Great bike for all rides. Makes biking fun again
I am a long time rider. Age 76. This bike brought back the ability to ride without limitations. Hills, long rides, made doable again.
Very much a "road bike" feel
A long time road, cyclocross, mountain bike and velodrome rider, I purchased this bike due to cardiac medical situation. I loved this bike. It handles very well. It retains enough of the road bike nimbleness, but has the gravel bike stability on descents. The one thing that really stood out for me was how frictionless the pedaling was with the motor off. I was incredible compared to other ebikes I tested. I basically only used the motor when going up hill. I found I didn't need it on the flats or downhill. It was a lot heavier than I was used to since the rest of my bikes are pretty light. But that was the price for having a motor and battery. So in short: PROs - handling, stability, frictionless pedaling with motor off. CONs - heavier than a non-motorized bike. I'd highly recommend this bike
Cannondale synapse neo1
Bought to replace my road bike for my 30 mile round trip commute. Larger tires give a more comfortable ride and the electric assist helps me commute by by bike on a more regular basis. One issue I have is the speed on the bike reads faster than actual speed so the assist actually cuts off at 18 MPH insread of 20. I think this can be addressed by the dealer through the software. Overall very happy. You can feel the motor cut off if you're going uphill or into wind, but on flats you don't notice it and can easily ride unassisted beyond 20mph.
Beware of lousy tires.
Great bike, good deal, but a chain is only as strong as its weakest link. And on this bike, the low-quality tires are definitely the weakest link. Normal road riding (about 400 miles so far) has resulted in numerous flats. Upon close examination, the tires are just filled with holes. I started going through tubes at a furious pace and decided that the tires had to be upgraded immediately. Hard to understand how a bike costing several thousand dollars can perform so poorly because the manufacturer (and the REI buyer) decided to save a few pennies on lousy tires. I'm extremely disappointed.
sensational bike
I’ve gone 1800 miles since June. Will make it up any hill or mountain. Not only the motor but the 22 speeds . Battery lasts a long time. So much fun. Did 86 mile ride to Malibu last Summer.
Motor problem 3 weeks after warranty expired!
Nice bike but the Bosch motor began making grinding/crunching sound after a total of just over 500 miles. Had the bike looked at by my local bike shop to diagnose. Some problem inside the motor resulting in a loose axle. Only solution a new motor. This is just 3 weeks after the warranty on the motor expired! Contacted REI bike shop and was told that one week or one year outside of warranty didn't matter. Would just have to get a new motor. According to the individual I spoke with, they would not even try to negotiate a replacement from Bosch. So...working with a local bike shop to get a replacement motor. Sadly, I will not be back to REI.
Cannondale Synapse: a perfect E-bike (almost)
The Cannondale Synapse has been a tremendous bike for me. It is quiet, shifts smoothly, and with 4 modes of assistance, allows me to ride faster, farther and climb steeper hills, even while getting a great workout. However, I have had some issues in less than 100 miles of riding which I should mention. The initial check by REI-Tacoma was less than perfect: shifting not correct because of unadjusted cables and no gauge readout because magnet in wrong place. Both problems were adjusted quickly and correctly by REI. Most recent problem was rear wheel which began wobbling seriously, and just short of catastrophically, on a very fast down hill ride. Most spokes were loose and one was broken. I don't know the cause, though I have only ridden on pavement, avoid bumps and potholes, and attempt to shift smoothly. The wheel is being repaired by REI at no cost to me and I was told by a Cannondale rep that they would like a warrantee claim filed, so that they have a record of this mechanical problem.
Best Bike I have ever owned! Hands Down!
I've owned Specialized and Co-Op Bikes my whole life but nothing compares to this Cannondale! Even though this is the heaviest bike I've owned (39 lbs) it rides like a lightweight bike. I pull my daughter in her trailer and this thing can do anything. Even hills are super easy with trailer. With electric off it still feels as though the bike accelerates with assistance. The bearings on this bike are phenomenal and the shifting is sooo smooth.
The best bike I had
EXCEPTIONAL e-bike that runs like a regular road bike with all the care and craftsmanship of Cannondale. You do not "feel" the electric engine which runs very smoothly and you can even run without the aid of the Bosch engine.
Miles of Smiles
Ignore the scowls of your road bike-riding friends, this e-bike, the Cannondale Synapse Neo 1, will just add smiles and miles to your bike riding fun. First of all, it's not a free ride: you have to pedal to get the electric assist. In my Strava measurements, I'm burning about 70% of the calories that I would on my (non-electric) Trek Domane. Two weeks ago I did a 112 mile ride, and had power left over (rode in the Eco assist mode, the lowest level of assist). Of course, the first ride I did on the Cannondale was over the steepest, longest hills in the area...and I live in the Sierra Nevada foothills. No problem climbing! I thought: "so, this is what it's like to be a professional cyclist." At which point I was passed by a pro rider (of course), Neilsen Powless, on a training ride. Still, you will have a blast on this bike! So, why four stars and not five? To remove the battery, you have to take off one of the two bottle cages. But there are removable cage mounts available. And, the display for the Bosch motor is the Purion, which isn't compatible with the latest Cannondale app, so you don't get power readings.
