great for what it is
Served it's purpose well. I'm 5'1", 120lb, and got a size small. It's a summer and early fall jacket because it's light weight and after a down pour you'll feel some moisture wick through a little which isn't a problem if it's an ok temp outside. You'd want a thicker gortex jacket for late fall or early spring. It dries quickly and packs away to a pretty small size. If it's "breathable" you'll be getting wet eventually during a rainy day bit this jacket blocks the wind and I would rate it as a rain/wind shield or a perfectly good jacket in a short light rain. I'll take it backpacking again in the summer because of it's light weight and the armpit zippers ventilate so it doesn't make me overheat while I'm slogging through a wet hike.

Not waterproof or even water repellent
If you just want an expensive windbreaker, this jacket is fine. If you want something for even light rain, this jacket fails. I was out in a light, steady rain for about 10 minutes in the yard while wearing this jacket, first time trying it in the rain. The rain seeped through the jacket. I am so tired of companies making false claims about their products and nothing happens to them and they keep selling their products that do not live up to their claims. Shame on you North Face. Maybe the waterproofing application wasn't done correctly on this jacket, but that's still poor quality control. I now want to return it. My search continues for a lightweight, waterproof rain jacket.

Simply the Best

The fit is fantastic both for me and my wife. The performance has been outstanding for last the days. Traveling and touring The Netherlands with periods of wind, rain and sleet. No worries to stay dry and comfortable!

Not water repellent or resistant

I first wore this to a volcano hike that had some rain on the way, I noticed some water got through instead of beading off. I didn’t think much of it. I took it again on another camp/hike and I got soaked all the way through. It might be water repellent if you’re walking by the vegetables that are getting misted at a grocery store but as for being out on the trail, I say skip it. You’ll be soaked through and through

Was really nice for 1 summer of use :(

I was excited to find a light jacket with pit zips - I run hot and it's been difficult for me to find good rain protection that doesn't trap heat in and make me feel clammy or sweaty during rainy outdoor activities. I used this jacket for 1 summer as rain and wind buffer and it worked well - it is comfortable and stylish, the pockets and hood are nice, and it didn't keep me too hot. It is now the spring after I purchased it and I just wore it outside for running city errands on a rainy day - my sweater underneath was soaked through in the shoulders and arms. I followed the care instructions for "reviving" the waterproofing, but to no avail. I'm disappointed. :(

Good jacket, short arms

The jacket seems to keeping the rain out so far, but I haven't had it long enough to know how well it will hold up. As other reviewers have said, the arms are definitely too short! I wear it over a down jacket and I have to push the sleeves in under the rain jacket. The hood is also a bit short when putting it over my down jacket hood.

Awesome Gift

I bought this rain jacket as a gift for my sister traveling abroad. She loves it and she looks amazing in it. Big brother gets all the credit! Thanks REI

I'm very happy with this jacket

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've been looking without success for quite a while for a jacket to replace a worn out favorite, so was cautious, skeptical and hopeful all at the same time about taking a chance on this one. I glad to say I'm really happy with it. The weight is perfect, I love all the pockets, and esp like the venting zippers. That was a feature from my previous jacket that I'd had trouble finding. The fit is very nice, the hood is great, and the tea green color is a really nice soft sophisticated green. It's so hard to know what to expect re a color you only see online. I also like the length even tho it's longer than my old jacket. A pleasant surprise.

Jacket not waterproof

This jacket is not waterproof! I hiked it in a few times in the rain and felt like it soaked through really quickly, but wasn't sure if my clothes were damp because of sweat. Then I went for a 20 minute walk in my neighborhood with very light, Seattle rain, and it soaked through. Very disappointed as I have a number of North Face jackets that have been fantastic. I will be returning this jacket.
