stylish rain cover
This rain cover is super cute! I've used it with a 38L and 40L pack. It was easy to get the rain cover to feel secure on each bag and I didn't notice any leakage. Packing the cover back down into it's pocket was also very easy and convenient.
Elastic broke immediately
The elastic broke before I even got outside with it on the first time. My pack is a 30 L, so this 30-50 L rain cover was on the large side. I wanted that so I could strap stuff to the outside of the pack, but under the rain cover, in the future. (However, I didn't have anything strapped to the outside at the time it broke). So it really should not have broken. (I even watched the Gregory video about how to put it on, even though it is pretty obvious.) I assume this is just a manufacturing defect rather than a design defect, because other people seem to like the product. But its failure precisely when I most needed it, and at the beginning of an 8 day backpacking trip, was extremely frustrating.
Great for when you need it
I received this product as part of the advisor program. A rain cover isn't the most exciting piece of gear, but it can be an absolute savior when you need one. To test this rain cover, I took it out for a day trip up to Tahquitz. I didn't have any trekking trips planned, so I decided to test it for fit with my Patagonia Crag Daddy 45L climbing bag on a standard day hike. The black rain cover looks sleek and has a vertical Gregory emblem running up the back. The cover's drawstring synch feature has an elastic cord that you clip underneath the shoulder straps that it is simple and effective. The bottom of the bag has two sleeves that allow you to route your waist straps through. This adds additional coverage and adds to the overall fit. It fit my 45L bag well. However, I would absolutely stay within the recommended bag range. When you're finished with the cover, it folds up nicely into a little pouch for easy stowing. While I didn't get to try it out in the rain, I have no doubt in its ability to repel water. It's made from 70d ripstop polyester - so I have no doubt in its durability either. I was surprised to see that Gregory only offers this rain cover in colorways that are low visibility. There is a saying - "it's good to be seen in the mountains". This generally pertains to a rescue situation where a high visibility color could be vital for rescue. I think there is a utility to both high-visibility and low-visibility equipment. This is just an observation that Gregory is only offering low-visibility colors for this rain cover. All in all, this is a simple but sleek rain cover.
Compact and lightweight rain cover
It's small when folded, so it's great to carry in your bag.
Highly recommend!
Highly recommend this cover! It’s compact, easy to use and most importantly, it works! Additionally, packing the cover back into the attached pocket was quick and easy! Surprisingly, while in a pinch, I threw it over my son’s travel soccer bag and it fit perfectly. We usually place his bag in a trash bag to prevent it from getting soaked while on the fields but since we didn’t have one, we gave this cover a try and it fit perfectly! This truly is a versatile cover!
Great Protection and Snug Fit
I brought this raincover on a daylong hike with me. Although it did not rain a ton, it did certainly help keep my pack cool. It fit snugly, but was still easy to put on and take off. Still need to test it when the rain is really coming down, but should work great. Always nice having in the bag just in case a rainstorm does come by.
Pretty good but not great
This is a pretty good rain cover. It's fairly light, is made of a material that seems relatively sturdy, and it has a built in pouch for conveniently packing away. However, I wouldn't say I liked this cover so much to suggest anyone go out of their way for it. It didn't seem to have anything special about it's design that would make it stand out against any other rain covers (I've used Osprey & REI brand ones before). My main complaint is the hook that attaches across the back of the bag to the elastic on the other side. This seemed like a nice feature to keep the cover in place until I had the piece of plastic rubbing into by back... depending on the shape and fit of your backpack this may not be an issue, but for me it was better to just not use this feature. My fiance has a cover that implemented that idea with elastic and velcro, and that just seems way more comfortable. In the end, if this cover is in your favorite color and the hook won't bother you, go for it! It's really not a bad product, just wasn't optimal for me.
Good designed
The Gregory 30-50L rain cover is easy to use. The tightening cord is relatively easy to use solo. Good fit in a variety of packs. I even tried it on my wife and sons smaller day packs and with a little maneuvering it worked on those as well
Nicely done
This raincover is perfect when I have my larger pack less full and don’t need the extra material. And it has taped seams unlike the cover that came with my pack. It is indeed waterproof and fits snugly.
Good for when you need it.
Relatively light and does what it’s supposed to. Fits my Gregory 48L pack well without being too baggy or too difficult to get on. Dries out quickly and folds up compactly once the weather clears.
