Great Pack, Tricky to...Pack
Really like the idea of this pack because compared to traditional saddle bags it does a great job of keeping things organized and giving you easy access. I hate how most saddle bags just become a cave of disorganized darkness once they're even a little bit full. That said, all the comments about the boa strap being unstable are right. Once you have it fairly full, if you don't pack and attach it just right it will start to wiggle loose. The best thing I can say is check out the videos from Silca's website. They have a few videos showing techniques to pack it better. The main one that helped me was putting the 2 CO2 together in the small pouch with the filler head attached to one. Doing that and then putting my multitool and lever on the larger side seemed to help me pack it a little flatter and make it more stable. But it would be ideal if packing it didn't require special youtube training in the first place. Overall, I'm still pretty happy with it. Still better than a traditional seatbag for me. Just wish maybe the strap was a little wider and more stable.
Do NOT buy this thing. Sorry.
This bag came unattached every time I used it. #1 it doesn't hold much essential repair tools, so that's annoying. #2 it doesn't stay tight on your saddle no matter how hard you tighten it down. Aren't those the only things we want a bag to do? Hold some essentials and stay attached to the bike? Well despite my hopes this bag came off while road-cycling 7 times before I decided to return it. There's nothing more frustrating than gear malfunctioning while you're in the middle of a challenging effort on the bike. I would rather have a bag that doesn't look as cool but functions perfectly. This bag is a safety hazard when road cycling. Tools falling out and hitting your wheel, derailleur, spokes, or a rider behind you, etc. Simply having to stop in traffic to pick up your bag and tools that spilled everywhere is an immense risk to your safety. I hope this review was helpful.
Perfect for the minimalist, MTB or road.
I liked it so much I bought another one. It holds everything I need to fix common problems on the road or trail. Boa dial holds tight, and can be positioned to clear a dropper post. Very low profile, will work under an A** Saver (fender), but will block most other under-seat accessories. In it I carry a mini-pump, slim multitool with chain pliers, a tubeless-plug/chain-breaker, tire levers, and zip-ties. There would still be room for a spare tube if needed. Exterior is durable after a year of rough roads, enough to be confident buying one for my mountain bike. Like other reviews say, don't overpack it. If you want to carry multiple tubes, extra Co2 and food, consider a bigger bag.
Fantastic!
This bag is fantastic and those who are proffering one star reviews are not doing it correctly. Follow the directions as prescribes by Silca's YouTube videos and you'll be good to go. I have used it on three different bike with three different saddle configurations and it worked flawlessly. The one time I didn't attach it correctly and the result similar to that of the bad reviews, however, that was my fault. I will buy another!
I’ve had the same problem.
Just like the other reviewers I’ve had the pack get loose because the Boa doesn’t hold the cords tight on bumpy roads and I’ve also had the pack come unwrapped while riding while the Boa kept the cords tight. Wish I had read the reviews before buying.
Works great! Just don't overfill it.
I've been using this little pack for about 4 months now in some pretty heavy gravel riding. I've done chunky gravel, rooty single-track, smooth roads, and everything in between. It stays put just fine, as long as you follow a couple rules: 1. Don't overfill it - this isn't like a normal under-seat bag that you can pack to the gills and just zip up. You need to plan your kit a bit more. It probably won't hold your entire toolkit for road riding unless you can really downsize (I have a few more tools in my frame bag). 2. Push bulkier items to the outside of the pockets. I spent some time getting this packed exactly right, but now having done that it's great. I use it as my wheel / tire repair kit, including: * spare tube * tire lever * patch kit * tubless plugs * tire boots * spoke repair kit I like this setup because any time something goes wrong with a wheel or tire, I just open this up and all my tools are there ready to go. It freed up a bunch of space in my frame bag, and I don't have to go fishing for all the tools when something goes wrong.
Doesn't stay put
I bought this for use on my road bike and I haven't had good luck so far. I've tried in both orientations (pockets up and pockets down) and on rougher roads it flips around the boa. If the strap were wider I don't think this would be a problem. It could be my seapost/saddle combination, but even still this is a frustrating product. Build quality is good, but poor execution.
Don't buy this
It is a good idea for a bag but really don't recommend it. I liked it for a bit but the boa straps have stretched out and the bag keeps falling off my bike on rides. It's been responsible for me crashing twice getting stuck in my back tire. Don't buy.
works perfect.
I've had this on my mountain bike for a year now without issue. It rolls down small and stays secure.
Won't stay put
Have to agree with the other reviewers. It's extremely difficult to get this bag situated securely. I've packed it multiple ways and it always seems to wiggle loose. In fact, I've had it come completely undone and had some of my repair kit strewn across 300 ft of a gravel road on steep descent. Not good. I managed to find everything except for the hex attachment for my topeak mini tool. Could have been a lot worse if I'd actually lost important repair kit on a 70 mile gravel ride with a minimum 15 mile hike out from any given location. Certainly is not race-worthy either as I wasted some time in race trying to get this thing tight to my saddle after working on my brakes. Maybe on the road this thing would be ok but it can't handle a day of shaking on gravel roads. Still wouldn't recommend it for the road. Definitely returning this thing.
