HOKA's no hokum
So far, so great. Bought for mi amore' for some trails we'll be hitting shortly. Good build, excellent stability, low-cutout for an injured ankle, great tread. How they'll hold up on the wet muddy rooted & rocky trails we're about to encounter on the Waimea canyon and Kalalau trail systems is yet to be seen, but mebbe we report back, ey?

Beware-deceptively, small toebox defective tread
I wanted to love these. They’re tight on my toes despite their wide appearance. I went backpacking with them and not only did it thrash my toes, but the bottom tread started peeling by the end of the trip. The bottom tread is now completely detached and flaps around when I walk. I can’t believe I did not send these back to the manufacturer. My $200 loss. These are junk. I have since found other hocus that I find more acceptable but these must have been defective from the start.

Short laces, long toe.

I picked these up on clearance in store. I usually wear a 9 or 9 1/2 women’s. I wore these on a couple long dog walks and felt like I was wearing skis. My fault it looks like 9 in Hoka is a Euro 41.3. Typically a women’s 9 is about a euro 40 to 40.5. I may try these down a half size because they are comfortable. These like all Hoka s I’ve worn have really short laces. These being a unique color makes them hard to replace with longer ones. Why Hoka can we not have enough lace to actually tie?

Beautiful shoe but way too narrow for a normal siz

I really wanted to love this shoe because it's a beautifully designed shoe and love all of its features. I was going to use these primarily for more aggressive hikes. The toe box however is way too narrow and my pinky on my right foot gets squished. I wore them around the house for a day and started getting a blister on my toe. I will be returning these unfortunately. I'm usually a size regular in terms of shoe width and previously wore the Torrent 2 (which I loved!) with no problem. So not sure if this shoe is more narrow than the average… Hope they come out with a wide version!!Hi

I like these shoes!

I recently got back into trail running, and after trying numerous other shoes (Speed Goat 6, Brooks Caldera, Brooks Cascadia, Nike Zegama), these Hoka Mafate Speed 4's are by far my favorite! They feel light and nimble on my feet, have a good amount of cushion, and still feel bouncy at the end of a 10+ mile run. My only caution is that they do tend to run long. I normally wear a 10, and should have gotten these in a 9.5. The tread is holding up really well, and I feel stable and secure running on rocky and muddy trails in these. Like these shoes alot!!

The perfect trail running/rugged hiking shoe

The perfect trail running and rugged hiking shoe! They're incredibly responsive and give you that extra spring in your step. I just finished an 11-mile hike, and my feet feel great. Before this, I used the Speedgoat 5—initially comfortable, but over time they left my feet miserable and caused back and knee pain. The Mafate, on the other hand, is an absolute dream. Every week, I look forward to my next hike because I know I will not be sore. I can’t recommend them enough!

favorite trail runners!

I really like these trail runners! They are less cushioned than the Speedgoats, but I find them more comfortable, even for long runs (>20 miles). They are also very grippy, and good on even super techy, rocky terrain.

LOVE

I purchased these 6+ months ago and have absolutely loved running trails in these! I try to minimize pavement time just because I want them to last as long as possible. Excellent grip on varied trail surfaces—sand, rock, grass, ice, these have kept me feeling stable and in control.

pretty good

I got these shoes to start training for a downhill trail 10k. I have never had to break in hokas before… but these definitely need to broken in for me. Good cushion and support. Maybe a little too much arch support for my feet.

Great trail shoe for wider feet

Very comfortable trail shoe. I had to return it unfortunately, as it is wider as the Speedgoat in the toe box, and did not suit my narrow foot.
