The Xcursion Fusions, since they're waterproof, are my go-to for whenever it's raining or lightly snowing outside. If it's heavy snow, I'll throw on the Alpine's, but these get the job done most of the time and are a bit lighter. They're quite the upgrade in style from the previous Xcursions. They're a "solid" boot, so to speak, but they're not stiff. Like all Xero Shoes, you can roll them up into a ball. Thanks Xero Teams for sending these to me to review. :)
Good quality very comfortable
I have a question. What footwear do you buy if you like minimalist shoes and you live somewhere where it snows frequently? I need to tell you that I was sent these to review on a review website. I am posting here because I love them. Minimalist shoes are an acquired taste, they take time to prepare your muscles for using them comfortably on rough ground or carrying a load. The benefits are though huge. They basically encourage you to move the way you were supposed to, engaging the body the way it was designed to be used. I now use minimalist shoes pretty much exclusively, the big gap in my footwear collection was something for winter. The Xcursion Fusion fills that gap. Yes, my feet can spread out, rather than feel incarcerated. They are able to bend and articulate. I can feel the ground beneath them. I have great traction wearing them. And, they also stay warm and dry. This is achieved through compromise. I am most likely to be found wearing a pair of Mesa Trails in the mountains, the Xcursion Fusion is not quite as flexible, it breathes less this though fuels its major benefits. It is significantly more burly and warm. Shoveling the wet, heavy snow we had in Denver last month, no problem. I came in after each sortie with warm dry feet having not fallen over. Changing out of ski boots at the TH, these are what I put on. I can stand around and chat with partners, before driving home. In the car, it feels like I might as well be wearing flip-flops. Come volcano season I know what footwear I will be using prior to swapping them out for the ski boots. I can kick a step in snow in these, I will even happily wear them with crampons. These are significantly better than the previous generation of Xcursions and have just filled a gap in my shoe collection.
It's got it all - wide toe box, zero drop, minimal sole, (actually) water proof, excellent traction even on wet surfaces. I've had mine 6 months now and I'm so satisfied I'm here to buy another pair just in case it gets discontinued or hard to find by the time I need new ones. One caveat - read a review that mentioned a fold at the toebox digs into his toes and caused pain - I noticed this fold when I tried them on in store, & was concerned initially, but unlike his experience it was never a problem for me. Running, jumping, or climbing these shoes only seem to get better with time & break-in.
The new Xero Shoes Xcursion Fusion Waterproof Hiker is a must-have for the adventurous person who prefers minimalist footwear! The comfort is what you would expect from Xero Shoes, and the quality is top-notch! Lightweight and fashionable, perfect for a hike anytime of the year. These are not designed to keep you super warm, but I have been wearing them during frigid weather with wool socks, and they have worked well. For more warmth look to the Xero Shoes Alpine! With the total stack height of 11 mm, which includes the Lugged FeelTrue sole and 3mm TrailFoam insole, these are super comfortable for any terrain. I have worn these every day since I received them, and they still look like new. Get a pair and you too will love them! I am looking forward to the Springtime to hit the trails in these hikers! One of my favorite Xero’s to date! I received this pair of Xero Shoes for free in exchange for an honest review.
Hey all, just wanted to tell you my honest thoughts from these. I DID NOT get a free review copy like every other review on here and these are not a 4.9/5 that is insane. However, I do like zero shoes and am a long time wearer of the daylite hiker. The biggest issues with these you will notice is the tongue can dig in to the front of your ankle a bit. Also, your feet are going to stink if you wear these all day/half of the day. These just launched so none of the reviews can mention durability. However, they do seem pretty durable. I think that the "fusion" of strap to heal (the previous Xcursion it was separated) is marketing and is a gimick. The shoe looks pretty cool and is an upgrade for sure from the last model. The included liner is thicker than my daylite hiker and adds more protection. Overall, this is actually a pretty good hiking boot, just make sure you are up for the zero drop when carrying weight or steep hikes (killed my calves and tendons; and I do normally wear zero drop shoes) Be cautious of the tongue, and keep in mind your feet will not breath at all in these. Lastly, trust a review who actually bought the product from REI, paid $140 and does not get this shoe for free (BTW if you did get this shoe for free in exchange for a return, they are 4.9/5) but for the rest of us I would rank them a 3.9/5 I ended up returning mine because of the above reasons.
Wore these hiking in Utah in 100 plus degree weather. Did well on sandy and rocky hiking. Also did well hiking in dirt and mud in the northeast. Have not had any issues with feet overheating or getting wet when stepping through streams. Have held up great after hundreds of miles hiked. Seems to have just enough cushion on the bottom but occasionally will feel a sharp rock if stepped on. Below freezing they do get a little chilly if you don't have a good sock on.
Put them on for the first time today. Super comfy and checks all the boxes for a shoe. However, this is my second pair of xeros that the back tab as ripped while putting on the shoe which is infuriating for a shoe this price and the first time putting it on.
I transitioned to zero drop shoes this spring. I was looking for a waterproof hiking shoe/boot. I love the Mesa Trails, but they get wet so fast, even in just the dew on grass. These are the first Xero shoes that i felt like i had to break in. I put them on and they felt so stiff after months of HFS, Prios, Z-Trails and Mesa Trails. So far, waterproofing is great (only up to where the tongue tucks in at the ankle). They have a thicker sole than most Xero shoes. Thats been good for all the broken acorns that were poking my feet on trail runs this fall. Grip seems good. Maybe not as good as my old Merrell hiking shoes, but they are more flexible with my feet, so i get about the same overall traction because my balance is better. I ordered 1/2 size up as recommended, and that works fine with thin and medium hiking socks. Only down sides are the extra stiffness of the sole and shoe at the beginning of the laces pokes into the top of my foot--it has gotten better as I broke in the shoes. If they could make a Mesa Trail shoe thats waterproof, that would be even better.
When walking in this shoe and bending your foot, the spot in which the shoe would naturally crease folds deeply in on itself to the extent that it pinches the top of my foot and creates a really uncomfortable friction point. This makes it uncomfortable to walk in which is really unfortunate considering every other feature of this shoe is spot on. This design flaw should be addressed by the manufacturer. Shoes naturally crease when you walk but the crease itself should not cause the material to bend inward enough to hit your foot and rub against it. I get that this brand is geared towards the natural motion of your feet but this boot still needs to have enough structural integrity to feel good without any friction points. Nothing weird about my feet either and this issue occurrs in both the left and right boot.
