Poorly made. Check your item before you buy this.
I so wanted to support the plastic recycling effort and hoping this form pad will be great, but it is poorly executed product unfortunately. The density of the form is not consistent and some knobs are really hard where others aren't. Particular to the one I bought, there was a gaping hole in it and some plastic material almost looks like half recycled plastic bag coming out of the form. I hope Nemo will remedy the quality in the future. I returned the item, and planning on buying the normal Z-seat. If you are planning on buying this item, take it out of the package and physically check the form.
Superb even during daily activities!!!
Super comfortable to seat on. Will carry in my backpack 24/7. Plus I do love the way it was made. Thank you NEMO for superb seating mat. Cheers!
MOOP-maker
Oh I wanted to like this! It was a gift from my partner who has the Thermarest equivalent. I like the idea of a recycled product, made from waste scraps from other manufactured products. Some other reviewers noted that it can be uncomfortable. I think it does a great job keeping my backside dry and protected from rough surfaces when sitting. I’m giving it one star because I’m finding it disassembling itself after 6 months of use. Pieces come off as I’m taking it off my pack or after I pick it up from the ground. Leave no trace is a big deal and I’m not interested in using gear that creates MOOP (matter out of place). Nemo missed the mark on this one.
Lightweight and Versatile
This is a luxury item but the kind you can easily justify because of it's compact size, light weight, and versatility. I'll throw it in both a backpacking pack and a day pack. I've used it under my sleeping pad to add a little more padding under my hips, to make a picnic bench cleaner and softer, to sit on in a parking lot while changing shoes, to widen the top of my hammock so it's not closing in on my head, and of course just to sit on when taking a break. I rest my pack against a tree and use it and the Chipper to make a nice recliner in the woods.
Impulse buy that I now can't live without
I'm a pretty novice hiker and recently went down a rabbit hole of Miranda in the Wild videos. She constantly talks about this seat pad and I decided I needed it, too! I bought it and wondered if I would really get any use out of it. I took it on a short hike and it surprisingly, though just barely, fit in my little 10L sling bag, and weighs practically nothing. It was cool and drizzly that day and the pad was great for breaks on cold benches. Comfortable and kept me from getting chilled. But I also found later that it was great to kneel on when unclogging my bathroom drain. I think this will also be great for kneeling on when gardening.
It has so many uses
It’s a foam square. It’s nice. The people who say it’s too rough just need to use it a little more, it gets softer. Nemo has a lifetime warranty. What else do you want?
You can sit
I love this, it does exactly what I needed. Perfect for cold ground, general dirt floors, or any areas in which a little bit of extra comfort would be appreciated. For me i love bringing this on hikes and eating lunch on it and it does the job perfectly. Yes it's recycled material but it has not been an issue for me at all, and if anything I really like the color of it. I think it's pretty lightweight and a good option if you want something like a camp chair but don't want to sacrifice a ton of weight. People complaining about the weight are a little bit extra in my opinion.
Small and useful!
Wanted a sit pad for wet or cold or dirty or rocky conditions but didn’t want something huge. This was perfect.
Get this !!!
Really great , lightweight , fun colors . I am so glad I had this for my own sitting comfort and for my pack !
Convenient seat/table, lots of color variation
I wanted to get a Z-Seat, but they are not available anywhere, so I decided to give this one a try instead. I really like this piece of gear - it's lightweight and easy to carry around in the water bottle pocket of my backpack, and it's very convenient to deploy quickly when I want a place to sit on the trail. I also found additional uses for it that I wasn't expecting - it was a place to sit/kneel when I was setting up my tent, I put it next to my chair as a makeshift "table" when sitting around the campfire, I used it to fan smoke away from my face, and I wrapped my phone and battery pack in it to protect them from puddles and from the rain. The reclaimed materials are both a benefit and a drawback. It's great that Nemo is able to create good pieces of gear from materials that would otherwise go to waste. I did notice a few "sharp" peaks described in another comment, but these seemed to soften up with use. I didn't end up with any holes in mine, fortunately - the construction seems pretty solid, and definitely more substantial than other cheap foam options you can find online. The appearance and the colors are definitely a matter of personal preference, and in looking at a number of these seats in the store, there seems to be a lot of variation in the proportion of colors you'll end up getting. (I spent a while trying to find one with the blend of green, orange, and yellow that I liked.) Ultimately, I like the zany colors, and I even got some comments from other hikers saying that it was quite eye-catching. There's a very small loop with a snap closure on one end. It's not very useful - it doesn't keep the mat closed, and the snap opens fairly easily. I might replace this loop with some elastic so it's more functional. Overall, I am very happy with this foam seat as an alternative to the Z-Seat. I plan to keep it in my hiking pack for its comfort, convenience, and multitude of uses!
