Marmot  Limelight 3P Tent with Footprint

This is a nice tent that is super easy and quick to set up. My boys' scout troop uses Marmot tents and they have withstood a lot of abuse so I wanted to get on of my own for when I'm on campouts with them. This one feels like it is of the same high quality and ease of use as the other Marmot products that we have used. I like that this tent has an included footprint and there's plenty of room thanks to its layout. Unfortunately, when I first received this tent it was missing a grommet so I had to exchange it, only to find that the replacement tent was also missing the same grommet. Luckily the third tent had no such problem. REI has excellent customer service so the exchanges weren't a problem and I can't really complain about such a minor issue, just check over your tent thoroughly when you get it to make sure that everything is in order before you go to use it the first time. There seems to be some confusion on REI's website in regards to this tent's dimensions so I'm including photos of the tags that came with it.

Super easy setup! First time we set it up, took us right at 3 minutes. The 2 corner pockets at the head gives a perfect pocket for your personal gear. Love this tent!!!

Set up is a breeze, I like that the poles and tabs are color coordinated making it super simple to keep everything straight. Having an included footprint is nice. Our scout troop uses Marmot tents and they've lasted well so I wanted to get one for myself for when I'm camping with the boys. This tent is high quality and seems like it will last. Unfortunately, the first Limelight 3P tent I purchased had a missing grommet so I exchanged it, only to find that its replacement was also missing a grommet. Luckily the third tent had no such issue and has worked perfectly on the campouts I've used it on so far. So my advice is to check the tent out thoroughly when you first receive it to make sure that all the parts are in order.

I purchased the prior version of this tent, and they would not replace it when the rain fly failed. Instead, they offered a discount on a new tent. So much for their "lifetime guarantee".

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have been using this tent for 3 years now. The design is smart and practical, including the internal height, the aerodynamic shape, the open to, the vestibule - and it's a piece of cake to put it up / take it down in less than 3 minutes total (2 people) or 5 minutes (1 person, inc. packing it away). I have found it to be the best in its price category. It has withstood 100kmph wind and 120 Fahrenheit in the Canyonlands, extreme damp and mud in the Olympic NP, snow camping in snow storm in Crater Lake NP and a lot of other challenges in between. Still as reliable as new. Is it perfect? No... but so far as good as it gets for the investment. I give it 4.5 stars - half reduction for the fact that the side gets pulled up at the bottom when the top cross-pole is in use (I usually don't put it in) and well, the weight is great but like all tents of this size, it "gets noticeably heavier" every dozen miles day during a 10-day hike, if you know what I mean:) Anyone who mentioned that it gets ripped easily or the zippers get stuck easily are either bots of have a lot of outdoor practicing to do. By the way, the color not only looks cool but also helps to spot the tent when you're hiking back to your camp in the middle of nowhere, regardless of the dominant colors of the environment. Would / will buy it again.

Solid 3 out of 5. I really appreciate the extra storage area inside for the important stuff you need to stow inside. Easy to set up and fairly durable through some small, but yet intense, hail. The downfall I believe is in the durability of the rain fly. After several uses and even an additional treatment of waterproofing, the rain fly began to absorb rain rather than repel even in a mild rain. There is a lack of ventilation too with the rain fly fully closed which causes quite a bit of condensation. But I will say that for the money, I got some good use out of it.

Good tent for price but some concerns. The floor just won't lay flat around the extended areas. Not as much ventilation as other tents. Heavier than other options. Bought on sale so a good deal but there are better options if you are paying retail price.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This tent is really super cool. I love the "cubbies" on either side, like little night stands. My partner and I bought it for the two of us despite it being a 3P, and that was our mistake, not Marmot's. We recognize now that its pack-down size is too bulky for our backpacking excursions, so we should have gotten the 2P one. The only catch for us that is likely not applicable to other people is the fact that the cubbies require stakes to function properly. Our backpacking locations cannot rely on stakes, and for this reason only are we going with another tent, which makes me so sad, because I'm obsessed with the tent layout and space.

Spent a week at 12,000 feet in this bad boy with my four dogs. Very cozy tent, and all of my gripes would easily have been remedied by going up a tier in both size and price. I’m 6’4” and cramming a Great Dane, German Shephered and two Golden Retrievers into this was over zealous but absolutely doable (and with a cot!) Like clockwork, it rained… thunderstorms with gusty winds, small hail and heavy downpours every afternoon. Snowed three nights in a row (very light and was gone by dawn but still counts!) No issue for this tent and actually the only time any moisture got in the tent was this afternoon when I was taking the fly off and hadn’t zipped the zipper to the tent itself. I added a few coats of scotch guard to the fly before I went camping, I’m sure this added to the water repelling ability but with some well place guy lines, this thing was as dry as they make ‘em! The pre bent poles and easy to follow instructions made this tent an absolute cinch to install by myself. I have always dreaded the assembly and takedown of tents however it appears things are moving into the 21st century finally and this tent is proof. Total install time out from the trunk of the Jeep to unrolling sleeping bag was less than 10 mins. In the brutal wind and the sun was setting! The Limelight 3 gets pretty stuffy once the sun is out. Nights in the 30’a with snow showers had me sleeping in every layer of my sleeping bag, in long underwear and with the dogs on top of me. Expect to wake up hot unless you find some good tree shade, I think the ventilation in this tent could be better or more versatile. Minus one star for that. Very happy with this tent and look forward to many more trips in it.
