Soft and Cozy!
Absolutely love the soft and cozy fabric. The sleeves are the perfect fit, neither too short nor too long. When zipped all the way up, it hugs the body just the right amount and is surprisingly quite warm.
Bulkier and less breathable than previous Kyanites
This is at least the 6th Kyanite hoodie I’ve bought since 2018, and I hate to have to admit that I’m really disappointed with the changes in quality and design of this jacket. I only ever hang-dry my Arc’teryx products, haven’t even taken this one out in nature yet, and even so, the new kyanite material seems far more prone to pilling than the older ones. The existing fit was already modern and functional, the new changes only add undesirable and unnecessary bulk to the midsection both when upright and while seated-especially while seated. It’s less breathable than it used to be, as well. I frequently overheat in this one even when indoors, but not in the older kyanite hoodies. The entire zipper area of the new ones is SO stiff now, spanning several inches to each side, and this is a full zip jacket with zip side pockets-so that’s a lot of unnecessary poofing as a result! The sizing is strange too. At 5’4 and 145 muscular lbs I normally wear a size 8, or a large in Kyanite hoodies, to be able to layer. A large in this new style is way too big for me, but a medium doesn’t accommodate my chest and shoulder area at all. I really wanted to love this one, but I’m really just grateful I still have the old ones. I feel the old quality is what enabled this item to fetch the money it does, and if you lose that quality, then it has lost much of its value and desirability for me.
shorter than previous versions / thick zipper
Love the feel and quality. Dislike the shorter length than the previous versions. I pray this crop style dies soon. It's just not functional. I at least like a hoody to cover my hips.. The arms sleeves are shorter which is a plus more me since I'm short but taller girls beware.. Their kyanite jacket is even shorter. I'm 5'2 124 lbs and the medium is really too small. The thicker zipper makes the jacket bow out like a man's fit. The model wearing the black color looks like the hoody is long but it barely hits my hip bone. I guess it depends on your sport but if a jacket covers my hips while hiking I'll feel warmer. .
Hello, thank you for sharing your thoughts on the Kyanite Hoody. We're glad you appreciate the feel and quality but understand your concerns about the shorter length and fit. The design aims to balance mobility and warmth for active use, but we understand that coverage preferences vary, especially for activities like hiking. Your feedback on the fit, zipper, and overall functionality is valuable and will be shared with our team. If you’re looking for a longer option, we’d be happy to help you explore other styles or provide guidance on sizing to find the perfect fit for your needs!
Nice fleece but style didn’t work for me
I have a kyanite hoody that’s several years old. It’s a medium and a bit big and I would say I almost always end up in a size small in jackets and pullovers in Arc’Teryx so I decided to order a small this time around. It did fit but they have changed the pockets so the zipper is more rigid. I have bigger boobs (34DD). The rigidity of the material around the zipper basically wouldn’t allow it to follow the curve of my body and it essentially caused the fabric to pucker out below my chest in a strange and unflattering way. Sizing up *might* have solved that problem but I think it would then be too big. The green is gorgeous in person and the fleece interior was super soft. The current version just didn’t quite work for my body.
Hello there, thank you for your detailed review! We're sorry to hear that the updated Kyanite Hoody didn't quite work for you this time. It's great to know you loved the green colour and found the fleece interior soft, but we understand the issue with the zipper rigidity affecting the fit around the chest area. Your feedback is invaluable, and we’ll make sure to share it with our design team.
Poor Quality Material Compared to Older Versions
I have been a huge fan of Arc'teryx gear, and have a few of these hoodies -- they are a wardrobe staple for me during the fall, winter and spring. The ones that I have are a few years old an have held up well but I wanted to purchase another since I literally have one on almost every day. So the pros - 1) I love the longer sleeves and the thumb keyholes, even though I didn't think I'd use this feature much; 2) LOVE the zippered pockets, these are fantastic, and they can hold a lot; be careful, though, because the netting on the backside of the pockets can tear (not too easily, but still - not great - I think my car keys were a culprit); 3) great weight, not too light nor too heavy. The reason I'm knocking off an additional two stars is this newest version is NOT STURDY. It is definitely not going to wear well long term. I've had it for two months now, have worn it several times a week, washed it a few times and the material on this new version PILLS LIKE CRAZY. The material is too soft. The pilling is ugly, and it's clear that this jacket will not wear well in the long term. I'm bummed, going to return and hoping that next year's version will be improved.
great product but looked used
Received the jacket in a damaged box with no protective bag. Sleeve rolled up on one arm and very wrinkled.
The ideal hoody!
The Kyanite hoody has been my favorite addition to my Fall wardrobe. This hoody is incredibly soft, light and absolutely warm. I wear it as a base layer under many Arc shells, it just pairs well. When outdoor bouldering during chilly Fall/Winter months or camping days/evenings year round I find it most useful but the Kyanite hoody also gets frequent wear not just for outdoor recreation. I'm looking to buy multiple colors!
Great hoody to climb in
Excellent fit and quality. Has lasted several years worn mostly while out climbing and the fabric and seams still look pretty new! Very happy with this purchase and would buy again. lt's a very lightweight fleece layer, perfect for layering when you need something more than a sun hoody or wind breaker, but don't yet need a jacket. Great as a backup layer for chilly multipich and very comfortable to climb in.
Not the same
Received my 3rd Kyanite hoody for Xmas. I bought my first one in 2019 to wear while hiking the Camino de Santiago. I fell in love with this jacket and bought an additional one a few years ago. Both super high quality, comfortable and with a perfect hood. The one I just received seems much thinner and not as high quality. I wear the original two constantly, but not thrilled with the new one.
Hi there. Thanks for sharing your feedback on the Kyanite Hoody. We are sorry to hear that you are disappointed with the current version and we will make sure to pass your comments to our team.
I don't like fleece, and I love this fleece
I wore this as my middle layer all ski season last year and it changed my layering system for cool days (0 to -20C or so). I normally wear a Proton Lightweight or similar for bc skiing, but find the Kyanite to be a really nice alternative for those warmer winter temps with just a synthetic T underneath. Fit is also really nice and it's super comfy and soft.
