I have now had two pairs of these boots and both have failed on me with very little use and let in water. Both boots have failed in the same place on the bottom of the toe cap where it meets the sole on both sides of the boots. The first pair were replaced and the second pair have failed which includes being in lock down for a year, I went on a two day hike and failed again. Shocking!!! please do not buy save your money
Dear Matthew, Thank you for your feedback. I can see that our customer service has reached out to you in order to find a solution for you. Kind regards, Jan
As this not my first Salomon boot, so from real experience I can not recommend this brand enough. From quality to customer services simply perfect. Thanks Salomon
I have no reliability info to report yet. This is an out of the box review. Background: I have an older pair of quest boots (purchased in 2017 and seen in photos) that happen to be one of my favorite boots of all time. I put these things through rigorous use and thousands of miles over the past 4 years... if only these boots were still in production. The new pair of Quest 4 Gore-Tex boots do not fit even close to the old ones did out of the box. This pair is stiffer, less comfortable, and position the foot flatter. The sizing has also changed. My perfect fitting 9.5 size is now too long in the new pair. Outside of these shortcomings, there are some others that make me worry that this pair won't be as reliable as the old: the tread pattern has been downgraded and the tough metal eyelets have been replaced with plastic. Some of the fabric feels to have changed as well. Aesthetics have also changed. Several of the Salomon insignias have been removed, the color of the fabric on the tongue no longer contrasts the color of the green outer boot material, a pointless and ugly loop has been added to the tongue (no one has ever had an issue with this), stitching has been moved from the tongue, and the shoelaces don't look as good.

I have had several pairs of quest boots over the years. My favorite is still the second generation. This particular generation is not as durable. I have had this pair for less than two years. I already have chunks of the soles missing on the bottom. The toe protection is also thinner than previous generations and is delaminating. I included pictures of both issues. You can see the pieces missing on the soles and where I used gorilla glue to glue the toe piece back on. I would show more issues, but I can only add six pictures. The leather is also lower quality than my previous generations. The leather looks very worn from getting wet only a couple of times. The traction is terrible in cold weather. This particular rubber hardens in the cold and provides little to no traction when that happens. I only have about 100 miles of hiking on these boots so far. I rotate between this pair and two other brands of hiking boots. This is the only pair of boots I've ever had these kind of issues with the sole so far. All of my other boots have Vibram outsoles. I do a lot of hiking in the rocky mountains in Colorado and some in Michigan. The only pros I have for this generation are comfort and a nice shank. I like that the bottom of my foot is always comfortable. Unfortunately, because of the problems with the sole, I already have to replace these. I will not buy or recommend another pair of Salomon boots until these issues are fixed

Buy these at your own risk and take all of the reviews on here seriously. I have purchased more than 20 pairs of Salomon shoes for my family and I over the last 15 years and something has happened to their quality in the last 5 years. I purchased these Quest boots to replace a 10 year old pair of Quest boots that I now regret replacing. The old ones were still ok in hindsight compared to these new boots which have completely failed in less than 3 years. The soles are literally splitting in half, the toe caps have peeled off on the corners and even the Gore-tex liner is leaking. I am honestly shocked at how poor quality these are now. Salomon products will no longer be my go to shoe supplier as they are clearly not the same quality as they used to be.
Thank you for your feedback on this footwear. Hearing product experiences allow us to see what our consumers would like to see in our designs and areas where we can improve. Apologies for any inconvenience.
This is my 3rd pair and 3rd generation of the Quest 4 boots that I've owned. The 1st pair, 1st gen blew me away with their quality, durability, comfort and performance. Unfortunately I cannot say the same for the current line. They are not holding up like previous generation's, nor are they as comfortable. The quality, durability and comfort just isn't there. The tounge has already worn through the mesh of the upper creating 2 holes. As well as the toecap is already beginning to separate from the leather. I've only had these boots for 2 months. This should not happen with any boot, much less one at this price point. I purchased 2 pairs when I bought these thinking I'd be good for the next few years. At this rate I'll be lucky to make through a year with both pairs. I expected better Salomon.

As a seasoned trekker, I recently had the opportunity to put the Salomon QUEST 4 GORE-TEX boots to the test on the challenging Baltoro Glacier trek. The combination of rugged terrain, unpredictable weather, and long hours of hiking provided the perfect conditions to evaluate these boots. The QUEST 4 GORE-TEX boots exceeded my expectations in every way. The GORE-TEX membrane proved to be exceptionally waterproof, keeping my feet dry even in the most inclement conditions. The Contagrip outsole provided excellent traction on icy and rocky surfaces, ensuring stability and preventing slips. The boots were surprisingly comfortable, offering adequate support and cushioning even after hours of hiking. In conclusion, I highly recommend the Salomon QUEST 4 GORE-TEX boots to any trekker seeking a reliable and comfortable pair of boots. The combination of waterproofness, durability, and traction make them ideal for challenging mountain environments. While the Salomon website could be improved in certain areas, it remains a valuable resource for purchasing quality outdoor gear.
My wife says I collect boots. And I have to say for Off-road trail use these boots have no equal.
I bought the Quest 4 on recommendation from friends I hike with. The 2 year warranty gave me confidence that the boots would be durable. I use the boots for fell walking and some scrambling. The boots were extremely comfortable straight away and performed very well. I have owned the boots for 4 months now and used them on 10 hikes about 10 miles each time. However on my last hike I noticed water getting into the left boot. On inspection I found a split in the contagrip outsole. This was oy 2 miles into a 10 mile hike so I had to carry on in the damaged boot.

I've had these boots for almost two years. Most people will complain that they haven't lasted "two seasons" but my boots easily have over 500 miles on them. Straight out of the box they were ready to go, required no break in period which I loved because my feet didn't get murdered. My boots have been through 3 Montana trips one of the trips temperatures dropped to below zero and that was the only time I couldn't handle the cold in the boots. For not being insulated, I was amazed. They have also been up and down Mt Whitney, have done hundreds of miles of off trail scouting, hunting, and shooting trips. I would say they've been waterproof, but like any leather boot when water or morning dew start to soak the leather it can dampen your socks a bit if you don't apply any wax on them. Even then, my last 50 miles on them was my Idaho elk hunt. I thought they were too worn and would provide no water protection at that point. The only reason I took them was because my new boots would of destroyed my feet since they were not broken in. Hiking out on my last day I fell off a beaver dam and I went into the water about knee deep. I knew then that the boots were still water proof because for the last two miles of that hike water would not leave my boot. I was too lazy to stop and dump the water out and air my feet out since I was excited to be heading out. I loved how comfortable they were, I love the stability and the grip they provide and I loved the use I was able to get out of them. Like most of the reviews I've read on here, the rubber does begin to separate from the leather very early on which is a bummer, but it did not seem to compromise the boot.
