Poor Quality Brim
I purchased this hat as a replacement for hiking, rafting, paddling etc. Overall all the good reviews are things I would have agreed with UNTIL I washed it after a rafting trip. I followed the instructions to hand wash, light soap, cold water and laid it flat (upright) to dry. In the process the brim material warped, stiff and became noisy/squeaky. I even tried to redo the process a second time but with no success. Unfortunately I could not return this hat as the purchase to discovery of the poor quality exceeded 365 days. Usually very happy with my gear but this is the first item purchased I would have returned had I been able too.
Loses shape
I really liked this hat until it needed to be washed. The brim is wavy and I can’t get it to lay like it used to, despite following wash and dry instructions. Also, in store I had tried on the green version in a size small and it fit perfectly. I decided to get the tan in a size small without trying it on and it fit a bit tighter than I’d have liked (leaves a mark on my forehead), so might be a slight size discrepancy between the colors.
Honestly surprised by a hat
This hat was awesome. I'm not one for hats but some sunburn in Colorado turned that around really quick. Water seemed to bounce off it during some rain and it prevented some bushes from snagging me in the face area. It's comfy and light and breathes very well too. It has an adjustable tie to fit any size brainium. Won't leave without it now!
Small head perfect hat
I’ve used this in Jordan and on hikes in the water. It’s the perfect hat everyone loves it. And most importantly it fits my tiny head because it’s adjustable.
Faulty Design - Poor Quality
Overall I spent a bit of timing looking for a good long term sun and hot weather replacement hat for hiking and summers outdoors. This hat has a nice design and the brim seemed a bit stiff but I assumed it would just loose up with wear. I used the hat for just over a year before it got dirty enough that it warranted a wash. I followed the care instructions and after that the brim became warped (random up or down to the brim) and noisy. I attempted to try and resolve it by washing the hat again and the issue was unresolved. The materials do not list any plastic or other materiel insert in the brim but it is not just firm fabric but likely some kind of plastic that warped. Do not recommend this hat.
Brim dries poorly. Going to return this one.
I'm so bummed about this hat, because the brim width and crown height are so great. Two things that make it a fail for me. The brim really does dry all wavy. I have an REI Sahara hat I bought a couple of years ago, and the brim is much sturdier and always dries flat, no matter how many times it gets wet from gardening, swimming in the pool or even crashing in waves in the ocean. This new Sahara path hat is a sad imitation. In addition to to poor quality brim, I don't like the tightening band, because it always droops down onto my eyebrows when I take the hat off and put it back on, which is frequently when swimming in the ocean in particular. Going to try springing for a Tilley, next. This hat appears to be based on a Tilley Airflo hat anyway. Fingers crossed.
Great sun hat
This is the most airy hat I found. If you use the inside cord to shrink the diameter you can it perch high enough to let the breeze through. Only in the very strongest winds can you fail to secure this hat with a comfortable chin/behind the ears cord. It comes with a secure cord lock. The wide brim keeps rain and sun off; the venting is not so helpful in driving rain. Mine is green, but a lighter color would do better in hot weather. Twice the experience in rain caused the brim to curl upward. This looks nice but raindrops pool. Not so good. Dry with brim forced down?
Stay Cool in Style
I overheat very easily so I need a hat that covers my neck but keeps me cool. This hat does just that and (in my opinion) it’s pretty cute too 😉 It is breathable and comfortable AND I got it on sale - woohoo!
Great hiking hat
Great fitting (adjustable) hat that really gives a tremendous amount of sun protection. While it's not the lightest hat I've worn, it doesn't feel overly heavy on your head . Hiking Telescope peak in Death Valley, I really felt the cooling effect of the mesh upper when on the windy ridges, it was like a built in AC. I haven't washed the hat yet, though I probably will after a few more hikes, the underneath of the brim is starting to show rings of sweat stains from a few hikes. I've been using the hat in 100 degree hikes and it really works great!
The cool cat in the hat :)
I love my new hat! It's cool and comfortable and well ventilated.
