Sizing Notes
Measurements are stated in inches unless otherwise indicated. Size chart values represent body measurements, not garment measurements. Some women's pants are available in petite and tall sizes. Typically petite sizes fit women 4'11" to 5'3". Regular sizes fit women 5'4" to 5'8". Tall sizes fit women 5'9" to 5'11".
PETITE: Generally, as compared to regular sizes, petite sizes are 2.5 inches shorter in inseam, 1 inch shorter in body length, 1.25 inches shorter in sleeve length and Âľ inch shorter in total rise.
TALL: tall sizes are 3 inches longer in inseam, 2 inches longer in body length, 2.5 inches longer in sleeve length and 1.25 inches longer in total rise.
Capri or cropped pants have an intentionally shorter inseam—reference the technical specs instead of this chart.
Inseam is measured to the floor.

Great Compression and Lots of Pockets!
These running tights have great compression and I love all of the pockets (1 pocket on each leg that easily and securely fits a cell phone, and 2 pockets near the waist for gels). The fabric is the perfect weight—thin enough to be breathable, but not too thin that it feels revealing. I also like that the fabric is matte and not shiny, like a lot of other athletic tights. The love the tights and they’re comfortable to run in. I thought the seams might feel uncomfortable because, although they are flat seams, they are a little thicker than the seams on some of my other tights. But I didn’t notice any discomfort when running, so that wasn’t an issue. If I could change one thing, I’d add one small zipper pocket on the back to securely hold a credit card. However these tights have the most pockets I’ve ever seen on running tights, including the side slip pockets which are pretty secure. So it’s fine without the extra zip pocket.
Nice Fabric but Terrible Seams
These are way small and the seams are not stretchy or durable at all. I thought I accidentally received a small because they were so tiny but some leggings look like that and stretch to fit so I gave them a chance. I ordered a medium (usually do a small in yoga leggings and medium in anything with compression) but I could barely get these up to my thighs because the waist wouldn't stretch. As I tugged them up I heard threads snapping. The threads broke around the waist and in the crotch and I never even got them fully on. It is like they used non-stretch threads. I am sad because the fabric seems great for fall running but these didn't even last 5 minutes.
I hate pants but can actually wear these!
I'm really picky about leggings/pants in general because I get hot really easily so I was pleasantly surprised when I put these on and didn't instantly overheat. These aren't my everyday choice, but I'll wear them when it's cold enough or even when I'd go to the office and pair with a polo. I also like that they're high-waisted and the stay high/don't roll down. I like my clothes a bit baggier so got the XL. I'm 5'3", about 155 lbs with athletic build, 37.5" hip, and 31" waist. My legs are short so these are basically full-length for me. I want to try the L because would like a snugger legging so am hope REI comes back with more sizes! The only other legging I've found so far that I'm also not overheating in is Oya Femtech's leggings.
Received on accident. Decided to keep!
I ordered 2 pairs of the Swiftland hybrid pants. Received one correct pair and these tights by mistake. Figured I'd try them on to see if I liked them. First impression was they were WAY too small to be a M. I'm an athletic gal with thighs and a boots, and did struggle to get them on initially. Everything except the waist has some stretch. They feel durable. I plan on taking them climbing in the Enchantments next week to test their performance. If you plan on buying these, I'd size up if you're a person with meat.
Smooth and stretchy, low compression
These 7/8 leggings are extremely soft and smooth and the fabric is stretchy. I got an XS and thought they would be too small when I saw them, but they fit perfectly with some low comfortable compression. The feel of the material is like a softer swim legging. The waist is higher than I normally wear, coming right up to my bellybutton, but also has a discreet drawstring which will come in handy during running. Yes, there are pockets on BOTH legs, nice and deep enough for a phone and firmly holds it in place when moving and sitting, and small pockets on both sides of the waist that are almost invisible and lay flat. Extra bonus, the material seems to repel dog hair, and holds up after washing and hang dry (they also dry very fast!). I am 5’4” and the length goes down to just above my ankles, with a snug fit that doesn’t ride up or flare out. Due to an injury, I have only been out walking in these (and a lot of sitting and laying down) but they feel just as supportive as any running leggings and I look forward to testing them out on a trail. They don't slide around or fall down. Overall, the thing that impresses me most about these tights is that they have so many features but maintain a sleek look and are super comfortable without any bulk - even around the pockets and drawstring! It's everything you could want. Love the color too, all my other tights are black and this was a nice change.
Sizing changed since April 2023
I'm tall and pear shaped, usually wear a small top and 10L or 12L in bottoms. I bought 2 of these leggings (red & purple) in-store 4 months ago in size Large and I adore them, so I decided to get another (black) online during the Labor Day Sale. Unfortunately this didn't work out because the sizing has changed. The new black Large is cut a whole size smaller now; the waistband won't go over my hips and the leg is an inch shorter. It doesn't even seem to line up with the size guide on the product page. I really hope REI just changed the sizing ranges and didn't change the underlying proportions... I'll reorder in XL and update this review.
Tendency to slide down
Love the color (green!) and all of the pockets! Maybe I'm just in between sizes, but the smalls felt really great on, but were a little too small. I returned those and exchanged them for a medium, which felt pretty great ... until I ran in them. One mile in, I was constantly hitching them up. Unfortunately, I returned them. I like the 7/8 length, which it sounds like lots of reviewers don't care for, but I'm on the shorter side, so maybe that's why. I was also not a fan of the fabric. I liked the weight of it for colder weather, but it felt kind of cool to the touch, which was odd. I really wanted to love these since I like so many things about them, but they just weren't for me.
Sizing is way off on these!!
I bought these, unfortunately without trying them on because I wear a size small in every brand of leggings (or so I thought). They looked pretty small on the hanger, so I hopped on my handy REI app, pulled them up, and checked the size chart which still put me at a small for my measurements (34/28/38). After purchasing them at this particular REI and getting home (hundreds of miles away), I find they do not fit. I can’t even pull them up all the way because they are THAT small! Due to REI’s return policy for in store purchases, I cannot return them either.. I was so excited for these because they seem like such a great pair of running tights!
Very happy with these tights!
I bought these last minute before a mountain trail race when it turned out the weather would be cold and even snowy (in June!). I had planned to buy another brand but it wasn't in stock and I needed these NOW. Race day morning was cold, with a chilly wind up on the ridge, then it got warmer on the way down the mountain. I never once thought about the tights during the race. Meaning: they did their job perfectly! Very impressed with the REI Swiftland line, REI is getting it right, and offering a solid competitive option compared to other popular trail running brands. Kudos!
Barely fits over backside
I measured my waist and double checked the size chart before buying. I am 5’3” 128 lbs. I don’t have Avery curvy build or large backside. The first time I tried these on I had to shimmy them over my rear end and heard the dreaded pop-pop-pop of the waist threads. Once on, they fit like a dream. But even when I’m careful pulling them up or down I hear more threads popping. And it’s no fun to have to be that careful pulling running tights off to use the bathroom, so I don’t see myself using them much because of that Disappointing. Lesson learned, these are probably $37 for a reason.
