The legs deserve to be be cozy, too. These are perfect for staying up at the summit for a meal, belaying without shivering, and high alpine stargazing in comfort. Any where it gets cold, these should be your sidekick.
These pants are a freakin game-changer for cold-weather cragging and bouldering, or, I presume, for commutes around town during mid-western or east-coast winters! They're unbelievably warm and comfy, and stylish, too! I never leave home without them from October-May. They're perfect for staying warm in between tries on your project, or long belays at shaded, cold crags. They weigh next to nothing and take up very little space in my backpack, so, they're a no-brainer. Also, they're very effective for making everyone else at the crag jealous of your warmth and style. They're like a warm hug for your legs!
I just bought a new pair of these for 50% of marked coat. What a deal! Couldn’t afford them otherwise. There was only one pair left, a size XL. I normally wear a size L but have been looking for a pair of down pants at an affordable price I decided to try them on and they fit perfectly. So for those people complaining about tight fit and crotch splitting I sugyyou get a pair one size larger than your normal size. Mine weighted in at 8.9 oz so even lighter than advertised. Got the green surplus (who comes up with color names) and love them. Now I’m definitely ready for some back woods winter camping.
These pants and jacket weigh literally nothing, take up nearly no room packed yet provide the highest impact in warmth. Super light, super soft, they feel amazing as any layer and hope they never change. I would like to see a double layer on the knees and the bottom as I think the shell is too fragile to withstand any abrasion but that shell is what makes these so nice. ZIpper is a bit difficult for some, not all and size seems to be about average if not on the slim side which you want for a thermal. I just wish they were half the price.
There are 2 zipper pulls on the fly. It appears the lower pull is installed upside down. I confirmed with a sales associate in your Portland store that the pants he has on the shelf are the same way. If you pull both pulls to the top, then move the lower pull all the way down, then when moving the upper pull down; the zipper is feeding into the pull the wrong direction and the zipper teeth 'grind' with resistance as you do this. It seems this design will lead to premature zipper failure. Also, even if the lower pull is left in the down position, there is always a small unzipped portion of the zipper, just above it, that allows the zipper to come unzipped easily (opening the fly from the bottom, upwards). Am I missing something here??? Is there a reason your designers designed it this way? Please let me know about this and whether there is a fix for it. Thanks! (Note the pants are the version with the zippered lower legs)
I got these to serve as an insulation layer under ski shell pants. Used them in Colorado for the first time and in Mid-20 degree weather was perfect to keep warm. By the afternoon it got much warmer and was easily packed into the sack and stored in my backpack. The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is because I am a little concerned about the longevity quality. I say this because I wore a very thing black base layer of smart wool and when I finally took the Whispers off, I noticed small pieces of down stuck to the base layer leading me to believe there was a bit of shedding. It was the first time I wore them so we will see if it continues in the future.
I bought the black last year and then the green and maroon this year… I don’t take them off. They somehow are perfectly comfortable all day, inside a 68 degree house… on the flip side, if it time to go out and shovel snow or hook up the generator they keep more warm and able to move with ease. I even wear them for day to day… going to the grocery store, out and about -wore them to poker the other night and had two grown men buy them while at the table. Buy them, you won’t regret it. You don’t need to be camping in the deep woods and climbing mountains to enjoy the benefits of these gems. I am 180 lbs, 32 inch waist, 5’11”, athletic sized legs and the M fit perfectly.
I purchased these with the thought that they will be a bit warmer than my current poly fill insulated pants. However, I have not used them for skiing or snowshoeing yet. I like the quality and the long length of the ankle zippers as that helps to put them on more easily. Originally I purchased the small with with short inseam but found them just a bit too snug all over and restricting so I exchanged them for the medium which is just right. For jeans and most pants my waist is 32”. I went with the short version as I will be wearing these under snow pants and don’t want extra material bunching up at the bottom. Looking forward to staying a bit warmer on the chairlift this winter!
The Ghost Whisperer pants are the best! Super light, warm when necessary but not too warm. Tapered modern fit but just loose enough to wear MH base layers under. They pack down to the size of your fist. The added lower leg zipper in version 2.0 of this pant is awesome- I had the seamstress add zippers to the first model- and wrote MH about it- they listened! This pant is an absolute core essential part of my apparel on scouting trips and life as a outdoor industry professional. I’m 5’8” 155 athletic build and the Medium Short is perfect! Only complaint? MORE COLORS PLEASE- I have them all! Thanks MH- the Ghost Whisperer line is unbeatable and MH is the best apparel company in the biz!
The pants themselves appear very nice and fit well. The issue I had was with the stitching after one use that included a short walk. The stitching on the front crotch seam began to unravel. After two uses, I have a large hole in the front crotch area, where the material is sewn together. I am not sure if I got a defective product but I am disappointed with the quality for the price so far.
