ALPS Mountaineering  Acropolis 3 Tent

I wanted a medium sized tent, with a removeable rainfly for a camping trip. This tent says it is a "backpacking tent" but I would NEVER take it on the trail. However, it can be a great choice for a medium sized car camping trip. I did make a few modifications that made it work better for me. I imagine most people would want to do the same. You should consider the following: 1. The guy lines/tie outs were HORRIBLE! I replaced them and they are much better. 2. The included tent stakes are weak and will bend if not in soft soil. I just used the MSR groundhogs I had for my backpacking set up. 3. It needs a foot print, and I had to patch the bathtub floor by the second night. I bought a cheap tarp and it worked well.

We used this for camping when our rooftop tent wasnt permitted at El Capitan Beach (freeway traffic was horrible at night, dont camp here unless u have ear plugs). Compared to our buddys' 4 man tents this was compact and still felt roomy enough for my wife and i. Easy to assemble and pack down. I'm happy with it.

I do solo car camping and was looking for a tent with a little more elbow room than my 2 man tent. It is hard to find something a little bigger but not too big and still easy for one person to set up. I camped 3 nights so far. 1st 2 nights were calm and not too chilly. 3rd night was pretty windy and not a good experience in this tent. This tent good for when it isn't too cold and will not be windy. There is so much mesh and the rainfly does not come down as far as some tents so you aren't that protected from cool air and wind. The guyline tiedowns are too low to properly protect the tent/poles in windy conditions. The tent flapping made it very hard to sleep. The wind picked up even more as I was taking it down and did push in a pole but luckily it did not break. (I used my 2-man tent the next night which is excellent in the wind.) I don't like the set up of the vestibules/entrance. Most tents seem to be doing this lately but you only have "half" access to the doorway. Both flaps have a stake down loop so you have to figure out which one will let you use the door. The screen and rainfly tended to fall into the tent and I would step on them as I exit. I do like that it is mostly square rather the rectangle. It is nice to set up to sleep in either direction if not level and I often can't tell until I lay down which angle is best. I would prefer it to be just a bit shorter. I don't need it that tall and it would be easier to reach the middle for set up and help withstand winds better. If I did not get this on the outlet and sale coupon I would likely return it. As is I will probably keep it and just use it for warmer weather in calm conditions. It does pack down fairly compact so it is easy to pack 2 tents and decide at camp which one to use.

The pole broke during my 1st use and shot through the rain fly. Wind was only gusting around 30 mph. Super bummed about this tent.

I’ve spent over 2,000 days and nights in the woods and the Acropolis tent by Alps Mountaineering is by far the easiest tent that I have ever set up.

Purchased for my son to use for monthly Boy Scout campouts. Pitches easily, even for 1 person. Stuff sack is a little cumbersome when trying to stow tent but overall doesn’t detract from usability.

This is a beautiful tent, but it leaked at the top my first night out. I returned it.
