Smartwool  Classic All-Season Merino Quarter-Zip Base Layer Top - Women's

The fit, warmth, and breathability of this shirt are unmatched! I’ve worn it countless times for hunting-where I have long periods of high impact activity alternating with sitting in temperatures that range from <10-30°F. The zipper helps for high cooling during hiking. I’ve also used it for hiking during travel in the western US. Unfortunately, the zipper pull broke and, while I was able to still use it for a few times after that, it’s now stuck open and I need to buy a new one. I have since purchased the I train it version, which is warmer, and has a smaller fit, (I have M in both.) but I like this version better, with the exception of durability.

I'm new to merino wool and I was initially skeptical at the claim that it keeps you warm during cold weather, doesn't smell, and doesn't hold sweat like cotton. The claims are true. I couldn't believe it. This is my base layer that I wear hiking and backpacking. I have a curvy build, 5'6" 150-175 lbs and it fits nicely. Not too loose not too tight. I believe I purchased the lightweight version. It doesn't hold sweat like cotton but it is a breathable fabric and the sweat dries pretty fast. Worth it!

My favorite top for hiking in cooler weather. I like this as a layer under jackets in colder weather, or on its own for those in-between days.

I bought this top for a fall trip to Italy. Because of the changeability of fall weather, I wanted a top that would pack small, not need much washing, and could be worn as a sleek lightweight layer for extra warmth. I actually bought this top to wear as a sweater rather than a base layer and thus bought two sizes larger than my usual size. It fits perfectly for that purpose, worn over a short or long sleeve tee. I'm in Italy now, and the weather has been slightly cooler than normal. This top has been perfect for chilly nights and mornings and is easily stowed and carried in my day bag during the warm afternoon. Washed once (air dried) with no shrinking or change of appearance. Great purchase, very happy.

Great top, true to size, beautiful color. I wore it on a day with varying temperatures and remained very comfortable the whole time. I’ll imagine this is going to become a staple for me.

I bought this to help get through the early fall rainy season here in Fairbanks as a long distance trail runner, and it worked better than expected, not only keeping me warm when it was damp, but I was able to keep it on without over heating on long runs when the weather shifted and warmed into the upper 50’s. That surprised and delighted me. In Talkeetna, a damper climate, the race started at 49 degrees, drizzling fog, and ended at 60 degrees. This little merino was a fabulous comfort. I am a 64 year old runner, and am out longer than than young athletes. I need your good gear because I am out longer. I love the all season 1/4 zip because it is so versatile. It can be zipped up and look good under a flannel shirt, on its own or when things heat up, lower the zipper. The fabric is truly all season and it is true, you don't have to wash this every time it is worn, unless you have been perspiring heavily. I use it for runs and everyday wear. The only drawback is that wool needs safe storage from moths where I live. I use a single drawer for my Smartwool shirts and tights, put cedar blocks and resaturated them occasionally with essential oils.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love love love these shirts. I am a touring cyclist on a three-year tour of Europe and these are all I wear in any weather. I layer them with a vest in colder weather and wear them as is in the summer. The beauty of merino wool is that it warms you when you need it, and it cools you when you need it. Also, it never stinks. Never. I can wear these shirts for weeks without washing them and no stink. To make them last, simply wash in a mesh laundry bag and dry flat. They are magical. #sweepstakes

This is a perfect base layer. Very comfortable, breathable, cool and/ or warm depending on the situation. I got it quite wet on a rafting trip and it dried quickly while I was wearing it. This has now become my favorite go-to shirt. . I wore it most days we were in Alaska. Whether it was under a heavier layer or just as a lightweight layer over a t-shirt. It was perfect for all of our various activities, from hiking glaciers, fly fishing, bear tours or going to dinner . . just perfect!!

Love this quarter zip! I'm a big fan of 150 merino and this top is a Versatile addition to my collection. I wanted a shirt that looked stylish, keep me warm in the freezing office, and not be too hot in the summer. This fits the bill. The fit and styling is very flattening on my athletic body type. I would purchase this again if a mid gray, dark gray, and black options were offered. As one person pointed out, I do kinda wish the zipper pull blended in more, but it's not a deal breaker.
