The North Face  McMurdo Down Parka - Men's

I used this parka for a trip to Mongolia in January the weather it got below -20 most of the time I was in county. this parka performance was prefect it keep me work and endured the elements f freezing temperatures and wind.

The jacket was oversized, even after I ordered one size down . There were no waist cinch cords which lets the cold air in. The pockets were completely unlined, I'd expect some fleece lining atleast for an expensive jacket. The hood is not removable, even though the fur edging on the hood was. It makes a lot of noise when moving around, it is the 600D material as per my understanding. Plenty pockets though. Six outside and one inside. I plan on returning it, had high hopes for it based on reviews but it won't suit my needs. Also, the reviews are pulled from NF website so the reviews are not exclusively written by REI customers.

The day I bought my McMurdo Parka I sat down by the Clark Fork River on a brisk late afternoon and I stayed toasty warm until the blue light of evening was upon me. Wonderful, it allows me to stay out in Nature longer and warmer.

I just got home from a trip to northern Michigan where the temp was in the low teens and negatives. We were out snow machining all day long. This coat, paired with a Patagonia better sweater was perfect for the job. I was toasty all day long and even had to unzip it when we stopped. At 100+ mph and -5° no wind worked it’s way through at all. Only downside I found is that the removable fur hood piece comes off a little too easily. Would be much better if it had a zipper. This was an excellent choice. I’ve had many coats and none can even compare to this one. Nice durable material on the outside and warm lighter material on the inside.

I’ve never owned a parka, but have owned multiple alpine level winter jackets that have kept me warm with layering in frigid outdoor pursuits. I bought this jacket to wear around town, to work and on my walks with my pup. Wow!!!!!! Warmth level is amazing. Threw on a tshirt, thermal bottoms, jeans and this coat for the first test drive in windy 10 degree weather…..i felt incredibly warm. The style isn’t exactly what I would say is my go to….and I would probably remove the fur most days….but boy was I toasty. I’m almost excited for cold days just to wear this jacket. My only reservation: maybe I should have purchased navy instead of black. Get it for the north!

I have one of these and love it for winter in the Rockies. It is a tough outer shell for any and all storm weather, but is not quite as well insulated as a North Face Nuptse and other really poofy down jackets. So, I usually end up having to add a fleece underneath for 10 degree F or lower days (which is better anyway, because... layer system!) The McMurdo is not light or compressible though, so don't plan to pack it in a bag, unless you really are going to the South Pole or something. The hood works well and is very cozy.

This may be a good fit for some, but not for me. Too wide below the waist for my chest size so a cold draft would come up the coat with any wind, and there is not drawstring to adjust this. So on a 27F day with some breeze and minor gusts walking the dog I was a bit sweaty at my chest and cold at the waist. If it fits your body shape, great. But if not you can't adjust it. Wanted this to be it, but was disappointed.

Couldn't be more pleased. Very well made and warm. I usually wear a size large, but based on other reviews saying to size down I did to a medium, and it fits perfectly. The fake fur looks very nice. Many usable pockets and well insulated. Best jacket I have owned.

I haven't used mine yet, but my wife has. She loved how warm it was and the wind didnt get through on the elbows as other warm coats do. We ride snowmobiles all over alaska tundras just below the arctic circle. Some days are 40 below wind chills and need something that will beat the cold. This sure does the trick. As others have said, it does run a little roomy, but that works for the extra clothing we use under.

Very happy with my parka so far. I wore it camping in MN last weekend when the temps dropped to -7 degrees F. It kept me warm all evening and in the morning as we broke camp. It runs a bit big (I have the XXL), but that was great as it allows me to layer up under the parka. I normally don't wear hoods, but this one is pretty comfortable and the "fur" trim didn't bother me at all. Plus, the trim is removable. It also did a great job keeping the wind off me. I'd highly recommend this parka for cold weather use!
