They don’t ride up!!
I’m very picky about my running shorts. I’ve never worn tight ones because I always find they either ride up on my legs, or, they have too much elastic around the thighs and they rub or chafe. I wore these for an 18 mile run and after about 2 miles I noticed they shifted ever so slightly up my legs, but then settled in to their “place” and didn’t ride up anymore for the rest of the run. Since then, they haven’t budged on any of my runs! Love the pocket placement, phone can slide into the side one and it’s tight enough for it to not shift or bother me. Comfortable and wide waistband that comes up a bit higher. Big fan and will be ordering my second pair! I’m 5’2 and 112 lbs, my thighs are average-larger size from years of soccer! I got a small and they fit great but might go XS for my second pair. Hopefully that’s helpful!

Not worth it
I would guess that these do not cost more than $2 to make. There is nothing that is going to keep the shorts from riding up as soon as you start running so that is exactly what is going to happen even if you size up. If you don't want to pull your shorts down every mile of your run, I wouldn't recommend these.

best spandex shorts I’ve ever owned

I was on the fence about these, but went to my local store to see them. They are thick and flattering. I am a size 28/6 with thick thighs, and all my other spandex running shorts ride up on my thighs. The REI staff member spoke very highly of this brand and said the price was worth it because of the reliability of the products and the brand’s environmental goals. I bought them and took them home. I went for a run tonight and LOVE THEM. They are a perfect fit. The high rise squeezes my tummy in and they didn’t ride up on my thighs at all. They have a million pockets and pass the squat test. Well worth the money!

Best Shorts Ever

In preparation for running my first marathon, I was looking for a means of storage for nutrition, keys, ID, and a credit card. No type of belt worked for me since they would bounce around between my hips and waist. BUT THOSE SIDE HIP POCKETS on the sprinter shorts are a GAME CHANGER. I could do and entire HIIT workout circuit with stuffed pockets and not only would nothing budge, but I hardly noticed anything in my pockets at all! So if you are a small person and the flip belts are still too loose around the waist, definitely consider these shorts.

Like cycling shorts but not

These fit tightly like cycling shorts, almost too tight (bit of a sausage leg situation, but I carry my weight in my thighs). Regardless, I like them and their pockets-o-plenty. I definitely recommend trying them on at least if you’re looking for a tight running or hiking short. I’m 5’8” 142# and got size medium.

Perfect shorts

I'm a big fan of these shorts. Ran in them while training and then during the NYC marathon last year and months later they still look at fit great. The multiple pockets are excellent for storing all the little odds and ends for long runs -- keys, tissues, gels, phone, cards. And the deep pockets actually even hold a decent size water bottle. Wish REI had these in more colors. They are really all I want to run in.

Super high rise; better for taller people

I wanted tight shorts with pockets for long distance runs. I chose these, a pair from Salomon and a pair from Brooks; I'm not a fan of the athleisure brands that have an exaggerated hourglass shape for bottoms. I'm just over 5' and usually an xs or s. I got the small in these, and they fit well except the rise is super high compared to the others. (It comes up well over my belly button and is close to covering my lowest rib or two). I haven't tried to load the waistband pockets yet while running because I'm afraid it'll be annoying for a long run.

actually built to stay put on a woman's body

I have a slender hourglass body type but I do got some booty. my lower half is for sure curvier than my upper half. so spandex and shorts tend to ride up my thighs or rub in the groin. I've run in these several times for several miles each time, they do not ride up. The waistband stays put. My keys stay in the lil back pocket, my smartphone fits in the side pocket and does not ever feel like it's going to fall out. They are comfortable and made with high quality sturdy material. Can not recommend enough!

Shorts for curvy women (hard to find at REI)

I have big hips. At my leanest (best shape of my life, stomach lean type of lean), I’m 42 inches at my hips, and at my heaviest, I was 48-9 inches I’m currently 45-46 inches and still STRUGGLE to find shorts at REI that function for hiking.I’ve seen outdoorsy brands in the past couple years start making larger sizes to try to accommodate curve/plus (all body shapes like going outside) but so many brands (this happens beyond outdoorsy) just add on inches to the clothing item. They don’t actually design for the curvier bodies. So what happens is sure, it fits my hips, but it looks otherwise terrible. Very not flattering. Obviously all bodies are different but regardless of the shape various, curvier bodied women still complain. So that leads me to this review: I know these shorts only go up to an XL (this brand should extend this sizing!). But what it does WELL is that it was built for a curvy body (hips, butt) and gives a lot of stretch so I’m sure it still looks nice on straighter bodies. Because of the stretch, it fits my hips and glutes and also hugs tight to my thighs (not just “added inches so this is weirdly loose” I’m going to test this out on a 5 day backpacking trip. But it also works well for its intended purpose (running haha)

They’re a win!

Love the level of compression on these shorts and the fact that there are pockets. Don’t ride up a lot like some other shorts of this variety. Wide waistband is comfortable around my waist.
