I have been through several incarnations of this jacket and this by far is the best fit for me. First, some deets: I am 5'9" tall, 140 lbs, slim but hourglass figure (broad shoulders, average chest, womanly hips). Short torso, long but normal-length arms for my build. The 2nd to last incarnation of this jacket (mine was 2009), the one with the upside down "u" shaped baffles, was a snug fit. A size small in that version was out of the question, and the medium was a little tight in the underarm area. The length was also cut very short. If I bent over I could feel a breeze coming up my back. That said, the vest in this version, size medium, works great for me and is part of my Fall/Spring wardrobe. No worry of armpit tightness, and length is not a concern as it functions as part of a layering system. The previous version of this jacket was very unattractive on me. While it had a little bit more length which was appreciated, it was square and boxy. The small was a little too small and the medium was horribly big in the chest, hips, waist. I had the 2020 version of this jacket and hated it. It rarely saw the light of day. This brings me to the new 2022 version. I can fit into both the small and the medium. The small is a comfortably snug fit. For reference, it fits me exactly like the model on Patagonia's website, a woman of 5'9" wearing a size small. I ended up buying the size medium to have the option of wearing thick layers beneath it. Be forwarned, the 2022 version is narrower in the hips. The size small and medium are very close in fit around the hips. Where the last version was very boxy and I would need to cinch the bottom to avoid air flowing in, with this version I do not. My hips are by no means narrow, but this cut might not work for women with more ample hip assets. The sleeve length is no different than the last model. Yes, the sleeves are long, but they are not overly, ridiculously long as some reviewers have complained. One of the reasons I buy Patagonia uppers is because they consistently fit my tall-lady arm length. The cut of this new version is very thoughtful and beautifully flattering. The side baffles wrap around and extend into the back panel of the jacket, giving a more hourglass appearance. The shoulder seams cut in toward the collarbones and out at the hips, lending to a more feminine silhouette. The length feels a hair longer than the last version when I pull the jacket fully down around my hips, but I have found that I have the ability to cinch up the bottom hem, creating a more modern, sporty look. When the hem is cinched, the jacket still cuts in at the waist which is lovely! If I did that with the last version of this jacket I ended up looking like a marshmallow. Patagonia has increased the down fill with this new version and the material is supposed to be more durable, which are added bonuses. I’m extremely satisfied. I never thought I would ever be able to truly rock the Patagonia down sweater, but with this version I’m feeling pretty good about it.

Men’s and Women’s not created equal

I did loads of research before thinking I had finally made the right choice with this women’s jacket, but found some incredibly unfortunate design flaws once I had it in hand. As stated by many others this jacket is too tight in the hips, seeming to taper more like a men’s than women’s cut, and sizing up results in torso and arms being far too long and shoulders being too roomy. However I was most disappointed to find that there were differences between the men’s and women’s jackets beyond just the cut and sizing. The women's version of this jacket opted for tiny fragile zipper pulls&crowns for the hand pockets and left an unclosed corner in what some jackets call the internal “slip” or “stash” pockets meaning anything small is able to fall out, but on the men’s version Patagonia put more standard, robust zipper pulls&crowns on the hand pockets and closed all corners of this interior bonus space making it much more useful. I would love to know why these shortcomings exist in one but not the other, but until then I won’t buy or recommend this women’s jacket and this isn’t the first time I’ve run in to disparities in Patagonias men’s and women’s products which is incredibly unfortunate.

Hips still too tight.

I still have my OG down sweater from about 20 years ago. XS, stopped at the high waist and fit perfectly. I am 5'2" 125lbs with hips. The revamp of this jacket about 5 years ago was a major fail due to the lengthening of the hip area without making the hip area larger on the jacket. Fits everywhere BUT the hips. I still have that version but it is really annoying bc it bunches up around the waist due to being too tight in the hips. So why make it longer if it is going to ride up anyway. Seems this newer version has the same issue, so I sized up to a small and now the arms are too long... I can't win with this brand anymore. Bought an Arc'teryx instead.

5’2, 112lb 32ddd size 2 pants and this version fits great in a size small. Not figure flattering at all but with a petite curvy build, no puffy is flattering on me. Great for warmth and layering while doing all the fun things outside this winter. Sleeves are good for me, not overly long but long enough that I can cover my hands when putting in the pockets. This is my 3rd down hoody in the past 10 years, I have a 2020 in bright orange that I like for visibility when hiking, a navy blue 2014ish in an xs which I wear with thinner layers and now this new version in black for an every day jacket on colder days.

disappointing down sweater hoodie

I’m pretty bummed that this jacket barely lasted a season and a half for the price. If it gets even close to something it’s snags so easy I had two patches already placed on it and the third one was the final straw. It’s so delicate and tears ridiculously easy and I’ve only worn it. Backpacking a few times in snow hiking. Before the snags, it would just constantly shed feathers out through the seems. Unfortunately I will not be buying another one because it seems like the quality has gone downhill over the past few years. Hoping my new Cotopaxi holds up to the challenge.

Not for me.

I have a 5 year year old Patagonia jacket without the hood, so I really wanted this jacket to work. I initally purchased my normal size, medium, and it too was too tight near my hips. Purchased the jacket in size large, and its too long everywhere .

Boxy fit

Disappointed in the fit of this jacket. I agree with other reviewers that mention how oddly tight it is at your hips. It’s very boxy, as if it was made for a man’s body. The medium felt more comfortable, but the shoulders looked too big on me, so I went with the small, which fit great in the shoulders and arms. However, I ended up returning due to it feeling too short and tight on my hips. For reference, I am 5’6”, 130 lbs, slender build. I spent a little more and got an arc’teryx jacket and am super happy with it.

Fit and color are off

Upsized to accommodate layers. The fit was off (even accounting for upsizing). Fit close to the hips, then had this weird flare out at the hem. I adjusted the cord to stop the hem flare out, but that just morphed into other weirdness. Plus, the color was off. Ordered blue but it looked more greenish. It also had a turquoise lining that was way too much for me. Just a lot going on with this jacket.

Great design that looks and fits great

Awesome light and warm jacket - this design is a bit larger than some of the Patagonia stuff which is great so you can wear a sweater etc underneath. It’s not my warmest jacket but it’s perfect for days that are sunny etc… I love the lightness and can actually tie it around waist if it gets warm. Very good pockets and zippers love this jacket soooooo much!
