Measurements are stated in inches unless otherwise indicated. Size chart values represent body measurements, not garment measurements. Some women's pants are available in petite and tall sizes. Typically petite sizes fit women 4'11" to 5'3". Regular sizes fit women 5'4" to 5'8". Tall sizes fit women 5'9" to 5'11".
PETITE: Generally, as compared to regular sizes, petite sizes are 2.5 inches shorter in inseam, 1 inch shorter in body length, 1.25 inches shorter in sleeve length and ¾ inch shorter in total rise.
TALL: tall sizes are 3 inches longer in inseam, 2 inches longer in body length, 2.5 inches longer in sleeve length and 1.25 inches longer in total rise.
Capri or cropped pants have an intentionally shorter inseam—reference the technical specs instead of this chart.
Inseam is measured to the floor.

I tested out these tights numerous times and found them to be very comfortable. I tested out a size in 1x and the fit was perfect. They are very light weight, thin and got the color sea spray heather. Since the weather is very hot in humid in San Antonio, I went on numerous walks in these tights and the synthetic base wicks sweat very useful. The material is very soft, comfortable, and does not cause any chafing. I would highly recommend these tights. I can wait to continue testing them out in my outdoor winter adventures.
I wear my old REI base layer tights all winter long and wanted to buy a few new pair before the old ones wear out. Wow, was I disappointed! The colors are great, but the fabric is not nearly as soft and stretchy as the old fabric. And the cut of the new ones is completely different and inferior in many ways: they have a wider and less comfortable waistband, lower rise in the back that leads to sagging, baggy thighs that lead to bunched fabric under outer layers, and are shorter in overall length leaving my ankles exposed. I returned them and hope that my old pairs will last until REI fixes the design and fabric issues with their base layer tights.
I bought a pair of the old version of these tights some months ago and loved them so much I came back for a second pair. When I pulled these on I was disappointed as I immediately felt a difference in the fabric...the old ones were super soft, thin (but warm!) and stretchy. They fit perfectly under jeans without restricting movement. This new version feels much cheaper and plastic-y, and fits differently despite getting the same size (S). They are stiff and tighter all around, so not nearly as uncomfortable to wear under other pants in winter. I decided to keep them to see if I could get used to them but I wish I hadn't.
I love love love these: Very warm, comfortable, and perfect fit. THANK YOU. I’m 5’2” and 115-120 pounds and bought the x-small regular. They fit skin tight and the length is perfect at the ankle. The crotch was weird but after sleeping and lounging in them for two days, perfect there also. The fabric is very excellent quality and the seams are well sewn with slight stretch in a jersey type fabric. I’m very happy and grateful for getting them at the clearance price in the graystone heather and canyon dusk heather.
the older version of these base layer leggings are perfect. they are slim fitting, but have stretch and softness. this new version has barely any stretch to it, is not as soft feeling because of that, and fits horrendously. there is bagging at my thighs and crotch and they are just not wearable whatsoever. not an issue of sizing down because they are tight everywhere else and not in a comfortable second skin kind of way. totally missed the mark with this "new" version. bunch of steps backwards trying to improve what didn't need improving.
I initially purchased this base layer at the beginning of last winter for skiing and loved it so much I purchased 2 more pairs. These tights are SUPER soft and comfy, it honestly feels like I'm wearing pajamas. They also keep me plenty warm under my snow pants (which are insulated). They definitely could be a little better at wicking moisture (sometimes I feel some butt sweat after a long day) but it is a small sacrifice for the warmth and comfort. I also appreciate that they are very high-waisted so I never have to worry about pulling them up. Be aware that these are fitted (like leggings) but the material has a ton of stretch!
I was so disappointed when I tried to buy more of the 2022 version of this item, which I live in during fall/winter. This version is a totally different thing and shouldn't have the same product name! The fit is so weird and messed up (it's simultaneously too tight in the waist and ankles and too baggy in the hips/crotch, somehow?), and the fabric is so uncomfortable. Yet another in a string of recent disappointments from REI. Please step up your game and get current, REI!
I have two pairs of the old version which have been my go to leggings and base layers for skiing for the last couple years, and recently went back to get a third pair for a long upcoming trip and was really disappointed in the material. Much less stretchy and soft! They’re still a more affordable base layer than competitors, and I love the range of lengths (the petit is perfect for 5’4 ladies), but I hope my old ones last forever. Don’t fix things that aren’t broken!
New design is subpar! In spring 2022, I purchased a pair of the previous design style, and they are PERFECT - slim, delightfully-comfy, soft, and the perfect weight for layering. I would buy 3 more pairs if I could, but the current 2023 design is totally different - different fit and uncomfortable fabric. Please bring the old style back - they were the best baselayers.
Bought these about two years ago for use on trails, then realized, brr, I needed these at work too! I bought the L petites, 5'1", 150 and they fit fine. I would roll my long socks over the bottom hem, otherwise they would creep up to bunch at my knees during the day. I'd been noticing some pilling where my thighs rub, and found they've worn through! Pretty bummed that they didn't last longer. I rotated these in and out of my baselayering to try to make them last longer, but alas. Just know that if your thighs touch, these may not hold out for very long.
