what happened to the tocap?

I received the boots I ordered. Yes. That was it. I looked at the product and was freaked out. The entire toecap of the pair of boots was white as if it had been sprinkled with fine salt. I think there is a problem with this. rei I'm curious about your company's opinion. what's that white thing?

Great fit, fall apart, again and again
No, I do not recommend this product
I have gone through three Technica FOrge GTX hiking boots in 5 years. They fit wonderfully (yes, they have to be heat molded to your feet, so only buy where they have the equipment to do this. A marvelous instant fit, not breaking in. But they FALL APART in 12-18 months. To Technica's credit, they have replaced my boots...twice. But then each time, I have to have them remolded. What I really want them to do is FIX the problem, because these boots feel and work great (until they implode): seams come unstitched, holes by the MTP joint area, rubber edging comes under, holes in material. I wish Technica would fix manufacturing and materials issue. It's not like I am hiking the AT each summer, just 6-10 miles a few times a week. I wish I could recommend these boots. Maybe REI can ask if they are going to fix the issue?

Can’t compare to Oboz
No, I do not recommend this product
Disappointing quality and will return. Lug depth is <5mm, laces are very small diameter and likely short-lived, hooks are plastic, narrow heel but bulky in mid-foot. These were obviously made with outlet-mall type appeal. No way they’re worth full price; not worth keeping at the deeply discounted price point either.

No, I do not recommend this product
Defect in the boot. The inside rubs so hard on the inside of my boot because there is a piece of something that sticks right into your ankle. Super painful.
