Great shoe, but not suitable for my footshape.
I loved the toe space in this shoe! I did not get any blisters like I have had my previous pair of hiking shoes. However I found with my narrow heel I did not feel stable in this shoe. I also felt I needed a shoe with a thicker sole due to the terrain I tend to hike (rugged with roots and rocks) I sadly had to return these shoes to find a pair more comfortable for my wide foot and narrow heel. I needed more support.
Best trail runner. Knee pain gone.
This is my first Altra shoe, and I'm already an Altra fangirl. Most comfortable shoe. They are surprisingly more cushioned than they look like they would be. They took no breaking in, besides easing in to that zero drop coming from a standard shoe. I can hike long distances comfortably, and my knee pain is gone which is incredible. My feet do get tired on longer road walks, but once I hit trail my feet are happy again. They clean up like new after an ankle deep sludgy muddy hike. Water goes in and out easily so you don't have completely waterlogged feet. I've only got about 100 miles on them, but I've abused them, and they have held up beautifully so far. I've tossed my old shoes, and just purchased another pair of everyday Altras because my old athletic shoes and trail runners feel awful after wearing these.
Love the shoe but not durable at all
I've been enjoying the shoe because it's comfortable, lightweight, and versatile. I was excited that they would be a little better than my old Lone Peaks. The fit of these was a little larger than my old pair. BUT! I've never had a pair of shoes fall apart SO quickly with so little use. Within the first month using them there are holes. I'm not an avid runner or hiker, and don't wear these every day, maybe once a week max this summer. There are 4 holes in my shoes. I don't typically wear gear out fast, so this is new to me. I'm bummed because I feel as if I've just started to use them! Hoping it's just a bad pair. Besides the shoddy durability love the shoe and the colors.
Best Minimalistic Runners and Hikers shoe!
I have been wearing barefoot shoes for a year and a half now. The only thing I was missing was shoes with a little support to help me run, hike, and perform better at the gym. After a careful research the Lone Peak was my best choice, and after measuring my size at a REI store I was sure to order an 8.5 which is 40 EU size. Today I got my order and I’m highly satisfied from delivery to how to shoe looks and how it feels. The wideness in the toe area is the best. I highly recommend buying this shoe, but before purchasing always measure your foot!
New favorite hikers
I hiked the Dolomites in Italy with these guys and I was impressed right away by their grip. I didn’t slip once even when the rocks were wet, and there wasn’t any need to break them in. I was worried about not having ankle support while hiking but honestly these shoes are a game changer and I’ll never go back. I just replaced them with the new lone peak 7 now that I’ve used up these awesome shoes. The one thing I’d recommend is switching out the laces though, as I’ve never found Altra to have laces that stay tied.
100% recommend
I had a co-worker recommend altra trail shoe 1 week before a 15 mile mountain trail run. I did not have time to break them in and I had absolutely no pain. Plus, I did not fall once running up or down sand and lava rock terrain that was very steep. The first pair I ordered were a half size too big and ended up expressing a second pair in a smaller size. (I read they run small so I ordered up, but they ran true to size for me.) Return was easy on the first pair and received money back quickly. I am 100% happy with the shoe and the customer experience. Thanks!
Feels awesome but materials break down fast
I love how these shoes fit; no other shoes allow me to run pain-free. This will be my third pair, I'm not a serious runner, but I make a little trail running and a lot of hiking and walking in them. In addition to the delightfully spacious toebox, the soles have a good grip, which is excellent for hiking and running on steep, uneven, rocky surfaces. The downside to these shoes is that the materials aren't super sturdy. The tread/ lugs on the soles tear off and wear down, the interior fabric around the ankle and heel breaks down pretty fast, and I always rip a hole in the toe. If there is a sturdier version, preferably with a heavily reinforced toe, I'd love to try it.
My 8th pair of Lone Peaks— always a sure bet!
I’ve been wearing Altra Lone Peaks since version 2.0 and all the models in between. They always fit perfectly right out of the box and make my feet so happy! I usually swap out the insert for one with a higher arch which adds even more spring to my step. It’s been interesting to study each iteration to discover the improvements that Altra prides itself on incorporating. This pair is a soothing blue color way and will save them until later this year after I thoroughly wear down versions 4.5 and 5.0 first. Now I’ve got something tried and true to look forward to in 2023 thanks to REI’s end of season markdowns. Yay!
The Best Version Yet
I think these are the best Lone Peaks to date! I was worried that they might be narrower and have less of a toe box from previous versions but was very pleasantly surprised. The toe box actually feels a bit wider than my beloved 4.5's which is awesome. The Ego midsole is a huge improvement. They are more cushioning but not clunky at all. The lacing design change is sharp. The shoe feels more substantial than previous versions but it is noticeably lighter. I wear them to the gym and Lone Peaks are my go to hiking shoes. I love them!
Will buy again when they improve durability
Let me start with the good stuff. These shows are THE MOST COMFORTABLE shoes I've ever owned. Honestly my foot has never felt better. Downfall, as you can see in the photo, the material is l ready breaking down and I'm shocked and sad. I've only had these shoes TWO MONTHS, and they are too expensive to not be way more durable than this. Please please please correct this. I'd love to buy the hiking shoes and more running in the future, but only if they're going to last.
