Hydration for a plus sized thirst. Finally a day pack that fits! Kudos to Gregory for recognizing that big people hike too. My only issue with this pack is that the revolutionary bladder system comes with a standard length hose which is too short if you are truly plus sized. Easy fix is to purchase the quick connect hose and swap out the longer hose or add the needed length. Plus sized packs should come standard with the longer length hose or at least should mention this shortfall. (Photo with lengthened hose. Now perfect.)
Ordered Sunday, received Thursday, test hike Friday. I am a large fella. 5'11 300lbs, broad shoulders broad chest. This plus sized pack is easily the most comfortable pack I've ever used. The waste belt is so large that I could easily wear a hoodie and a coat and still have room. The shoulder straps fit perfectly. I love the contoured shape. I would very highly recommend this to any other large sized fella struggling to find a day pack that fits well.
I've gotten used to having pain in my neck and shoulders after a long hike, but never considered that my broad chest had anything to do with it. I have an assortment of backpacks from different companies, in different capacities, and the pain is always the same no matter how efficiently they're packed. I wasn't in the market for a new one, but I found out Gregory had a line of plus size bags that claimed to address this issue. I decided to treat myself and I sure am glad I did! I could tell the difference right out of the box, but the true test would come with my next winter hike up Mt. Washington. Carrying just under 15 lbs. and wearing my coat, it was like I didn't have anything on my back. When I finished, I had NO neck or shoulder pain. As for features, it had just the right amount of space for my emergency gear, water, and layers. The ice axe loop and stay are great, and the waist belt pouches were easier to access thanks to being slightly more forward than those on my other packs. Shortly thereafter I ordered the Arrio Plus Size for use in the summer. I'll give that one its own review. I'm 5'10 and, at that time, was 285lbs. I'm down to 235 now and the pack still fits amazingly.
Perfect size for big guys. I've got the big shoulders and somewhat of a gut but i enjoy hiking. the problem before was finding a light bag with hydration to use. I got this in the mail and next day used it. what a difference. i can clip chest and waist belt with extra slack to use, not heavy at all with the 3 liters of water and some supplies. I like the color, you can find me on a trail from a distance. i would be using this bag for the long haul.
I am on the cusp between packs and I have purchased a normal size Citro and a plus size. I am glad I purchased the plus size. The waist belt alone makes the purchase worthwhile. With the smaller size, I was unable to fully take advantage of the waist belt pockets, for the opening and closing of the pockets were a bit more difficult. The plus size has mad it so easy and comfortable to stash my oddities(knife/headlamp/extra mask”thanks COVID”/energy bar). The best thing is now I use the stash pockets. Awesome. Other than that, the shoulder straps fit me about the same on both packs; with the plus size pack’s straps giving me a bit more long haul comfort. If you are on the cusp between sizes, go with the larger plus size pack. You will be happy that you did.
I had read a review talking about how the Citro was a great bag, but the review kept mentioning that it was a little difficult for the user because they were larger built. As I too am a larger person I decided the best bet was to get the plus size and I couldn't have been happier with my decision. My significant other and I are new to hiking but enjoy it a lot and while I wasn't sure that I needed the 30, the cinch down straps make it just as useful to me as the 24. The only 'issue' I have is that the hydration hose does not reach to the magnet on the left strap. I solved this issue by just sliding it through the loop on the right strap where it hangs in an easy to reach place. Otherwise this bag is performing flawlessly for my purposes and I would recommend it to anyone over 6 foot and 250 plus pounds.
Thanks for taking Gregory on your adventures. We love that you love your pack!
Bought recently. The extra length on the hip belt (not just the straps) is great, but I wish they made a S/M and M/L. This bag is too small for tall torsos (I'm 6'4 and it feels short). The shoulder straps are a bit flimsy and the "aeromesh" or whatever they're calling it does not separate your back from the bag nearly as well as some alternate name brands. Overall it's good, but could be better particularly for the price (include a rainfly!).
Have only used it once, but was pretty perfect so far. I am a bigger guy and this bigger fit bag actually put the hip part on my hips. And the hip belt actually fit. So that was all very nice. On the trail easy access to the drink without stopping was helpful to keep me hydrated. Had enough room for snacks even with the full bladder. The hip pocket is very snug for a bigger smartphone, but not a total surprise as they have grown on size alot.
Haven't gotten the chance to use it much yet, but really in love with this bag so far. Perfect for day hikes, all my essentials fit perfectly and the hydration portion is excellent. It's comfortable, has great support, and actually FITS my body. The straps, hip belt, and everything fit great and are such a huge improvement over my past day packs. So happy they offer bags for bigger bodies now!
As a fat person it's super hard to find outdoor gear that works with my body. I had been using a hydration pack that was too small for me for over 5 years. Investing in this bag has been such a blessing. My lower back is very happy with the way that the weight is distributed. I barely felt the bag on me. I am extremely grateful to have a product that is designed with my body type in mind.
