Awesome camping blankets
These blanket are a nice alternative to sleeping bag camping. The sleep system comes with a fitted sheet, regular sheet, and puffy blanket that fit perfectly on the Camp Dreamer Double Self-Inflating Deluxe Bed. However, I'd guess that they'd fit most queen size mattresses. The fitted sheet has little clips that you can hook the regular sheet and puffy blanket into, to keep the blankets centered and prevent one person from hogging the covers. (I'm starting to think I need this feature for the blankets on my real bed!) It didn't get very cold while I was camping, so I haven't used the hood system yet. It seems like the blankets breath well, as I was very comfortable using the blankets at 50 degrees F. I like the duffle bag provided for carrying the sleep system, it's easy to fit the blankets in, but doesn't feel too big.
Bag, blankets, why not both?
Nice blend of the comfort of blankets on a camping trip with the warmth of a sleeping bag. The connectors between the sheets and blanket really do keep everything together like a sleeping bag would. But in the Texas heat, it's nice they can be undone so let a draft in. Haven't used the hood yet because of said heat, so can't attest to that. Backs down much smaller than my normal laundry basket of blankets, so that's a plus. Not necessary for a good camping trip, but sure is a nice plus.
A near perfect car camping sleep system
Up until now, my partner and I have always used our backpacking sleeping bags/pads when car camping but no longer, this sleep system is pretty amazing and wonderfully comfortable. At first glance, the sheets seemed pretty low thread count compared to what we have at home but they're not scratchy at all and I found that they breath well, as a result, which prevents the clammy sweaty feeling when it is too warm out. The entire kit is machine washable (except for the storage bag), which is a huge plus over delicate down bags too. REI has designed a few clever features into this sleep system that we really appreciated in use. The fitted sheet, flat sheet, and the quilt all attach to each other using a tab & loop system, one set of tabs in the bottom corners and another set at about thigh height. There is an additional loop at the center-top of the quilt that hooks into a tab on the hood, so if you have a partner that likes to rotisserie while sleeping you won’t find yourself fighting to steal back the covers. If you expect it to get colder at night the quilt also has a draw cord at the foot that cinches it around the foot of the sleeping pad to cut down on drafts. The hood is a nice touch too. It isn’t deep enough to really cover your head when using standard sized pillows (which if you’re car camping, why not bring your favorite pillow?) but it’ll keep the top of your head nice and toasty with smaller camp pillows. Even with larger pillows though, it still does do a really nice job of keeping your pillow in place. Maybe I’m just too active of a sleeper, but with other designs my pillow always slides off my pad above my head and onto the tent floor at least once a night. The hood locks the pillow right where I want it though. No product is ever perfect though and there is one thing I’d love to see refined if/when there is a new version. It is minor, but that the loop & tab attachments are relatively loose and we would find random ones that had come undone in our sleep. Not the end of the world, as this isn’t intended for really cold climates where drafts are a big issue, but it would be nice to have them be a little more secure. Having loops at all four corners of the quilt, with the thigh-level loops moved up to the center of the quilt, would allow you to push into the lower temperatures without drafts too (as would a slightly deeper hood). All in all though, we really like it and the complaints are very minor. I wouldn’t take it below freezing, but I see us using it for all our 3 season car camping for the foreseeable future.
Great sleep system
I enjoy this sleep system. PROS: stays in place on the mattress Warm, comfortable, truly love the quilt Great for car camping or overnight guest. CONS: Toggles that hold everything in place can be tedious to hook, I slept better not latching the toggles at the feet. I’m not sure I was using the “pillow” area correctly.
Who would have thought?
Who would have thought that you could improve sheets. Well, the REI dream sleep system did. The material are fantastic, durable but luxurious all at the same time. The sheets let you breath and the top quilt will keep you very warm but cool on the outside if you like the cold side of the pillow kinda thing. The good built in to the top sheet is genius. It prevents your pillow from falling off the air mattress or you can slide your head into it to block the light or keep warmer. I used this in the back of my truck and visiting friends. It all comes in a nice bag so it’s easy to travel with!
Quality going downhill
Had the kingdom tent/bedding/mattress in 2018 and went with Wonderland this year. All products constructed with less quality and lower grade fabric with less throughtful design. This sheet set is dramatically less comfortable than the kingdom. The REI brand camp dreamer mattress is also much less comfortable than the kingdom. I would like to repurchase the kingdom mattress, but it is one inch too thick for this sheet set. Why, REI, do you make your products incompatible? Sorry to see quality going down. I'll probably use this, as well as the mattress I'm stuck with. Also, no raised double cot option.
Well Thought Out
This is a well-thought-out system we had hoped to test while camping... long story short we've been testing it as a quarantine bed option. The tether system is very handy because we all know how sheets do with normal setups... they end up on the tent floor very quickly. The fit is very good when using the REI mattress (super comfy). I am surprised at some thinking this is for backpacking. This is a car camping (or guest bed) item only. I took away one star because I can see this setup being a bit drafty in cold weather. Video linked for a better explanation of the entire set (mattress included)
Good for the family!
I got this about 3 anniversary sales ago, and let me tell you. We love it! We use it for when we join the family in the 5th wheel as well as in a tent. It is so comfy! The only thing I wish was that the blanket was a little longer as it goes up to you armpits so you have to hunker down inside. We even fit our little toddler in the middle of us and she stays cozy as well. We had a cousin camp out and 4 little kids under 4 slept on this. It is so low to the ground so I wasn't worried about anyone falling off.
Not An Ideal Sleep “System”
I bought this after searching for less traditional sleep systems when we car camp. I was tired of lugging the big double sleeping bag and air mattress out. I am also the smaller of the duo that shares a bag. How often when camping do you sleep on truly flat ground? Yeah, same here lol. I was tired of ending up on the zipper with the sleeping bag shifted from gravity and the larger of the duo shifting. Unfortunately, this sleeping set was not the winning alternative. The sheets were scratchy and rough and the comforter was NOT warm at all. I would also suggest color coding the toggles or in some way marking them for easier matching. It was difficult to set up when the rain forced us all into the tent, included the pup! I am so grateful for REI’s generous return policy.
Great Option For Couples
Great option for couples who need slightly different blanket options. Love the zip-on top for pillows. Fit our queen air mattress.
