Great shoe with a few caveats
I really appreciate this shoe comes in widths. I ordered the size 11 wide and they have *plenty* of room in the toebox (both width and height) for my high-volume EE feet. I had just finished hiking southern Utah in my Hoka Speedgoat 5s and was looking for a shoe with a little more protection. The Moab 3s are built like a tank compared to the Hokas - very protective but that also comes with a weight penalty as they are considerably heavier than the Speed goats. Upon the first hike over a variety of surfaces, I like the added protection these shoes offer in technical rocky sections. The grip, however, is not as good as the grip on the Speedgoats - it's fine for dry hardpack and most dry conditions - however, on wet rocks and roots, it can be as slippery. The outsole seems to be significantly harder than the Speedgoat outsoles. I'm assuming this will extend the life of the outsole but it does not provide great grip on wet surfaces. Overall, I do recommend these shoes but just be careful on hard, wet surfaces until you get used to the limited grip in such situations.

Outsoles came unglued
Within 2 months of wearing these shoes, the outsoles started to come unglued from the front and sides. I've never had a pair of shoes come apart the way they did, let alone within such a short period of time. They were also not as comfortable as many reviews led on or compared to other shoes I've tried. They have very little arch support. The insoles were pretty much worthless. These shoes were supposed to be stand-ins until I could get a hold of the shoes I normally wear but they couldn't make it too long before falling apart.

Have Merrell's will travel.

Best hiker on the market. Both comfortable and durable these are much like the many pairs of Merrell's I've owned over the past 20 years.

Worst Hiking Shoes Ever

I bought my first pair of Merrell Moab 3 Waterproof Hiking Shoes on June 19, 2023 and found that within 2 months they had stretched so much that my heel was getting blisters because they had become too large for me. At the same time the inside of the heel on each shoe was starting to come apart and the laces on one of the shoes started to fray and then broke on me. I stopped wearing these and went to find a Hiking Boot or Shoe that would stand up to the short walks I was taking around my neighbourhood as well as some of the trails I liked to walk. I would never buy a pair of Merrell Hiking Boots or Shoes again, as the don't offer quality support at the heel or along the font/sides.

Fully Tested

Took it through the grinder with a 14 mile hike through Walnut Canyon. Got soaked, rocky trails, smooth trails it got it all. All I can say bad was it didnt have the grip I wanted with wet rocks.

Perfect day hiker

Bought these for hiking around Boulder, Colorado and they handled the terrain very well. Rocks, rain, steep inclines, etc. these were comfortable and rugged out of the box.

The triple crown

I live in Roanoke Virginia. My wife and I recently did the triple crown on the Appalachian Trail. This hike consists of going to McAfee Knob,Tinker Cliffs and Dragons Tooth it’s about 30 miles on some rough and rocky terrain. We both hike wearing Merrell boots. No problems. No blisters or hot spots on our feet while providing excellent traction and footing. I’ll never hike in anything else. Thank you for providing a wonderful product

Fantastic traction and waterproof

Best hiking footwear I’ve had and now on second pair. Ive hiked the Andes, Annapurna Circuit Himalyas, Lake Superior Hiking Trail, 15 Fourteeners in Colorado, Mournes Mtns & Muckish Ireland, Camel Back Arizona and most recent the Karwendel Moutain Range Germany. Too many to mention. . Fantastic footwear and I wouldnt be on any trail unless my Moabs were on my feet.
