The best ski base wax glide product I've ever used

This honest review is part of the REI Trailblazers testing program. I used the Mountain Flow "quick wax" on a cross-country ski day tour, with temps between 25-29F, at an elevation of 3,100 ft. at Snoqualmie Pass, WA. It was a 3-hour tour on single-track trails. In the past, I've used about 4-5 different wax-type compounds on both downhill and XC ski bases and this product is amazing. My qualitative assessment is that it gave me roughly 15-20% improvement in glide over not using it and compared to other products I have used. It applies easily and simply, without messes compared to liquid-type products. It comes with a small sponge-type applicator and then you can buff it with a towel (I used a paper towel) and it worked great. Clearly, this product establishes a new baseline compared to previous products I've used for my skis. Durability of the product was excellent. After 3 hours of hard skiing, I noticed no degradation in the performance characteristics. It allows for extraordinary glide, consistently. The only very minor hiccup was when you went from shaded snow to warmer snow in the sun. There was a minor sticking, but it was literally for less than 1-2 seconds. Overall, this was the best base wax system that I've ever used. Coupled with the ease of use and application, portability, and performance, this is a no-brainer to add to your winter sports ski and shredding kit. The product is compact and can be easily carried in a pocket or on longer adventures.

Great Stuff that you can feel good about!

I actually noticed a performance difference with this stuff. Usually I put these rub on waxes and can't tell if it's doing anything at all. I was pleasantly surprised with mountainflow. Also I do like that it is plant based. It does wear off, I needed to reply at the end of each day to maintain the performance difference. Important: What the video of how to apply. It not intuitive. A QR link comes in the package, and listen to them, you only need a little bit and going overboard does not improve the performance.

Easy to apply, keeps snow clean!

I have used this wax for both backcountry and alpine skiing as well as for skate skiing days. It is very easy to apply. It has helped bridge between my hot wax sessions by keeping my bases feeling like they are gliding well on the snow. The application wears off relatively quickly so it isn't a substitute for hot wax, but it is a great tool to stretch out how frequently you need to re-hot-wax. I really like that it doesn't have PFOAs, also it doesn't have any scent which I appreciate since I hate when I can smell other glide wax smell on my skis in the car. It comes in a convenient tin for fitting in a fanny pack for the cross-country skiers among us. I also appreciate that it has multiple temperature ranges, I especially hate that cold snow stick when skate skiing and this helps ameliorate it.

Good for experienced skiiers!

I just used this for the first time this winter, considering I'm on the east coast and snow doesn't accumulate until later in the year. I went skiing in northern pa, in a resort. My partner who frequently skis double black diamonds said he seemed to go faster after using the wax. Me on greens and blues, I felt like there was a little difference but I was just glad to wax my skis finally.

Go with the FLOW - MountainFlOW eco-wax

I received my tin of wax a few days ago and it was perfect timing. Today was opening day at Deer Valley resort and wanted to give it a go as I've never used this type of wax previously. We received a few inches of new snow over night and the open runs were in great shape and temps were perfectly inline to test the wax (22F). It's still early and conditions were a combo of man-made and natural mostly hard-pack snow. Before I left home, I applied the wax to the skis per the instructions (see photos). It doesn't get any easier. I used the included applicator to rub on, and then buffed off with a clean, micro-fiber cloth. Super simple and the bases looked good and a little shinier than normal, and also erased a few light scrapes. On the hill, the skis performed well and had no issues with stickiness or slowing. In fact, I stopped at one point to catch a lift and skis started moving on their own on a flat surface. You'll probably want to apply this each time you go out since it's not a hot application. I also have a few other pair of skis that I will apply this too that aren't used as much to keep base oxidation to a minium and in good shape. I ususally have skis tuned/waxed, but generally only do it once a year and won't apply anything else during the season, so I was able to apply the eco-wax and head out. No irons, intricate setups or mess. Buy, apply and go!

Easy way to extend your wax life between hot waxes

I used this product on a blue bird day with temperatures in the mid 20s on packed powder conditions. I loved the ease of application and I think it’s a great product for longer trips where you may not have access to a hot wax and just need a little extra to get you by. Went on smoothly, wiped off without leaving any residue. I felt it was beneficial and will live in my snowboard bag going forward.

Great for the environment and temperature changes.

First, I really appreciate a company that is mindful of the environment, not just as a value but how their products actually affect the environment they are intended for. Second, in case it’s not clear, this is not to replace hot waxing your skis. This is intended to compliment what your skis already have on the base and probably more importantly, adjust to the temperature changes while out on the hill. The packaging is small and easy to find in your ski bag and comes with an applicator. You will need a dry rag to buff it in once you have applied it. I really like the eco-wax and will pick up the other temperature range to complete my kit.

Eco-Friendly, Quick and Easy Wax

In the past I've used wax that needed ironing and took time for tuning up my snowboard. The mountainFlow eco-wax was a game-changer. It not only saved time with how quick the application was but was also easy and required little set up, clean up, and materials. It's a compact container that can easily be brought on the mountains if you happen to need a quick tune up. I also like how the product is eco-friendly to help preserve the mountains. So far the performance of my snowboard has been smooth and I'm waiting for more snow to fall!

Easy application & skis great

Performance-wise, this wax is fantastic - fast and durable. Application was smooth and easy, and much more pleasant than fluoro wax. The plant-based/nontoxic formula is a giant advantage. Take better care of the mountains and the planet without sacrificing any performance? It's a no-brainer.
