Great experience!
My wife and I used this double wide on a backpack elk adventure in the mountains of Colorado, 9K feet elevation. Spent 8 days afield. Had thermometer with us, nights were 26°-28°F. Despite the other reviews I read, we were perfectly warm and bag performance was overall satisfactory. It was lightweight, packed easily. We use this in conjunction with a Nemo Tensor ultralight, insulated sleeping pad. We had a great experience with this bag. Very happy with the purchase.
Good concept
I like what they're trying to do here, but it needs some work. The bag is big, really big. I'm 6'2, partner is 5'2 and there is room for another adult in there. Sounds great, but you end up with tons of empty space that needs to be heated. The down seems thin, almost like they need to double what's in there to be effective. The hook and loop by your head struggles to stay secured, while at your feet the zippers don't meet and leave a literal hole. All of this results in a bag that's not as warm as it should be. We used it indoors and could feel the heat escaping, there's absolutely no way this thing gets close to its rated 20F. Returned for individual mummy bags. Again, great idea but it needs some improvements.
Great for couples
I can't imagine using this with anyone who isn't my wife. There is no split between the two sides, which was fine for us. In fact, if it's nippy outside, that's even better. Then you'll have the added benefit of body warmth to keep you comfortable, although it's quite warm all on its own. But otherwise, it's a sumptuous build that I always feel happy slipping into. And it wasn't until my second trip with it that I realized there's a pocket INSIDE for something small (like a phone). I was very happy to make that discovery. Haha.
This really "made" our honeymoon!
My husband and I just returned from our honeymoon where we visited 3 National Parks over two weeks. About 4 days into the trip we realized that single sleeping bags were NOT going to work for us, we like cuddling. So between parks we stopped into REI Bozeman (pre ordered it online a few hours before) and picked this up. It was exactly what we were looking for. We love how it has a hood - we brought our full sized pillows and the hood kept both pillows from sliding around or falling off our double sleeping pad. The zipper on both sides is 100% necessary and GREAT for when he or I had to get out of the sleeping bag. It's also LONG and at 5'9" and 6'2" - we needed the length. It's lightweight but warm, and while I thought the color was kind of horrendous (I ordered it anyways) it's actually growing on me :) A MUST for all marrieds and couples who go camping together. This will serve us for many camping trips to come!
Great for those who enjoy cozy nights!
I would have to say that the HunkerDown is one of the best sleep bags that I've owned. It is quite warm, spacious, and the designers truly thought of everything. I like the fact that I can unzip the feet portion to let them hang outside the bag at night, while my wife can keep hers zipped up. (just like she likes it) Also, the fact that the cover portion of the bag has the ability to snap in the center, keeps me from accidently throwing the cover off of my wife in the middle of the night, if I have to get up.
Affordable Double Bag
We’ve been using this bag for two seasons now and it’s been excellent. A few points we have learned which might help potential buyers. It’s heavy, cannot be argued. It’s an affordable double bag compared to most though many bags/quilts now can be zipped together. It has double zippers so you can vent the sides for those of us who are hot sleepers. It separates easily into two pieces if needed. The bag is big enough for no hassle stuffing. For car/truck/RTT camping: Perfection Backpacking: No. It is way too heavy even if you disconnect it into two single bags. Bikepacking: Manageable. The weight even when the bag is separated into two bags is a little much. We stuff each half into 13L S2S dry bags. I would prefer to use my backpacking quilt but I don’t have veto rights so this bag will continue n our duo adventures.
Great Bag
I got this bag as a replacement for the REI Skier bag I purchased in 1974. The old bag is still great but it was at my farm when the power went out here due to an ice storm. No electricity, my HVAC doesn't work. Got pretty cold at night but I was perfectly comfortable inside this bag. Power was out from Tuesday till Monday evening.
Awesome snuggle bag
Exactly what the wife and I were looking for. Nothing more to say, keep it simple. If you enjoy snuggling with your loved one you can’t go wrong with this bag. Plenty of room to move around…
Very warm - Zipper Broke
The bag itself is very warm and roomy for me and my wife. Perfect configuration for two. The problem is the zipper broke after 2 uses.
Camping Nest
We used this for a Spring trip here in the AZ Desert and it is perfect for a couple + 11lb dog... we all got to sleep in 1 place and the comfort was fantastic. This replaces bringing all the bedding needed for car camping and saves us space in our vehicle and time packing/unpacking it. Well worth the upgrade!
