33 years of Rollerblading

This is my first 3-wheel skate since my 1989 Rollerblade BladeRunners with the full-lace boots. I have been skating for 33 years, and this is the most comfortable boot I ever wore. The buckles offer multiple levels of adjustment on foot and ankle. The three 110mm diameter wheels result in a longer wheelbase than my previous 2012 Rollerblade Twister 80s with 4 wheels at 80mm diameter, so these skates feel faster and more stable but less agile than my 4-wheel skates. My complaints are that there is no built-in rocker on these skates, so it takes several miles before the front wheels wear to facilitate quick pivots. Also, the angle of the chassis on this skate keeps the wheels more vertical than I prefer through my stride; I prefer the chassis to allow the wheels to angle inward through my stride for more stability when snowplow-stopping or fending off a D-man in street hockey. The chassis is adjustable in terms of position on the boot, but the angle of the chassis is fixed. Nevertheless, I quickly adapted to this skate and alternate between this and my 4-wheel Rollerblade Twister 80s throughout the week. I prefer the 3-wheel RB 110 for commuting and running errands around town (due to stability and speed from longer wheelbase), and I prefer the 4-wheel Twister 80s for street hockey (more agility and sharper turns from shorter wheelbase). One last item to note is that the larger diameter of the wheels on the RB 110 means the wheels are spaced farther apart than are the wheels of a 4-wheel skate, which results in an increased sense of snagging on small bumps such as when rolling up a sidewalk ramp or driveway. I was expecting the smaller approach angle of the larger diameter wheels would result in a smoother ride, but the larger gap between them compared to the 4-wheel skates makes for a choppy feeling over rough terrain.

There seems to be a breaking in period on the ankle bones. I am proud to say I haven’t killed myself yet.
