Started off great. Did 40 miles in these over mountain ranges. But just last week, on day 2 of a 3 day hike through the Grand Tetons, the soles busted off on both shoes. Clearly a quality check mistake. I had to duct tape and use rope to keep the soles on for the rest of my 35 mile hike up and down mountains. Horrible. Never again. Checks over Stripes.
I wore these for a camping trip, a few hikes, and visiting friends in different city. Overall, not the worst shoes I've worn but they're not great. The laces are a little thin so they dig into my feet sometimes and I had to loosen them especially on my hikes. The soles of the shoes are thick enough where I didn't feel too many bumps on the trail but they have no give so my feet got sore pretty quick. Finally, the worst feature which originally attracted me is the shape of the shoe around the ankle. It is pretty low cut so I thought it'd give me more breathing room and flexibility there but my ankle kept rubbing up/hitting against the shoe (towards the front of the cut around the ankle). Didn't cause a blister but it was irritating despite wearing my double layered hiking socks. I experienced little to none of these problems on regular walks, just on my hikes where it mattered when I didn't want to bring bulky boots on my trip. These shoes are more fashionable than they are practical on the trail.
These shoes are so fun and fashionable, I really wanted to love them, but didn’t they quite work for me. These shoes feel like they are half-way between a running shoe and hiking boot, but didn’t quite work for either activity for me. The sole is very stuff and has large lugs for grip and traction, but the rest of the shoe is somewhat sloppy and there is little ankle support. For walking or running I would prefer a shoe that is lighter weight and has a slightly less rigid sole (so you can roll your foot a bit as you walk/run) but for a hiking shoe I would like something that has more ankle support and is less roomy overall. When I was hiking in these shoes, I felt like I was clomping around because the footbed is so large and rigid. The upside of the rigid sole is that it seems like it would be hard to role your ankle in these shoes because of the stiff and large bottom sole. Some folks might like very stuff soled shoes, but it didn’t really work for me. The bottom line is that these shoes look great and are a very fun piece, but might not be the most functional hiking shoes if that’s what you’re looking for. I think that they would fill a similar niche to a trail running shoe (used for hiking) but are nowhere near as well designed for use on trails. Also, I would suggest sizing down on these. I got my normal size (on the small end of what I’m actually measured at) and they felt a bit large and sloppy, especially in the toe box.
Yosemite: 17 miles round trip hike to 'Half Dome' and up the cables- started at 6am and ended at 7pm. Very roughy terrain, strenuous hike. My Terrex made me feel safe and confident. They have excellent grip and handling. I had no blisters, no falls (due to their amazing traction) and they made my journey very pleasant one. I usually wear running shoes 1/2 bigger than my usual, and it was hard for me to figure out the fit on these. The sizes and fit felt different depending on the color (specially the with)... but all in all- I would highly recommend these for long/short hikes or even trail runs.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This shoe has great stability and grip. The sole is extremely hard. I almost returned the shoes before I put in my own inserts. Once I had my inserts in the sho was perfect. This is a very high quality shoe for hiking. It’s very stable and sturdy. I strongly recommend customizing it to make it feel perfect on your foot. This is an amazing tool. It could come equipped with better arch support and a little cushion. If you are a big hardcore hiker looking to explore outside with a shoe you can trust these are it. The rubber is sticky, the tread is amazing. I anticipate having these shoes for years and years. They are built very tough.
Bought this in advance of my May 2023 Speyside walk to celebrate my 70th birthday. I wore them travelling to Malaysia, Danang Vietnam and Hokkaido January and February in order to break them in ready for my Scottish long trek. The shoes were light comfortable and sturdy. Moreover it looks fashionable unlike the conventional walking shoes. It endured the torrential downpour of rain in Danang and the heavy snow fall in Hokkaido keeping my feet warm and dry despite the challenging weather conditions. I can’t wait to experience my Speyside walk in May. The adventure might not be a piece of cake but I know with this pair of shoes on my feet I’ll be able to take on any challenges on the way!! Best decision ever to buy this pair of shoes.
I've purchased the women's Terrex Swift GTX hiking shoes every year for the last 4 years. These were the perfect hiking shoes. I purchased the R3 and I even sized down 1/2 size based on reviews saying these shoes fit big. That was an understatement. What were you thinking Adidas? If it ain't broke don't fix it. Did you change your product design team or something over the last year? Bring back the Swift R2 please! Luckily I found an old inventory pair of the R2s online which will get me through for another year, but if the R3 is an indication of where Adidas is going with the Terrex Swift line, you'll have lost a loyal customer for the future.
These shoes are a God send. I got them for walking the dogs in the damp , soggy , mucky Scottish weather. They are absolutely amazing. So comfortable and keep my feet warm and dry no matter how wet it is. They also have amazing grip so no more slipping on to my backside climbing up or down mucky hills, and great in rough terrain too! Cant praise them enough! Wore mole skin in my heels for the first few wears but they broke in pretty quickly! The only thing I will say is , it took me 3 goes to get the right size. I ended up needing to go a full size up as they are really small made, but other than that, they are amazing! Wish I had got 2 pairs as they are now sold out!
I found these shoes very uncomfortable for walking. Was going to give it time and grin and bear it as i liked the style and thought perhaps they would ease in. However, I then walked after light rain in long grass only to find that a small crack had appeared on the side of the toe which clearly shoes a problem in the fabric/design. This is within less than a month of receiving them. Uncomfortable and not waterproof. Avoid.
My feet are slightly wide and puffy and my usual size fits, in other words they are a half size too big. I find these shoes very supportive, they hold your heel in place. This could be a good thing or a bad thing for people who don’t like any stiffness in the back of their shoe. The blue is very pretty. I wish they didn’t have the coral reflective color but I got them anyway.
