "barefoot" shoes. The sole is thin and flexible, but I never felt any cold leaching through and my feet were protected. I wore these the next day running errands with thick cotton socks and my feet did not get too hot.
Pleasantly surprised, run a tad small
I want to say up front that these are shoes I would not have sought out to be my comfy warm winter shoes. I usually wear well supported shoes with structure, insulation and a big tread for my winter shoes. That being said, I was offered an opportunity to try them for free and I was game to do that. I have been pleasantly surprised by every part of the shoe. Let's start with how they look: The faux fur on the top is so fuzzy and soft. I like how they look athletic but also stylish. These look like they should be wandering around a winter scene but many of those kinds of shoes are not actually warm. These are warm. I have been wearing them as my outside-the-house shoe, and as someone who lives in the Colorado Foothills the outside-the-house shoe needs to have warmth and tread and be easy to slip on and off for various errands outside the house in the winter. I've gone on long neighborhood walks with these and worn them for several hours in the snow and my feet have been perfectly warm - not too hot, not sweaty. This actually says a lot about the shoe considering I was wearing very thin socks. They feel natural to walk around in and are very lightweight unlike most winter type shoes. I also did like how you can feel the ground below your feet which is something that most winter shoes also don't offer. The drawback for me was that these shoes do run tad small. I am a solid size 10 or 41 in European shoes and the label says they are a 10, but also state 40.5 in Euro shoes and that .5 does make a difference. Because these are so warm and I don't need to wear thick socks they do fit, but I could not wear thicker socks with them. The tread on these is adequate for what I need them for. I wouldn't go on an icy hike with them though. They are more appropriate for packed powder and cold roads. These shoes were freeing to my feet in the winter time which I thought was refreshing compared to the big clunky boots that I would normally be wearing. I intend to use these up and will consider purchasing a new pair once these are worn out. After several weeks wearing them I have no complaints about how they are wearing. The stitching is solid And I don't anticipate them falling apart anytime soon.
Not for me, maybe for you
Hard pass for me. Regardless of finding them incredibly ugly, the construction seemed solidbfor the right person. The flat/inverted nature of the boot was not ideal or comfortable. The shaft of the boot bended super awkwardly to accommodate for the flat nature of the sole. They are soft and cozy, but they are a super hard pass for me.
The snow boots I have been waiting for
I have been wanting a pair and I finally got one. They are very lightweight, warm, comfortable (wide toe box and zero drop), and durable (my husband has had a pair for a few years now). They aren’t bulky like previous snow boots I have had, they fit lore like a running shoe.
Comfy!
I received these boots as a sample in exchange for an honest review. I live in Minnesota and have tried these out in a wide range of conditions so far. These have quickly become a go-to for dog walking, errands around town, and hikes in the woods. Fit/comfort: Based on availability, I went up a half size from my usual 9.5, and I’m really happy with the fit and comfort. They’re roomy enough to wear thick warm socks, but not sloppy. I’d only suggest sizing up if you’re planning to wear these with big thick socks. I’d really call these true to size. For reference, my feet are medium-wide, and super blister-prone, and I have a bunion, but no other orthopedic concerns. There was really no break-in period with these - they were comfortable out of the box. If you’re curious about minimalist footwear (like I was), these might be a good place to start. These are definitely very flexible and not overly structured. It’s hard to describe, but they just feel good on my feet. Performance: I like the lacing system - it’s snug but not restrictive, and the hooks at the top make it an easy on/off. The sole is nicely grippy. These have given me plenty of traction on packed snow and occasional slick spots on the sidewalks. For very icy conditions I’ll still add a traction cleat. I also wore these on an unexpectedly snowy back country hike and felt totally comfy and secure in my footing, and the tongue gusset kept snow and debris out. I was a little unsure about wearing light colored boots, but these have really shrugged off all of the dirt and grit so far. Warmth: Given their light weight, these are fairly warm boots. I’ve been wearing them in rainy, snowy, chilly weather with medium weight or heavyweight socks, and my feet have been dry and warm. With several inches of powdery snow on the ground, these were perfect for an active outdoor day. The waterproofing held up without any issues, and the furry lining at the top kept me from getting snow down the top of the boots. When temps get very cold, or for very deep snow, I’ll probably still go for a bigger insulated pair of snow boots, but until then these are excellent. Overall: The alpine boots have been super comfortable and have performed really well. These are a new favorite for slushy or snowy conditions.
I LOVE this brand!
I received these products for free from the REI Trailblazers sampling program in exchange for my honest review. These shoes are super cute, but unfortunately didn’t fit me - which is why I don’t have a picture of me using them. They are really nice quality. I love Xero shoes, so I was so excited to receive these. I love that they are a little more sturdy than other Xero shoes, as I believe it would make them wonderful winter hiking boots. My advice is to get your normal size, my feet just changed after having a baby and I’m still figuring it out 😅
Wearing daily
So comfortable, and warm. Wore to eastern washington in just freezing temps and felt great. Got on sale but I think but would not be mad if I paid full price. I find myself reaching for them every day before going out. My other shoes are not getting my attention. Love this shoe. I got a half to full size larger to accommodate wearing super thick socks, or double socks. The extra wiggle room for my toes feels good, but the shoes does not feel loose. Easy to wear and get on, easy to take off. Could they be a bit more stylish? Sure. But I don't really give a hoot!
sporty snow
These boots are a good mix between sporty and functional. They look like a pair of tennis shoes but are boots. So far I have worn them for walks on pavement in the snow/ice. They had average grip in the snow. They are extremely lightweight. One thing I generally dislike about snow boots is how heavy they are that it makes it annoying to drive in boots - but I do not have that problem with these boots. However, I also felt that they became a little uncomfortable on my feet with the longer walks because there was not a lot of foam. I also wonder how warm they will be when it gets below zero - has not been that cold yet this season. They are plenty warm in 20 degree weather wearing the boots with wool socks. I also love the wide toe box, but I think they run large overall. I wear anywhere from size 6-7 in other types of shoes and felt the size 7 in these boots were a little too big. Overall, I will wear these boots for neighborhood walks and running errands in the winter.
