Perfect for Canoe Camping

My husband and I just returned from a 6-day canoe camping trip in the North Cascades. We housed all our gear in the 110 liter heavy duty NRS Bill’s Bag, all of our food, cooking and kitchen equipment in the 65 liter NRS Bill’s Bag, and our “day pack” items in a 25 liter NRS bag. This was our first canoe camping trip, and this dry bag system worked perfectly for us. We had some wet weather while paddling, and some short portaging. These bags proved to be rugged and waterproof. We never submerged them completely in water, but did test their ability to float for a minute when loaded with gear - which is enough time to gather the bags in case we accidentally dumped the canoe. That didn’t happen, but I’m confident that if the bags are closed properly (watch the NRS videos) they’d keep our gear dry in case of accident. I love the metal buckles. They are very secure. The backpack harness is comfortable enough. We carried 36 lbs of light but bulky camping gear in the 110 liter bag, which it handled easily. We carried 38 lbs of food and cooking/kitchen gear in the smaller 65 liter bag, which it also handled just fine. We carried 12 lbs of daytime gear, lunch, etc. in the 25 liter bag. These bags worked perfectly for us, and I’ll pack them the same way next time.

Quick-Connect Buckles Fail!

I bought this for a boundary waters canoe trip and the quick-connect buckles for the harness and compression straps slipped off multiple times. Extremely disappointed since the suspension (shoulder straps) would be partially disconnected when it came time to portage. Also, one of the quick-connect buckles broke when picking up the bag. I had approximately 65 lbs in the bag at the time, which I believe is very reasonable. There is no easy way to replace the buckles as they are all sewn in.
