Lots of room to stay warm

Let me start by stating that I do not like sleeping bags. I switched to quilts many years ago because I found sleeping bags to be restrictive. This bag is different! It has everything I need in a sleeping bag. 1. Plenty of room to move around. There is a lot of room for those who toss and turn like I do. It keeps your head warm and your pillow in place without getting a face full of mummy bag hood. 2. Plenty of warmth. This time of year it is almost to warm for the 20 degree rating. It seems like it is very true to the temperature rating. 3. Lots of neat features. I really like the extra large draft collar to keep you warm and cozy. The partial zipper on the off side makes it easy to open the top and cool off. The phone pocket on the inside is a nice bonus. Also the anti-snag strips next to the zipper are great. 4. Socially conscious. The use of bluesign materials and RDS down is great to see. 5. What it doesn't have is a lot of weight. It isn't an ultralight bag, but it is the same weight as backpacking bags from just a few years ago. In a nice compression sack this would be a decent backpacking bag if you desire more room to roam. 6. What a deal! You will be hard pressed to find a better deal on a 20 degree down bag. This is my new go to sleeping bag. I am very impressed with what REI has come up with.

Comfy, but doesn't hit the 20 degree rating.

I bought this bag last November, but just used it for the first time last weekend (early Jun). We tent camped at 7700' in SW Colorado, morning temps dropped into the mid to upper 30s the first two nights. Brrrrr, the bag didn't keep me warm. The last morning the temps were in the low 40s and I stayed warm. Bag was on a cot with a solid ground pad. I must say I was very disappointed in the performance. I use the rule of thumb to add 10 degrees to the bag rating, but it won't come close to 30 degrees (which is what I wanted). I must say, though, that I liked the feel of the bag fabric and comfort. I just wish it was warmer.

Perfect for car camping or chilly lodges

Cozy and roomy - perfect for car camping, sailing or chilly lodges. I got this specifically for using at a ski lodge that tends to be chilly at night, so I haven't tested the limits of its warmth. It's great to have freedom of movement and warmth. Thoughtful details include the small interior pocket for chapstick or cellphone addicts. Includes a small stuff sack and a bigger one for storage. Zippers and pull cords are smooth. I appreciate that it's made with recycled materials. Rescue pup approved!

Great size variations for big people!

First, I haven’t actually slept in this bag. However, since it is new on the market, I thought I’d provide my first impressions. Being 6’2”, I was worried about the sizing. A normal mummy bag is very tight on my torso and I feel a little claustrophobic, so I was intrigued with the HunderDown’s shape and size variations, with duck down. The bag isn’t in the store yet, so all I could do was order it online. I first ordered the Long Wide, but it was way too long and way too wide. Then I ordered the Long, but it was taking forever to get delivered. Then I noticed that REI’s Siesta synthetic bag has the same size variations and is in the store, so away I went to try them out. In the end, I settled on and ordered a plain old Medium bag, and it came quick! The bag is comfy and roomy for my frame, which feels great. The zippers are no-name and they aren’t the smoothest out there, but they added extra tape inside, which does a good job protecting the bag fabric. One side has a full-length zipper, while the other side has about a 14” zipper. The hood is wide, so it isn’t like a true mummy bag hood, but a pillow fits well in there and the baffles will probably keep out drafts. There is a small pocket inside, no Velcro or zipper on it though. The bag comes with two sacks, a large storage sack with mesh, and a much smaller stuff sack for on the go. Overall, I’m excited to give this bag a try!

Great for any adventure!

This is a very lightweight yet warm sleeping bag that is easy to take with you whether you car camp, backcountry camp or use it in your backyard. It comes with a spacious black net bag that is large enough to store additional gear when car camping. It also has an attached stuff sac making it easy (and super compact!) to attach to your backpack when hiking. It is nice and roomy to accommodate even the tallest of people. The bag nestles your head to keep you from losing heat on the coldest of nights but can be used as a soft pillow if that feature isn't required. A built in cord at the opening of the bag allows you to customize the fit so the bag can be cinched to keep the cold air out.

Super comfy car camping bag.

This is a REALLY comfy car camping sleeping bag. We realized our ancient backpacking bags were falling apart (zippers) and didn't want to fight with them. Saw these on sale, bought 2 (one for my wife and one for me). I can't say how much I appreciated the extra room, I've 'grown' since the old bags were bought. There is a smaller stuff sack, and if you don't mind a bit bulkier bag for backpacking, you could probably use it, but it's definitely bigger than a 25 year old bag was, though not appreciably heavier. I love the extra opening options, I love the bigger size and square toebox, and my wife found it considerably warmer. I actually used it more like a blanket than a bag, but I always sleep warm.

Buyer Beware

Ordered this sleeping bag to use for camping while on adventure bike rides. The loft for a 20 deg, bag is suspect, I think this is going to be more like a 40 deg bag at best and that's sleeping cold. Sewing on this bag is some of the worst I've seen. Just unzip it and take a look from the inside. I ordered this on line while on sale at 50% off, ($99), so that's why the 3 stars. If I paid full price I would rate it 1 star and send it back. I bought it for compress-ability as storage on a motorcycle is a major factor. My travels this coming summer are Western Colorado Mts with lows hopefully not below 50 deg so wish me luck. (Note: side sleeper so wanted a rectangular bag.)

Very happy with this bag

I just returned from a deep wilderness excursion into the Colorado Rockies. Temps at night were in the high teens most nights. This bag kept me very warm. I wore socks the first two nights of the trip while in the bag but then stopped wearing them on night 3. (of 6 total nights.) I'm a large guy, 6' 1" and 275 pounds and I was more than comfortable in the bag. I did have the zipper snag one or two times over the week, but they were not serious snags. Nothing more than I've seen in other bags. I'll be using this bag for years I hope.

Excellent sleeping bag for side sleepers

I am 195 cm (6 foot 4) and 105 kg. This sleeping bag was spacious for me and I could comfortably turn during the night. I used the sleeping bag at Sequoia and Kings Canyon NP, Bass Lake and San Simeon. None of these sites were extremely cold, but the first night in Sequoia NP was just above freezing and I felt comfortably warm. I am very happy I chose this bag rather than one of the mummy bags.

Definitely NOT a 20* bag.

Bought a couple of these hoping the square build and the 20 degree rating would be perfect. Spent a weekend in Moab in a nice tent with an excellent pad, and had a 37* night and a 38* night. Froze in the bag. Nowhere near accurate on the temperature rating. The bag's insulation also felt thin and inadequate - like there needed to be 50% more fill to realistically work at the rated temperature. Disappointing product, but REI's service (as always) was great and they took the return without issue.
