Ok for sitting, but that’s it.
I decided to pick up some water shoes to wear over my dry suit with integrated socks. I thought this would protect my rather expensive dry suit when landing on rocky beaches. Although it seemed like a good plan, these shoes aren’t the ticket. They basically will not stay on for walking. The built-in gortex socks are too slippery and you simply cannot cinch these things on tight enough to stay. Especially when they are wet. They are both warm and comfortable while you’re sitting in your kayak and paddling. But they’re virtually useless for walking anywhere. I intend on buying the higher ankle height booties and hope they are better for walking up beaches.
Could be great but not secure enough
I've had a handful of NRS's low river booties over the years. This newer model of kicker is nice but the single strap over the top of the foot just doesn't seem secure enough. This is compounded by the fact that the 3mm is very stretchy and the toe box is quite wide, which also makes them less snug. It's probably fine for walking the beach, etc. but for whitewater, I just don't trust it not to come off, so it's going back. Previous versions had a combo of a strap and cinch cord around the opening or strap that ran around the ankle and over the top. NRS, please return to a more secure style. Also they seem to run a little big so if you're planning on wearing them without any socks, etc. I'd consider going a half size down.
Awesome water shoe
Husband has size 12 1/2 extra wide feet and these worked great in a size 13 to get the little bit of extra width. Fit snug enough to not get sand and rocks inside when launching fishing pontoon. Very comfortable and the Velcro adjustment for the ankle has extra length for men with very large bone structure. If you’re a big guy who needs some water shoes, these are it.
Great Shoe
Great shoe for windsurfing. I really like the toebox as it fits a normal foot perfectly, and you can size down for a better fit without getting your toes squished. The strap works great, and my shoes stay firmly on even in really muddy lakes. For reference, I'm a 10.5 in most shoes, 11 in saucony and a size 10 fits perfectly. The 11 had way too much room in the toebox.
Inferior replacement for the Titanium
About 10 years ago I got a pair of NRS Titanium water shoes. They were awesome. I wore them hard for years, hiking miles up and down rocky river canyons. They never slipped off, never popped a seam, never got a hole. They were the perfect balance of rugged and comfortable. They never wore out. I'm sure I'd still be wearing them now, but they got lost or stolen one summer, and I've been looking for a replacement ever since. These Kicker shoes look similar to the Titaniums, but their design and craftsmanship is inferior in almost every way. The material is thinner, the ankle cuff is thinner and has no drawstring. The stitching is more widely spaced, the gluing between the upper and the sole looks questionable, and the sole isn't as stiff or grippy. Just walking around on flat ground, it feels like my heel is going to slip out of them. NRS, please bring back the Titaniums, or a new design that matches their quality. I would happily buy two pairs!
Great water shoes
Great water shoes! Bought these for beaches on Kauai. Rubber soles thick enough to be comfortable (as long as I didn't step on 1 inch rocks, which I quickly learned to avoid). Great traction when walking on larger rocks with flat surfaces at the water's edge.
Great shoe
The shoes are very comfortable. Nice and wide at the toe box, too. I didn’t have any problems with the shoe slipping off my foot and I have very narrow feet and ankles. To the comments wanting drain holes, this is a wet shoe just like a wet suit. There’s supposed to be water inside. That’s what keeps your feet warm.
Not made for rafting!
Not for Rafting! Running from boat to boat, they would fall off and deep mud would just suck them right off. Very comfortable but the sole is thin, walking on rocks is tricky.
Lost a shoe the first time wearing them
Horrible shoes. Lost a shoe the first time I went swimming after going overboard on a rafting trip. Bought them to go over a dry suit but the heal just wouldn’t stay on even when walking around on dry land. Lost a shoe the first time in water. Waste of $53. Another person on the trip had them and hated them too. Wouldn’t recommend
Great for walking into the ocean
I use these weekly for cold water plunging in the Puget Sound every Sunday morning and they are wonderful. Super comfy and durable.
