Light, Small, and Barely Useful

I purchased two of these compact umbrellas for a trip to Japan in the the spring of 2024. While they are indeed small and light, that's where the good news stops. The umbrellas are flimsy as all get up and a pain to open. They are not meant for any kind of sustained use or constant opening and closing like one would experience while in springtime Japan (not only when going inside a museum, shop, and or restaurant...but also the many subways/trains to go from point 'A' to point 'B'). The constant opening and closing wore the umbrellas out and one broke before we were even one week into the trip (I ended up buying a clear umbrella for ¥500 ($3.35) which performed flawlessly (I even brought it home)). I ended up returning both umbrellas to REI and will be looking for some replacements. This might work as an emergency umbrella in a car or backpack, but that's about all it's good for. I hope this helps(?).

Junk

A rare junk item sold at REI. This umbrella inverts very easily and the shaft completely came apart after the third use. Very difficult to lock open. Completely unreliable.

really bad umbrella

Bought this for my Camino last year. It's a really bad umbrella; opens manually, difficult to get it all the way open, goes inside out the second there's a bit of wind. During out last three days in a constant downpour, I threw it away rather than carry it around on the off chance it would work.

Handle fell apart

The second (?) time I deployed this umbrella the handle telescoped and pulled off. The fragments of metal in the disconnected handle included a flimsy rivet that, I guess, holds the assembly together. An umbrella should not fail this way and I’ve never seen anything like this.

Light Construction/ Ineffective in UKRain

We bought this specifically for its small size and expected it would stand up to Spring rain in the UK. Size was fine but structure of the umbrella is light and flimsy. We’ve returned it.

It's so tiny and awful

It's compact for sure, but do you really need compact when there's 14 mph winds and the rain is nailing you sideways? It's a bad product primarily bc it'll turn inside out at the slightest suggestion of wind. I do like that it's so flat, though. It's good for a girl on the go if the girl on the go doesn't mind being wet when it rains.

Flimsy

This umbrella malfunctioned within a day of use in rainforest. It would not "catch" upon opening.

Don’t buy this

I bought this umbrella for a European trip, as it was compact able. I was very disappointed with the low quality of the structure and its materials. The sliding mechanism for the umbrella was difficult to engage.
