One [EDC] Knife to Rule Them All
I immediately felt how solid this knife felt when I first held it. Absolutely thick blade and super comfy G-10 scales. I've been trying to downsize my backpacking and EDC knives and this is my heftiest foldable. The Mini Adamas is very comparable to the Spyderco Paramilitary 2 and Benchmade Bugout as far as general length but the handle and blade is much thicker.
Beefy blade
Great knife for a great price. Great user!
Best of all worlds.
Mini Adamas is awesome, best offering ever from Benchmade in every aspect of performance. It’s not showy, very robust. Sharpens like a dream. It came with a deep carry pocket clip but, to meet my needs, I requested a replacement standard clip from Benchmade (make sure you request the extra screws, you have to call customer service for that). In about a week the clip arrived free of charge. Mini Adamas is a serious knife, it has better balance than the full size Adamas making it a much easier every day carry option, and it stands up to any working knife challenge with gusto.
Axis got stuck - brand new
My excitement ended when a brand new Mini Adamas got struck in less than 5 minutes of trying. Called Benchmade support and I was told to check the mfg date on the box and since the year was 2024, rep said, "it shouldn't have happened". Thanks to REI representative who suggested for a replacement. However, it too, a brand new, out of the box, got stuck. I dropped a few drops of mineral oil, but to no avail. There was no point to call Benchmade again. Thanks again to REI, it was sent back and I got the refund. Had I not owned Benchmade knives, I probably woud have ended there. Guess what? I ordered yet another Benchmade, 535BK-4 😀. Let's see.
Great heavy duty pocket knife
Benchmade nailed it again with the mini adamas. The cruwear steel that this bad boy sports is one of the best you can get, having amazing toughness, really good edge retention and decent corrosion resistance. The ergonomics on this knife feel really good in hand, paired with G10 scales and the classic benchmade axis lock makes it a very high quality knife to use or fidget with. It is on the heavier side of pocket knives, so if you're looking for a lightweight hiking/backpacking option, go with the bugout. But if you're looking for a solid, heavy duty tool that you can easily throw in your pack and pocket, get the mini adamas.
Another Great Benchmade
I’ve been carrying and using this knife for a while now and I think it’s great. The blade stock is thick and there are full steel liners behind the scales, so the knife has some weight to it. The added weight feels great in your hand and you can tell that this thing is made to perform tough work. That additional weight of the blade makes the action buttery smooth as well. There is absolutely no blade play in any direction and the fit and finish straight out of the box is perfect with a beautifully centered blade. The handle is really comfortable and the ergos are great. No hot spots when using it. The jimping around the handle adds some grip as well. This is a fantastic knife for camping or hiking into the woods. I will typically carry one of my Bugouts in town and carry the Adamas when I’m outdoors. Love it
“Tank”, “Beast”, “Overbuilt”… all applicable
Benchmade makes many great knives, but occasionally they come out with one that stands apart. The Mini Adamas does just that. This is an overbuilt tank of a knife, and I’m not sure many of us will ever truly appreciate how rugged it is. From the Cruwear steel to the G10 scales… this thing is ready to WORK. Now, how practical is it for many of us? Probably not very. The blade stock is beefy (wide) enough as is the (behind-the-edge) cutting edge that it’s not the greatest slicer - for that function, there are better. Then there’s the weight. It is not a lightweight. At 4.6 ounces, especially for the blade length you get, this thing is a chunk in your pocket. But once in the hand, the ergonomics are where this thing shines. It becomes part of you. Very well designed and comfortable to use. So, who is this beast for? Well, anyone who appreciates a well-made beast. For me, if I don’t know what a day will bring, it will be the knife I reach for.
QC Issues Left Me Disappointed
I really don't like to write negative reviews, but I was very disappointed in this knife. The knife has verticle blade play when opened unless you can get the lock to stick by either exerting a painful amount of forward pressure or occasionally being able to get it to spring forward perfectly. This may break in eventually, but it's not very comforting. The grind is very uneven, which I can take care of on my stones, but for $300, I really expected better than the grind you see on $15 dollar Chinese knives. The knife came extremely gritty and difficult to open, however, that has greatly improved and it is now buttery smooth. The knife also has the best feeling G10 I have experienced. I saw the knife in person and just had to get it. I do feel like I may have just received one that slipped past QC. This is the perfect knife for me, so I will keep it, but I am quite disappointed. I love supporting and owning Oregon made knives as that is my home, I just hope it all breaks in with time so I can have me dream folder. The aesthetics, feel, and quality can be immediately felt, and I am confident that most of these knives are absolutely flawless. Don't let this review keep you from buying one; just know that there is a chance of some QC issues.
Excellent
Excellent knife, very smooth opening, closing and blade lock. I have a few pocket knives this one is light in weight yet solid and razor sharp.
Sturdy EDC Knife
Ergonomically, this knife feels great in hand. The locking system is super easy to open and close with one hand. The blade is sharp and durable. The knife is a nice one to add to my collection. I think the griptilian fits the hand maybe a little better, but I don't think that takes anything away from the adamas. This knife feels hefty in hand and that gives you a secure feeling if you ever needed to put some real stress on it in a survival situation. Obviously, you might want a fixed blade for real survival situations, but the adamas feels like it would be more suitable than many folding knives you might choose. Some my think this knife is heavy, and if you're counting every ounce, perhaps. But in general, the heft is comfortable in hand and in pocket and nothing to be overly concerned about.
