I just bought these shoes as an interim while I decide to resole my shaman laced or get a new pair. The phantoms aren’t as comfortable as the shamans, and I do miss the love bump. However, the back of the heel of the phantom fit more snug compared to the weird heel gap that the shamans have. Aside from that. I have noticed the phantom puts more pressure on all of my toes, compared to the shaman only putting pressure on my big toe and second toe. But that could be attributed to me having Morton’s toe. I’m definitely going to go back to the shamans down the road, but I wouldn’t mind keeping these as a back up shoe.
I've had these for a few months now, and while they feel great on my feet (if slightly narrow for my wide feet) and perform very well for me, the stitches on one of the tongues on my right shoe has started coming undone. I do love the compression closure and split tongues which allow for easy on/offs. The soles are stiffer than my zenists, but still quite sensitive. If it weren't for the stitching issue, I would rate them 5 stars.
I love them. The toe feels amazing compared to others shoes I've worn and the rubber all around is really nice. Very comfortable once broken.
I just bought these only a week ago. Have used them 5 times and they are starting to break in and feel even better! These are the best performing and strong shoe I have ever had. It may be just me but Evolv fits my foot perfectly. I’ve had 3 pairs of Shamans and one other pair of Evolvs and I have no complaints about them Whatsoever. The pair of Phantoms in ought from REI were missing the extra laces. I reached out to Evolv and got response the same day. The very next day the new laces were packaged and ready to be shipped to me. Keep up the great work!
I've been using these for months now (I have 1-2 sessions a week) for both bouldering and sport climbing. The 3 main reason I stick with them are 1) they fit really well on my foot (I've got a pretty wide arch, one might say high volume) as a comparison, sportivas we're always too narrow for my foot so I'd have to give up performance or comfort. 2) provides comfortable support on verticals and still performs nice on overhangs Not sure it's The shoe for all, but it's the best shoes I've used so far and I hope they'll stay in production 🙏
Has become my go-to for steep-to-vertical boulders. The wide toe box and narrow heel give a painted-on feel. For me this provides excellent sensitivity while heel hooking or when pulling with my toes on steep lines, which is impressive for a shoe this stiff. The fit is comparable to the OG Mad Rock Drone, except more aggressive. I don’t like the Trax rubber as much as Sportiva’s Vibram XS Edge, but the Phantom mid-sole still allows me to put a good amount of power through small edges. However, I’ve noticed that I’ve got to be much more conscious of applying pressure through the big toe compared to the Solutions or Skwamas. I don’t necessarily consider this a bad thing, but is definitely a consideration on certain boulders or sport lines.
I came from Zenist Pro (my first pair from EVOLV). I wanted something more curved. Phantoms are different than anything what I tried. Really aggressive but perfectly functional shape. The lace system is exceptional, easy put on and off, crank down on feet like nothing else. They are comfy out of box (actually for me more comfy then ZenPro which are also awesome). Really good precision on toes, heel is super sensitive but less powerful than ZenPro which has more structured heel cup - I prefer Phantoms heel, it fits more precise, and the heel rand is pain free (zenist pro goes tear my achilles after hour) Smearing is for now average but for me good enough. Really special feeling shoe, worth the hype. For me all I need - I will stick with these for while.
I absolutely love these shoes. Prior to getting these, I was using La Sportiva Skwamas as my go to shoe, however, I never was a huge fan of how the Skwamas fit on my foot; I felt like my heel never really fit all that well. After doing some research and reading reviews, I decided to go for the Evolv Phantoms and let me tell you, I absolutely adore these shoes and have complete trust in my feet when climbing routes that have small, micro footholds or routes that require precise footwork. If you are looking for a shoe that can be super precise and reliable for standing on ultra small footholds or if you climb routes/boulders that require heel hooking or toe hooking, let me tell you, look no further and pull the trigger on these bad boys, you will NOT regret it! Be warned that these shoes are totally encases in rubber and do not stretch much at all so don't expect them to be overly comfortable or get more comfortable over time. They will slightly comform to your foot more but even several months of climbing 4-5 days a week in these and my feet still get quite painful if leaving the shoe on and strapped up for too long. With that being said, what you are getting are ultra performance climbing shoes that will undoubtedly help you send your next project! Awesome job on these Evolv! You have a new customer that will be coming back for more!
Big fan on the Phantoms. Ran my first pair until I had inch wide holes and finally caved to buy another pair. I downsized a half size from my street size 11 to 10.5 and the shoe fits me absolutely perfectly. Toes are turbo locked in. Heel fits my rather knobby kneels just right. Also rocking a pair of zenist pros that I use for compy stuff and smeary slab problems, and using Phantoms (my beloved) for overhang, small chippy problems, and board climbing.
These shoes are definitely my favorite so far. I have tried Solutions, Instincts, and dragos. this shoe has so much rubber and after about 2 weeks the shoes will soften up. Super supportive for edges but not the most sensitivity. I would definitely recommend these shoes for someone that toe hooks and heel hooks a lot. The heel is surprisingly padded and was not as sensitive as I would have wanted but is nice when I am bouldering outdoors on sharp holds
