Maximize space & sleep well while car camping!
Wow the sleep platform was a breeze to assemble/takedown (or move to a tent if desired) and with a very minor tweak, a perfect fit for my ‘18 Subaru Forester. Lots of storage underneath. I purchased the 25” so I have the second rear seat up, gear storage around the bed is plentiful. Great functionality, adjustable height, & quality materials. Couldn’t be more excited.
This works perfect in my Outback.
This is very well designed for those that want to use this for car camping. It is easy to assemble and install in the back of the vehicle. It is built solid and does not move once it is in place. I also like the versatility so it can be used as a cot in a tent or wherever you need to put a bed for the night. I have plenty of headroom and room for storage under the sleeping platform. This is a excellent alternative to building a platform and storage for those that do car camping. I do a lot of trail maintenance in the White Mountains and this will make it much easier to do some quick overnight trips to the trails.
The 40-inch does NOT fit a Toyota 4Runner
It appears to be a great product, very easy to put together when I did a trial run in the driveway But it did not fit in my 2022 Toyota 4Runner - the footwell piece was several inches too narrow, and the cot itself a few inches too long to use in between the wheel wells. I even tried it as a cot in my classic ca mid-90s Half Dome, but it is hard to set up in the confined space of a 2-person tent, and it was too narrow to adequately support our double air mattress. Darn! I really tried hard to make it work, but I just couldn’t, so am returning it. I would definitely recommend it for the right-sized vehicle, heartbroken that it won’t fit mine.
Perfect for a 2008 Toyota Highlander
I picked this up on a whim because it was on sale and there were some good reviews. I figured I would just try it. I bought the 25” width for my 2008 Toyota Highlander when it’s just me. Sitting next to it is a Dometic CFX3 55IM. The platform fits perfectly while still keeping the front passenger seat comfortable, reclined, and still far back from the dashboard. We didn’t have to change it from our usual preference. The mattress pad itself is a little too firm for me so I’m deducting 1 star for comfort as well as because of the large size when packed in its carry case. You’ll need decent storage space for it. I will likely replace the pad with something else like an Exped or a softer tri-fold foam. It’s a great value on sale, especially for someone like me who isn’t mechanically inclined to create or build a solution on my own. Here are photos which I hope will help! The wheeled under bed storage container from the Container Store has a half lid open from each end which makes it easy to access things without taking out the entire bin. It’s shown between the legs of the platform. It’s a bit snug but works well enough.
Elevated car camping experience
Big fan. I used to camp in my car with just a sleeping pad, which would always sink into the legroom space and I would try to prop it up with whatever bags I had around. This easy-to-set-up system keeps me sleeping level and allows for accessible storage underneath. You can also swap out the extended legs for the basic ones (included) to use as a regular cot in your tent or house! Fits (snug) in my 2015 Subaru Forester. FYI: You really need to shove the poles to lock into their brackets. I didn't the first time and had a little trouble with the other ends popping out during setup. Overall, I love it. Really elevated ;) my car camping experience.
Perfect fit! - (5th Gen 4Runner)
Photos of how I modified platform to fit 5th Gen 4Runner. (remove rear seat cushion; remove platform sleeve containing flattened feet; trim the platform leg by 2.5 inches that sits on the center hump of the floor. This allows the rear of the platform to a reduced height of 7 inches. Total headroom now 26 inches (29 inches without a 3 inch foam mattress).
Perfect Fit in a 4Runner!
The 40” trailgate fits perfectly in my 2018 4Runner. With the middle+rear legs maxed out and the front legs at the very bottom (see pic) it levels out the platform/cot perfectly. Great quality which is why it’s so heavy (50+ lbs) for a cot. Would rather have a strong and stable platform versus a cheap/lightweight setup for car camping. Easy to assemble/disassemble for storage/transport. Simple to modify/fold in half if you need space for cooler/camping gear.
Great fit in my Subaru Outback 2021
Was able to install in my Outback 2021 with no problems on passenger side of car, level sleep surface and stable frame. Legs have a lot of adjustability so I place one leg on footwell floor and one on the center bump. Sweet mattress.
Just what I’ve been searching for!
Picked this up during the Anniv sale and was so happy to come across this! I’ve been looking for a sleeping option for the back of my Ford Flex. I had looked at some of the big wooden platforms but they were too heavy and would’ve required significant storage when not in use. So I got this massive box home and I had this platform out of the box, fully assembled first on the floor, then in my car…by myself (I’m a 60 yr old 5’1 woman!), with no tools and zero handy skills, in less than the time it took to cook a pizza! The included pad would be ok on its own for most, but I am pairing it with a self inflating pad for added comfort. (I figured out, thanks to another reviewer that I could set one of the front legs on the floor and the other up on the hump so that 2 star reviewer didn’t notice this, I don’t think. For a second I thought it would only work in the center of the vehicle too, but it thankfully isn’t the case.) Ready to roll with this baby!
Perfect!!
I started car camping this spring and didn’t want to make a build until I was sure it’s how I want to travel. It is! I use my car for work so I didn’t want anything permanent. I bought car camp cot online last night and picked it up at REI this morning. It was easy to set up in my 2011 Subaru Forester. I read all of the reviews before I purchased it and it seemed like the Subaru Forester folks are more open to adapting stuff to make it work. I guess we’re a resourceful bunch. Lol. The front leg toward the driver side sits on the bump and the leg is tall, so instead of putting something under the long leg in the leg well, I took the adjustable extension off the leg on the bump and placed a piece of paving stone under it to level it. That left me some decent head room. I’ll post pics. I also substituted my 4” trifold mattress for the mattress it came with. I think this is going to work great and I’m glad I got it!! What a deal!!
