Waypoint Tarp for Cabover Campers
The Kelty Waypoint Tarp was exactly what we were looking for to provide shade and rain relief for the back of our Palomino cab-over camper. We attached the Waypoint to the Tule rack on top. The single pole was plenty tall to provide the slope for runoff. The tieouts were long enough to secure the sides of the tarp, despite the height of our roof being higher than recommended. Setup was quick. We secured the middle tie with a bungee cord.
Kelty Waypoint Car Tarp is great in rain & sun
We purchased the Kelty Waypoint Car Tarp a couple of years ago. We have used it attached to our 4runner and as a freestanding tarp. The provided stakes are strong and heavy duty. We drove them into hard rocky dirt as well as sand and they held very well even in winds. We've used this to shade us in the heat as well as keep us dry in heavy thunderstorms. This thing is well worth the money.
Great awning for our small camper
We have a small 13” fiberglass camper, and I was on the search to find a dependable awning that I could attach to give us some additional covered living space and extra protection from rain for our camper. This works almost perfectly. We have the fly going over the top of our camper, which gives me the protection I wanted, and it gives the perfect amount of room out front for a couple chairs and our outdoor rug. The only downsides are the lines which are easy to trip on at night, and the height of the sides. My husband is taller so he needs to bend down a bit if he wants to come in from the side. Overall- I do not regret my purchase and plan on using it every time we go camping.
Great for car camping
Love this car tarp! It fits great on my Subaru Forester. Held up well in the rain and was way more spacious than I anticipated. Very easy to setup even with just one person. Highly recommend!
Perfect sleep shelter for my truck bed!
You can’t ask for anything more from a tarp and a pole. I set this up at camp in 5 minutes. It packs into a bag that fits perfectly under my truck’s rear seat. The back corner straps buckled around my truck’s step rails perfectly and the back edge tucked behind my truck bed, as I don’t have a roof rack to clip the rear middle buckle to. It held up through a night of steady 15 mph winds no problem. It did flap a bit, but never pulled out a tent stake. If I could change one thing, I would make the sturdy shock-cord pole height adjustable so I could lower the height of the tarp’s peak closer to my truck bed to protect me more from the elements. For the price, and the Kelty brand, you cannot beat this value.
Exceeded my expectations — and I was nervous
I am SO happy I decided to get this. Was going back and forth between this one and one on Amazon that’s the same price. Ended up buying this from REI and I am so glad I did. I set this whole thing up by myself, but two people are recommended. Straight forward instructions and went over the open trunk of my Honda Civic. As someone who will be living out of their car for a couple of months, something like this was key to extend living space especially in rainier or sunnier conditions. Seems like good quality materials used for the tarp as well. Love love LOVE!!
As always, love my REI products
I was super excited when I came across this shade cover from REI It was just what I was looking for lightweight portable, and could cover a lot of area of shade. I took it out this weekend for the first time I feel like in the beginning It it a 2 person job to put it up, but now I feel like One person could do it if they figure out it From putting it together for the first time the one down fall would be it can’t withstand wind over 20 miles an hour or more, I’m still glad I bought it, and look forward to dialing it in
so far so good - keeps off the rain and sun
Used our car tarp for the first time this weekend. The setup instructions that came with it did not mention the fastener on the center seam opposite the grommet for the pole. We attached it to the roof rack on our vehicle, but if we didn't have a roof rack, that attachment point would have been useless. The tarp kept the midday sun off of us, though radiant heat still came though. Kept a light sprinkle off, too. I'll be curious to see how it holds up in wind. Plenty of space for two people, a camp table and gear. It's got a loose fit over our 2020 Subaru Crosstrek if the hatch is closed. The fit tightens up if we open the hatch. I'd want to put some padding over the pointy ends of the taillights, though, since it looks like it would put undue stress on the fabric. Easy enough to set up; came with very sturdy stakes and a nice carry bag. Took off a star because they chose to use taupe as the color for the guy lines, and I kept tripping on them because they blended with the ground color so I couldn't see them well. Why not use guy lines that match the bright orange part of the tarp??
Great Solution!
We loved this Tarp. It's lightweight, breaks down small enough for our small tear drop camper, and is versatile enough for the camper or our truck. It's got a wide range so covered both of our chairs nicely and had plenty of space for our dogs to hide out from rain and sun.
Great for roof top tent annex!
We used this covering as an annex for our roof top tent, and this one worked great! We were sheltered from the sun and the wind!
