Fun Feature Packed Lantern
Overall this lantern does exactly what it advertises and well. The “shake weight” feature works well and is quite accurate. The AlpenGlow 500 feels lighter then the BioLite lantern/flashlight combo which has been my go to for powering my site lights in my tent. The 500 is much larger in width but the same height. Personally for Backpacking (which is what I do) I would pick up the smaller AlpenGlow, and use this one more where size and weight aren’t an issue. If you wanted a good lantern that’s very feature packed, I highly recommend this, especially with the ChromaReal colors.
More than just a light
I love this little guy and so does everyone else in my family. I wasn't sure when I got this exactly how I would use it, but now I end up using it all the time. It is a little bulky, but it's pretty light and easy to keep in any car camping setup. It can recharge your phone, provide light for cooking, and then be the main feature at your post-meal dance party thanks to its fun party light features (my kids love this). My kids use this all the time building forts or staying out late. I love having a piece of gear that can serve multiple functions, and this lantern does just that. And as an added bonus, you can feel good about buying it because BioLite is an environmentally friendly company!
So many uses
Exactly what i was looking for and so much more. I was in search of some sort of light to use for a night light for my kids in there tent when we went camping. Well, the alpenglow is perfectly! It not only fit my need, it delivers so much more. We have used the candle flicker when sitting out side, star gazing. We have used it as a lantern at the fire pit, we even used it as a accent light at a baby shower (set it to pink to welcome our new niece). The fact is, it has so many functions you will be finding all sorts of great ways to use it you never even considered. If you want a bright base light, a low light to set the mood, a colored fade to calm your kids, or a multi changing party light on the go, the alpenglow has you covered. Period.
Poor design, Excellent longevity
Fumbling in the dark one night after getting it, I accidentally plugged the charger cable into the bluetooth slot and the color setting is now only purple on one side. If the charging lights WEREN'T on the OPPOSITE side of the lamp, and the two outlets WEREN'T right next to each other, this mistake and malfunction would be less likely to occur. BUT even despite this! The lamp still works night in and night out, for idk how many years!!
Best light ever!
Seriously the light is so gentle on our eyes the color settings fade together my favorite is a solid non moving purple to blue. The button is amazingly huge and easy to find and push. Seriously felt dumb for spending this much on a light but if it lasts well I’m getting another one! Seriously the best light ever so far!

I purchased two 500s. We used these in a two room tent and they were perfect. The warm light setting is fantastic. However, my kids really enjoyed changing the colors. I bought three 250s for the kids Easter baskets. Buy this product, you will love it.
Everyone needs this!
I would rate this lantern 10 stars if possible! It is not only my fav piece of camping gear, it is one of my fav things, PERIOD! I love lights, and lanterns, and stuff that glows so not a shocker that I’d love this this thing, but seriously, I use it every day! The functionality is kind of intimidating at first, it just has so many modes, but I mastered it in minutes and I use all of them! But the “fireworks” is easily my go-to mode! The colors are brilliant and sharp. The materials and built quality impeccable. It’s a convenient size and, for real, this thing comes with me wherever I go. This thing is so not just for camping! And it’s the Energizer bunny of electronics…it just goes and goes and goes! I would even straight up pay full price for this! And I almost never do that! Man, just buy it! Haha
Awesome piece of kit to bring outdoors
The price of entry is high. That's out of the way. This light is awesome. I just purchased it and I use it in the back of my xterra where my camp sleeping quarters is. The different mood lighting and the warm light option were really cozy. I thought I was crazy for buying it at first but I'm happy I did. It's also dimmable which makes it nice.
Lite up our house during a Horrific Storm
I want to let everyone know how Fantastic this AlpenGlow 500 is in an emergency. We recently had tornadoes that came through our community, notably our neighborhood. The electricity was out for three days. We started using the AlpenGlow 500 while we where down in our basement during the storm. When the storm was over we continued to use the lights. The amount of light these AlpenGlow 500 lights are amazing but also all the fun colors help lightened the mood. My Husband would take the lights to work to recharge them so we could use them at nighttime. I would definitely purchase more of these lights to use as presents and also preparedness.
