Compact charger and battery if you prefer it.
Received free product
The option of a specific battery and charger may only appeal to a small niche. This was sent to me to review; however, I would not have bought this. I am happy to use rechargeable AAA batteries and recharge them since I already have plenty of rechargeable AAA batteries that I bring on camping/caving trips. I personally disagree with proprietary options when the standard options are available. If this is for you, my only gripe with it, is that it used a micro-USB charging cable, which I have less and less of, so now I have to carry both a micro-USB cable and USB-C cables. I would have appreciated the modern standard to minimize accessories to bring. The battery and charger feel very well made. The battery fits well, and you can't put it in incorrectly and close the headlamp. I would not recommend this to my friends as they're similar to me and just buy/recharge AAA batteries.

Battery Lost Charge While in Storage
Upon purchasing the BD Spot 400 headlamp and this battery I fully charged the battery (indicated by the 3 blue lights on the side of the BD headlamp). After storing the headlamp for two weeks the battery charge had diminished to 2 blue lights. I used the headlamp for a few minutes and stored it again. When I went to use it one week later there was only 1 blue light on the headlamp's battery charge indicator. During storage the headlamp light was "locked" in off and stored in a cool dry place. Ive ordered an exchange of the battery. If the new battery does not perform better the problem might be in the BD headlamp.

Rechargeable is a must for headlamps

Received free product

I like having the rechargeable battery instead of using disposable ones because they can be recharged after each use so that my headlamp is fully charged each time I use it. The battery does need to be removed from the headlamp to go in the charger but that’s easy and not a big deal. The headlamp is more compact as a result. The battery is the same size as three AAAs. The battery life is good.

Small, Light and Powerful

Received free product

I have this battery paired with a Black Diamond Storm 450 headlamp. I am super happy with this combination. The battery charges quickly and has good run time in this headlamp. I have run it 4 hours on the high setting and it was still going strong when I turned it off for the night. I like that the headlamp can also run on AA batteries if I get stuck out for an extended time. It is a nice small, lightweight battery. I'm not into lugging a boat anchor into the mountains so this fits the bill. Great battery at a reasonable price. I highly recommend the BD 1500 Battery paired with the BD Storm 450.

Excellent staying power, compact, and lightweight

Received free product

I got this battery to use with the Black Diamond Cosmo 350 Headlamp. I got this battery/headlamp combo for car camping to replace an older, heavy, slow charging, low battery life headlamp. This battery charges easily from my van's solar panel, and the battery life is excellent. The charger is small and compact, and all the cable connections and battery alignment marking are easy to see and unambiguous (ie, idiot proof). An unanticipated surprise is that the battery is also lighter than 3 AAAs, (and the headlamp is lighter than my old backpacking headlamp). So now, in addition to being my van-camping headlamp/battery combo, this will be my new backpacking headlamp/battery combo for the upcoming backpacking season.

Lasts long, works well.

Received free product

It is a battery. It works as you would expect a battery to work. I use it in the Black Diamond Moji Lantern and on high, it lasted exactly as long as promised and it still had some juice to run on emergency low mode. The downside is the need for a dedicated charger (included), which comes with a detachable USB cable. There is no wall charger included.

Review when used with BD Moji + Lantern

Received free product

I received this to use with the Black Diamon Moji + Lantern. I charged it to full and used it with BD Moji lantern for about 10 hours and it was still going strong. The only problem was that it popped off too easily from the battery compartment of the lantern. I am unsure if that is the design issue of this battery or the lantern. I would set the lantern on the table as normally and it would pop off so I needed to be extra gentle. I haven't tested with a BD headlamp so this review is only for the battery used with the lantern. I would still recommend this battery. It is nice to have alternative to regular batteries.

Extending headlamp hours

Received free product

I received the Cosmo 350 headlamp and it came with 3 AAA batteries (which, side note: how awesome is it that the product came with batteries? Feels rare these days!). I also received the BD 1500 rechargeable battery. Using this is a snap. First, the battery and its included charger are very light. A small USB cable is included but a power brick is not. But, let's be honest: all of us have a USB-A power brick somewhere in our homes. Charging the battery is a breeze and does not take long. Like another reviewer, I put the fully charged battery into the the BD Headlamp (Cosmo 350) and left it on at a medium setting while I went to work. 10 hours later and the light was still going as promised on the packaging. Overall, this is a great companion for the Black Diamond headlamps; they're meant to be bought together.

Why?

Black diamond is so close to the perfect headlamp but I just don’t understand their decisions here. It’s just bad all around. Both Petzl and nitecore put the charging port directly on the battery without the need for an external dock. Furthermore why use out dated micro usb instead of USB C? Again, nitecore for the win. This had the potential to be a perfect product but instead falls embarrassingly short.

Decent battery, charger stand is outdated

It is a decent rechargeable battery, however it's not necessarily easier/better than just using rechargeable AAAs. The need for the separate charger is disappointing when compared to the Petzl CORE battery. With the CORE you can plug the micro usb directly into the battery without needing to take it out of the device or use a separate charger. As is, I'll probably return it and just use rechargeable AAAs.
