Finally a quality down coat that fits!

Bought this coat for a sailing trip to Antarctica - kept me toasty warm in 70knt wind without a wind breaker. Highly recommend for anyone looking to add an insulating layer. I also stayed warm as dry when putting foul-weather sailing gear over top. Coat is long enough to keep your hips and bum warm too!! This is the first quality down coat I've been able to buy due to exclusive sizing - Thank you OR for realizing ALL shapes and sizes recreate and being a first Technical gear supplier to provide expanded sizing!! Bring on the pants!!

Love it as my Goes-over-everything puffy

I love this puffy! I was specifically looking for something sized a bit bigger to wore over my other jackets. I normally wear an XS but as an outer layer I'd say the small I purchased wears as a medium. It's so warm and I love the color. I'm giving it four stars only because I wish it had a zippered chest exterior pocket.

Too big on top; too small on the bottom

Like another reviewer stated, this jacket is too small in the hips. I'm not sure I'll be able to keep it. The XL, my usual size, would be ok except for the unusually long arms. They go past my hands and I'm 5'10"!!! The chest and waist are too large. However, the hips on the XL are perfect. If I go down to a L, the arms are waist are just right, but the hips are tight. If the fit was better it would be the perfect jacket. For reference, I'm a tall 14.

Excellent Jacket For Extreme Cold

I live in a city that experiences extreme cold -30º C Temp., -45º C with wind chill. This has been the best jacket ever! It is light weight, wind proof and I love that it has a longer back to cover my bottom. I am thoroughly pleased with my purchase. Plus, I have gotten several compliments on the colour and the style! I would normally take an XL in Outdoor Research gear, but purchased the XXL to allow for an extra layers like a fleece sweater. The XL would have been a better fit, but I am glad to have the extra room and it doesn't look too large. Thanks for making such a high quality product!

Stayed warm at 10,000 ft!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I wore this jacket for a summit of Mt Baker (10,781 ft) in late June. Style and color are great, and stayed warm all the way to the top! The bungee at the waist and hood are great to keep it snug. Only wish is there would be a chest zip pocket and bungee at the bottom to keep tighter around the hips.

Exactly the warm coat I needed!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have the Coldfront Down Jacket, which is the bomber-style version of this coat (without a hood), and I always receive compliments when I wear it. It was my go-to jacket for cold days, and also the puff I stowed in my pack to pull on whenever I stop on a hike or climb, as I am prone to getting chilled right away. When I reached the top of the South Sister in June and was met with 40+ mph wind gusts, everything covered by my Coldfront jacket was warm, but I wished I had some coverage for my head (a wool hat was not enough). I ordered the Coldfront Down Hoodie the next day, and it did not disappoint -- provides the exact warmth I was looking for and is still light/packable enough for me to stow in my 25L day pack. Love the Coldfront line, and cannot recommend this jacket highly enough for someone looking for a warm puff with a hood! Also, I normally order from other brands in a size S, but am typically a size XS in OR. I went with XS and still have enough room if I wanted to layer under this coat.

Great fit and I love the inner liner in the sleeves! Super warm but lightweight, and I don’t look like a giant black marshmallow.

Women's Coldfront Down Hoody Review

I bought this jacket for casual wear for cold winter days (down to -30). It fit the bill as it is very warm. I initially bought a L as that is my normal size but it was too big so exchanged it for a medium. The medium fits great and is shaped so still has room in the hips. The length is great, lands just below the hips. The hood fits well and I like that the zipper comes up high on the neck. This coat would be too bulky to layer under a Gortex shell so I won't use it for skiing but will use it for other winter activities. The exchange process was very easy.

Thank you SO much for expanding your size range!

First of all THANK YOU for cutting this so it can fit layers under it! For a while there, "athletic wear" was cut so trim you couldn't even fit a light sweater under it. Second, this is a nice, solid, OR piece. I live at latitude 65, and find this an excellent jacket on its own from about +20F to about -10. I use it for various applications in day-to-day, fatbiking, winter hiking and cabining, and skiing, depending on the day and where in the layer system this falls. Super comfy, arms are long enough, shoulders don't bind, I'm into it, two thumbs up.

Great fit

I've been looking for a new black puffer coat for a year now. I'm 5'2" and 110 lbs, so it's hard to find the right fit. Most XS small coats are too tight and most S coats are too big. The XS in this coat fits perfectly and I like that you can cinch the back if you need to. I also like the generous hood which can easily fit over a hat, plus the inside pockets. Finally, someone got the basic puffer coat design and fit right!
