A little too much rope-feel for belaying
I got these when my leather petzl belay gloves started to wear through. The finger length was good, but they are a bit tight around the hand and take some work to put on, but they feel good once they are on. Since they are synthetic I don't expect them to stretch much. I've used them several times at the climbing gym and they work well enough for belaying. The relatively thin material seems sturdy, and I haven't noticed any wear, but I can't say it is sturdier than leather.. What I can say is that the gloves allow much more rope-feel than leather gloves and they allow more friction heat through. Too much of both for my taste. I will be getting a pair of leather gloves and keeping these as backup gloves.
Great for canyon rappels
Love these for canyoneering! They lasted for a reasonable number of canyons given the price (nothing lasts forever in canyons). I can still work with rope and set anchors with them on. I like that they're pretty breathable from the back of the hand while still protecting the palm. Definitely a great step up from cheap Amazon gloves without much of a price difference.
A very light-duty belay glove . . .
The Metolius Talon Belay Glove is an inexpensive light-duty glove. It is NOT comparable to the more expensive Petzl Belay Glove or similar belay gloves in the ($40+ retail price range). The Metolius Talon Belay Glove is thin and tight. When I first tried it on, it felt like a compression glove. There is NO leather on the glove. Everything appears to be synthetic. The only extra abrasion pad protection is at the webbing between the thumb and index finger. The Petzl Belay Glove is bombproof in durability and construction. The Metolius Talon Belay Glove is the opposite, but it is much less expensive. I purchased the Metolius Talon Belay Glove primarily as a full-finger exercise glove when using elastic rubber bands. I only use the glove about 25% of the time when exercising. The fact that the glove has a carabiner hole is important since it allows me to clip it to a carabiner on my workout bag so it won’t get lost. For the low-price, the Metolius Talon Belay Glove isn't too bad. If I can get at least a years life out of it, it's worth it.
Nice belay gloves
Great belay gloves. Cant really complain for the price. They protect the hands and feel durable. Overall comfortable but a little snug. Make sure to try them on if you get a chance before buying.
Seams affect comfort
My wife bought these gloves and when she tried them on she noticed the inside seams of the gloves caused some discomfort. Probably would have found this out if she tried them on at a store but she bought them online.
(So Far) All I Could Ask For
I've been using these a few months and so far (fingers crossed) they seem more durable than other gloves, while still having good tactile feel and dexterity.
